Aυτή θα είναι η τελευταία ανάρτηση πριν τα Χριστούγεννα...και ανεβάζουμε ένα άγνωστο συγκρότημα με το όνομα Mystic Band. Αρχικά κάποιος μπορεί να νομίσει ότι πρόκειται για μουσικούς που παίζουν blues ή progressive rock (όχι πως δεν συμπαθούμε τα είδη), ειδικά κοιτάζοντας το εξώφυλλο του δίσκου με το λογότυπο τους. Πρόκειται πάντως, για να το ξεκαθαρίσουμε, για ένα συγκρότημα από τη γειτονική Ιταλία, το οποίο δεν έχει ηχογραφήσει studio δίσκο ή single, άλλωστε το παρόν ομώνυμο άλμπουμ είναι μια συλλογή από ζωντανές εμφανίσεις τους από το 1987 έως το 1989. Δυστυχώς οι Mystic Band δεν έχουν αφήσει πολλά ίχνη πίσω τους, και είναι πολύ δύσκολο να βρεθούν ολοκληρωμένες και επιβεβαιωμένες πληροφορίες για αυτούς. Μόνο μέσω των ονομάτων των μελών του συγκροτήματος μπορεί να βγεί κάποια άκρη... Πιο συγκεκριμένα, μόνο για τον ντράμερ Alessandro Gimignani βρήκαμε κάτι συγκεκριμένο, έχει δουλέψει με τους Neon και με τους Pankow, όπως και ο παραγωγός του δίσκου Paolo Favati (Neon, Pankow). Μουσικά κινούνται στο χώρο του new wave με αρκετές post punk εξάρσεις ("We Smile to the King", People Under Town", A Story to Change", Baltzi & Rimbaltzi"), επιπλέον με αρκετά ακόμη πειραματικά στοιχεία (+samplers) θυμίζουν ακόμα και πρώιμους Pink Floyd, αλλά και αχνά δείγματα της kraut rock σκηνής ("She's a Mother", "Roses", "Do it"). Όλα αυτά βέβαια σε ένα δίσκο που ανθολογεί διαφορετικές ζωντανές ηχογραφήσεις είναι δυνατόν να σηματοδοτείται και η σταδιακή πορεία του γκρουπ. Γενικά, είναι ένας δίσκος που μπορείς να τον ακούσεις από την αρχή ως το τέλος και η εντύπωση να είναι από μέτρια έως καλή λόγω αυτής της χρονικής διαφορετικότητας, όμως συνολικά ο δίσκος είναι ένα καλό δείγμα της Ιταλικής ανεξάρτητης σκηνής. Αν μη τι άλλο, πρόκειται για ένα σπάνιο δίσκο, από ένα γκρούπ που ίσως λίγοι γνωρίζουν - όμως σίγουρα περισσότεροι θα τους γνωρίζουν μετά από αυτή την ανάρτηση. Ίσως οι Ιταλοί φίλοι μας όπως ο ColdTears να τους γνωρίζει. Just by looking at the logo at the LP front cover, one might consider that they are a blues or progressive rock group (we have nothing against them, ok?). They are from Italy, never released any studio LP or single, the present however is a compilation of various live performances dating from 1987 to 1989. Since Mystic Band has not left any traces from the past into our present, so it's been quite difficult to find fully confirmed information, except for their drummer Alessandro Gimignani who worked in the past with Neon and Pankow - two very significant and important groups of the Italian alternative new wave scene. The same goes for the producer Paolo Favati, he produced works of Neon and Pankow as well. Musically speaking, they are in the new wave genre with lots of post punk edges ("We Smile to the King", People Under Town", A Story to Change", Baltzi & Rimbaltzi"), they also make use of experimental elements, samplers, reminiscent of early Pink Floyd or kraut rock groups from the 70's ("She's a Mother", "Roses", "Do it"). All this may occur within this live compilation LP of various recordings from different timelines of the Mystic Band. Once one listens to the songs, they get different impressions and (we believe) that happens because the group tends to be more specific around 1987, as opposed to being more vague and experimental by 1988-1989. No matter difference of styles, this LP is a good sample of the Italian alternative scene of the 80's. Nevertheless, it is a rare item of a commonly less-known music group, however, we hope that more of our readers will get to know Mystic band after this post. Perhaps our Italian friend ColdTears might have a clue, or if anyone else knows , please give us a comment.
