Les Enfants Terribles: Another Country LP, 1990 [Midnight Music

Να και ένα συγκρότημα από την πόλη Tours της Γαλλίας, το οποίο δεν έχουμε δει να έχει ανέβει σε μπλόγκ. Ονομάζονται Les Enfants Terribles και έχουν βγάλει μόνο ένα επτάϊντσο single και ένα άλμπουμ. Αρχικά το όνομα τους ήταν Acid Brains, όμως αφού υπέγραψαν με την θρυλική Βρετανική δισκογραφική Midnight Music, το άλλαξαν σε Les Enfants Terribles, πιθανόν ως φόρο τιμής στην ομώνυμη ταινία του Φρανσουά Τρυφώ. Ίσως και να το έκαναν επειδή ήθελαν να δηλώσουν την καταγωγή τους όντες σε μια Βρετανική δισκογραφική.
Αν και το μοναδικό τους άλμπουμ "Another Country" δεν είναι ένας ακρογωνιαίος λίθος στην ανεξάρτητη ροκ μουσική σκηνή, εντούτοις καταφέρνει να περιέχει κάποια εξαιρετικά κομμάτια που ξεχωρίζουν με την πρώτη, όπως για παράδειγμα τα "In A Room Like Yours", "Paths Of Glory", "So Far From The East" and "New Beginning". Παρ' όλο που τα υπόλοιπα τραγούδια στέκουν με αξιοπρέπεια με ωραίες κιθάρες και ενορχηστρώσεις, θα μπορούσε κάποιος να κατηγορήσει τους Les Enfants Terribles πως έχουν πολλές επιρροές από τους Echo and the Bunnymen. Όχι πως αυτό είναι απαραίτητα κακό βέβαια.

ENG: Here's a band from Tours, France, which we haven't seen posted elsewhere. They are called Les Enfants Terribles and they have only released a single and an LP. Originally they were called Acid Brains, but when they signed with the legendary British label Midnight Music they changed it to Les Enfants Terribles, obviously as a tribute to Francois Truffaud's movie with the same title. It might also be that they wanted to state that they were actually a French band who had signed with a British label.
Even if their sole 1990 LP "Another Country" isn't a stepping stone of the Alternative Rock and New Wave scene, it boasts some great songs which stand out such as "In A Room Like Yours", "Paths Of Glory", "So Far From The East" and "New Beginning". Although the rest of the songs are decent with great guitar and arrangements, one could argue that the band seem to be heaviy influenced by Echo and the Bunnymen; not necessarily a bad thing after all.

Magic de Spell: Cpt. Blind, 1985 Enigma Records

Κοιτώντας πίσω σε παλιότερα σχόλια δικά μας αλλά και αναγνωστών συνειδητοποιήσαμε πως "ξεχάσαμε" να ανεβάσουμε κάποιο από τα άλμπουμ της πρώτης περιόδου των Magic de Spell. Επειδή πρόκειται για δίσκο τους που ακόμη δεν έχει επανακυκλοφορήσει, η ανάρτηση του είναι ακόμη πιο επιτακτική.
Εάν δεν είναι ήδη φανερό, μιλάμε για το τρίτο κατά σειρά album "Cpt. Blind", κυκλοφορίας 1985 και το οποίο είναι το τελευταίο με αγγλικό στίχο. Η αλλαγή του στίχου σηματοδότησε και τη στροφή τους σε ένα πιο εμπορικούς δίσκους. Οι περισσότεροι από εσάς που μας διαβάζετε θα γνωρίζετε ήδη τον ήχο τους αφού παλιότερα ανεβάσαμε το πρώτο τους LP "A Body In A Snare" που ακολούθησε μετά τη διπλή συλλογή "A Story (the best and the rest)". Μαζί με το "Cpt. Blind" συμπληρώνουμε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της πρότερης δισκογραφίας τους (μένει το "Kiss the Mirror").
Ας πούμε λίγα λόγια για το δίσκο. Δεν διαφέρει πολύ από τα προηγούμενα album. Παρόλ' αυτά υπάρχει μια ενισχυμένη ποπ αίσθηση, ενδεχομένως διότι το συγκρότημα ζητούσε να επικοινωνήσει με μεγαλύτερα ακροαστήρια. Ίσως και πάλι να είχε φτάσει η έμπνευση τους σε τέλμα, πράγμα φυσιολογικό που συμβαίνει σε πολλά συγκροτήματα. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει πως το συγκεκριμένο album έχει έλλειψη από ενδιαφέρουσες συνθέσεις ή οτι δεν θα εντοπίσετε κάποιο από τα αγαπημένα σας τραγούδια εκεί. Εμάς μας αρέσει περισσότερο η δεύτερη πλευρά με τα "My Wall" και "The Fall". Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: It seems that posting an album from the early period of Magic de Spell eluded us at some point. However after glancing back at older comments we feel committed to posting some more of their material for your pleasure, especially when it comes to posting an album which has never been reissued.
If it isn't already obvious enough, we're talking about Magic de Spell's third album entitled "Cpt. Blind". Released in 1985, it was the band's final LP in which they used english lyrics. Their stopping the use of english lyrics marks their quest to even more commercial releases. Most of you will have already been acquainted with their sound due to our posting their first full length LP "A Body In A Snare" following the double LP compilation "A Story (the best and the rest)". If we add "Cpt. Blind" we actually cover a major part of their early release roster (except for "Kiss the Mirror").
As for the album itself, it is not much different from its predecessors. Nevertheless, "Cpt. Blind" has a largely 'poppish'  feel to it, perhaps due to the band's desire to reach larger audiences or just being in a dead end phase in terms of inspiration. However, that doesn't mean that the LP lacks great songs or that you won't place some of your favourite songs there. Our most favourite ones happen to be on the second side of the album, among them "My Wall" or "The Fall". Enjoy listening to it.

Simonics: Under A Glass Bell 12'' ep Arcadia 1984 & In This Heat/Insect Sun 12'' edition Thin Sliced Records 1985

Άλλη μία καθυστερημένη ανάρτηση που είναι ταυτόχρονα και αποχαιρετισμός στο 2018. Ανεβάζουμε τους Simonics ένα σχήμα από Μεγ. Βρετανία που ανακαλύψαμε τυχαία. Αν και είναι άγνωστοι και οι πληροφορίες για αυτούς λιγοστές, έχουν κυκλοφορήσει ωραία και ενδιαφέρουσα μουσική. Το μουσικό τους ύφος είναι δύσκολο να το περιγράψει κανείς με λόγια, αλλά θα λέγαμε πως είναι new wave με μια δόση πειραματισμού (στο discogs τους έχει και την ταμπέλα gothic rock).
Οι περισσότερες πληροφορίες για τους Simonics βρέθηκαν μετά από πολύ ψάξιμο στην προσωπική ιστοσελίδα της μουσικού Virginia Astley στο facebook. Εν συντομία, η Virginia Astley συμμετείχε στην δημιουργία του πρώτου 12'' με τίτλο "Under A Glass Bell" το 1984. Μας λέει επίσης πως το συγκρότημα αποτελούνταν από δύο μέλη με το όνομα Simon (Simon Walker kai Simon Smith) και τρία μέλη με το όνομα Nick (Nick Page, Nick Smith και Nick Pretzel), και έτσι ονομάστηκαν Simonics.
Οι μουσικοί που απαρτίζαν τους Simonics ήταν μαζί στο παρελθόν σε μια κολεκτίβα 13 μουσικών υπό το όνομα Enemies of the Earth, όπου συμμετείχε και η Astley.
Τώρα όσον αφορά το ουσιαστικό μέρος της ανάρτησης μας, τη μουσική. Ανεβάζουμε το πρώτο τους 7ιντσο "In This Heat/Insect Sun" (αρχικής κυκλοφορίας 1982) στην 12ιντση έκδοση του 1985 με επιπλέον δύο κομμάτια, τα "Medium Sweet Lizard" και "Suffocate Waters" που αποτελούσαν το soundtrack της ταινίας "Kamil". Επίσης θα βρείτε και το προαναφερόμενο "Under A Glass Bell" προφανώς εμπνευσμένο από το ομώνυμο βιβλίο της Αναΐς Νιν, όπου εκτός από το ομώνυμο κομμάτι, υπάρχουν και τα "Fear Is The Key" και "Kiss Your Hands And Weep". Έχουμε στριμώξει και τις δύο αυτές κυκλοφορίες σε ένα αρχείο για να σας είναι πιο βολικό στο κατέβασμα.

ENG:Here's another delayed post serving as a farewell to 2018. We're posting some stuff from a UK band called Simonics whose music we came across by accident, since they are not a renowned band and this accounts for not being able to find substantial info on them. Despite their being rather unknown, they have produced some interesting music. It is also hard to describe their music style, as it seems that they have been experimenting, but roughly we'd describe them as new wave (discogs has them under 'Goth Rock' as well).
Any info we've got on Simonics comes from Virginia Astley's facebook page where she writes a few things about the band. To cut the long story short, Astley was involved in the making of the band's first 12'' single "Under A Glass Bell" in 1984.
Anyway, the band comprised of two Simons (Simon Walker and Simon Smith) and three Nicks (Nick Page, Nick Smith and Nick Pretzel) hence the name Simonics. The band was formed from the ashes of an earlier 13 piece collective called Enemies of the Earth in which Astley was also involved.
Let's talk about the most significant part of this post, which is the music. We've uploaded for you Simonics' first 7'' single "In This Heat/Insect Sun" initially released in 1983, but here in the form of a 12'' with the addition of two more songs "Medium Sweet Lizard", "Suffocate Waters" which served as soundtrack to the film "Kamil" and re-released in 1985. We have also included their first 12'' single entitled "Under A Glass Bell" obviously inspired by Anaïs Nin's 1944 book. The 12'' single also includes the songs "Fear Is The Key" and "Kiss Your Hands And Weep". For convenience purposes we've crammed these two releases in one file, so click on either of the two titles above.

Less Words/More Music Issue #14

Άθελά μας τόσο καιρό φτιάχναμε φανταστικές αναρτήσεις στο μυαλό μας, ώσπου έγινε πραγματικότητα η δέκατη τέταρτη έκδοση του "Less Words/More Music" με τρείς εξαιρετικές συλλογές που βρέθηκαν στο δρόμο μας πρόσφατα.
ENG: Αll this time we've been inadvertently planning imaginary posts through introspective routes. The fourteenth issue of "Less Words, More Music" is a product of our imaginary posts, only this time it's real. Presented in the fourteenth issue are three outstanding compilations that we've recently come across.

1. Various/5 Miles to Midnight mLP [Pax Records-1981]
Αυτή τη συλλογή την είχαμε δεί μόνο στο μπλογκ "A Viable Commercial" αλλά αυτό ήταν πολύ καιρό πριν. Στο οπισθόφυλλο αναφέρει πως περιέχονται οι The Doormen και I Scream Brothers που έχουν από δύο συμμετοχές και οι Mortuary In Wax με μία. Επίσης αναφέρεται πως υπήρχε και τέταρτη συμμετοχή από τους I Suggested Darkness αλλά το κομμάτι τους δεν μπήκε τελικά στο δίσκο λόγω τεχνικών δυσκολιών. Πάντως τα τρία συγκροτήματα που θα ακούσετε (The Doormen, I Scream Brothers και Mortuary In Wax) έρχονται από το Sheffield και πειραματίζονται με την post punk. Δεν μπορεί να είναι σύμπτωση πως στα δύο κομμάτια των I Scream Brothers έχουν κάνει την παραγωγή οι Cabaret Voltaire. Απολαύστε λοιπόν μουσική που ακόμα ακούγεται φρέσκια.
ENG: This is a compilation that we've only seen posted on the "A Viable Commercial" blog, but that was a long time ago. However, there's some info on the mini album cover writing that it consists of five songs; The Doormen and I Scream Brothers have two songs each, whereas Mortuary in Wax has only one. There's also another band mentioned, called I Suggested Darkness but they didn't make it to the pressing of the compilation due to technical setbacks. The music comes from Sheffield and is experimental post punk and it can't be a coincidence that the two songs by I Scream Brothers were produced by Cabaret Voltaire. Enjoy some music that still sounds fresh.

2. Various/The Wonderful World of Glass (volume one) LP [Glass Records-1981] 

Αυτή είναι πασίγνωστη συλλογή και εδώ είναι ο πρώτος τόμος, με συγκροτήματα από τον κατάλογο της θρυλικής Glass Records. Έχει post punk, new wave, minimal synth, καθώς και αθάνατα πειραματικά σχήματα. Μην την προσπεράσετε επειδή πρόκειται για καλή ψηφιοποίηση από βινύλιο που έχει αρκετή φθορά.
ENG: This is the first volume of a well-known and classic compilation and it contains the early roster of the legendary Glass Records. There is post punk music, there's new wave, there's minimal synth as well as a few undying experimental acts. Don't miss out, since it is a nice rip despite originating from relatively worn media.

3. Various/Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks mLP [Abstract Sounds-1985]
Η συλλογή "Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks" μπορεί να μοιάζει λιγότερο σημαντική σε σχέση με τις προηγούμενες, αλλά στην πραγματικότητα είναι αρκετά ενδιαφέρουσα καθώς αποτελείται από ευρύ φάσμα μουσικής της δεκαετίας ΄80: post punk, anarcho punk, new wave, ακόμη και απαγγελία. Αν και ο δίσκος δεν κρατάει πάνω από 30 λεπτά, δεν είναι από τις συλλογές που ξεχνά κανείς.
ENG: Compared to the previously mentioned 80's releases, "Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks" might seem less essential, but indeed it's an appealing one as it comprises bands from a wide range 80's rock; post punk, anarcho punk, new wave, even spoken word. Even though the whole album doesn't really last more than 30 minutes, you won't forget it until after you've listened to it.

Tactics: Blue And White Future Whale LP, 1986 Red Flame

Μετά απο πολύμηνη απραξία χωρίς αναρτήσεις επιστρέψαμε για να σας δώσουμε περισσότερη καλή μουσική. Η πρώτη "καθυστερημένη" ανάρτηση είναι το τρίτο studio album των Tactics με τίτλο "Blue And White Future Whale" από το 1986, που τους τελευταίους μήνες "στοιχειώνει" τα ακουστικά και τα ηχεία μας. Είχαμε παλιότερα ανεβάσει το κύκνειο άλμπουμ "The Great Gusto", έτσι φάνηκε επιτακτικό να προχωρήσουμε στην ανάρτηση και άλλων δίσκων από τους Tactics και το "Blue And White Future Whale" μας φάνηκε ως το πιο κατάλληλο αφού είναι και ένα από τα αγαπημένα μας.
Είναι γεγονός πως κάθε κυκλοφορία των Tactics διαφέρει σημαντικά από τις άλλες και το "Blue And White..." δεν αποτελεί εξαίρεση. Περιέχει ένα εκπληκτικό σύνολο τραγουδιών στο χαρακτηριστικό ύφος με τους δυναμικούς κοφτούς ρυθμούς και κάποια από αυτά έχουν και μια ψυχεδελική χροιά. Προσέξτε ιδιαίτερα τα "Birthday Girl", το ομώνυμο "Blue And White Future Whale", "Body In the Field" και "Know It All", αλλά και τα πιο ήπια τραγούδια όπως "Should Be, Will Be", "Hard Hat Nine Iron" και "Moonfrog".
Δεν υπερβάλλουμε λέγοντας πως γράφοντας αυτή την ανάρτηση είχαμε την εντύπωση πως κατά κάποιο τρόπο γράφαμε για το"My Houdini". Στην πραγματικότητα ανυπομονούμε να ανεβάσουμε και το "My Houdini" που αποτελεί και την πρώτη μεγάλη κυκλοφορία τους. Σύντομα θα συμβεί και αυτό, προς το παρόν όμως "απορροφήστε" το "Blue And White Future Whale" και κάντε το ένα από τα αγαπημένα σας.

ENG: After several months of forever delayed posts, here we are! We're back to give you more good music. First post is Tactic's third studio album "Blue And White Future Whale" from 1986 that's been haunting our speakers and earphones during the past few months. Having posted their last LP "The Great Gusto" sometime ago, it seems imperative to us that we move on with posting more of the Tactics' works and "Blue and Future Whale" seemed the most appropriate as it is also one of our favourites.
Fact is that each Tactics release is distinctively different from the others and "Blue And White Future Whale" is no exception to this rule. There's a great set of songs and they are full with the energy and the staccato rhythms that are overall characteristic in the band's signature sound. Most of the songs are in the Tactics familiar style but with some added psychedelic influences too. Pay close attention to "Birthday Girl", the homonymous "Blue And White Future Whale", "Body In the Field", "Know It All" or even more mellow ones such as "Should Be, Will Be", "Hard Hat Nine Iron" and "Moonfrog".
We wouldn't exaggerate if we said that writing these lines, it felt as if everytime we're reviewing a Tactics album, we actually keep reviewing "My Houdini" between the lines. We look forward to posting their principal album and we hope it will be soon. At present, enjoy taking in "Blue And White Future Whale" and make it one of your favourites.

Poppi UK: Makeshift Home Music LP, 1989 Schemer Records

Η σημερινή ανάρτηση αφορά το LP "Makeshift Home Music", δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Poppi UK, που κυκλοφόρησε από την δισκογραφική Schemer το 1989 και απ' όσο γνωρίζουμε δεν έχει ανέβει σε blog ποτέ πριν. Προς υπενθύμισή σας, οι Poppi UK ήταν ένα συγκρότημα από την πόλη Nijmegen της Ολλανδίας και παλιότερα το 2010 είχαμε κάνει ανάρτηση για τον εξαιρετικό πρώτο δίσκο τους, το "Walk On Water".
Για αρχή, το LP "Makeshift Home Music" δεν είναι τόσο καλό όσο το "Walk On Water", όμως είναι ένας αξιοπρόσεκτος δίσκος. Είναι στην πραγματικότητα πιο ροκ στο ύφος του και προσανατολισμένος σε ευρύτερο κοινό, κάτι που ενώ δεν αποτελεί ζήτημα για εμάς, μάς κάνει όμως να πιστεύουμε ότι είναι κατώτερο του "Walk On Water". Αυτό όμως που μετράει στ' αλήθεια είναι ότι ακούγοντας το "Makeshift Home Music" συνειδητοποεί κανείς πως έχει κάποια εντυπωσιακά κομμάτια όπως το "Bonzai" που ξεκινάει το δίσκο, αλλά και τα "Human Meat", "GMA 4", και "Lion Eats Tamer". Αφού ακούσετε το έργο στο σύνολό του ίσως ανακαλύψετε και άλλα αγαπημένα κομμάτια. Επίσης θα ανακαλύψετε ότι δεν έχουν χάσει την ενεργητικότητα που τους έκανε ξεχωριστούς.
Ελπίζουμε πως θα απολαύσετε τη μουσική τους όσο και εμείς.

ENG: Today we're posting Poppi UK's second full-length album "Makeshift Home Music" released on Schemer Records in 1989 and as far as we know it's never been posted before. If you can remember, Poppi UK were a Dutch post punk band from Nijmegen and we posted their exquisite LP "Walk On Water" back in 2010.
To begin with, "Makeshift Home Music" isn't as great as "Walk On Water", but it is a notable album nonetheless. It happens to be much rockier and built to reach larger audiences, which is ok with us, but they are a couple reasons why we believe it to be a lesser album compared to "Walk On Water". What is important though, is that when listening to "M.H.M." you might realise that there are indeed a few impressive and inspired songs, as is the opening song "Bonzai", or "Human Meat", "GMA 4", and "Lion Eats Tamer". Also, you might choose more favourites after listening to it, and you might also find out that Poppi UK haven't lost much of their energy which made them stand out.
We hope you enjoy listening to their music once again as much as we do.

Tactics: The Great Gusto LP, 1990 Regular Records

Ξορκίζουμε το 2016 μέσω του αισιόδοξου και ταυτόχρονα κυνικού τρόπου των Αυστραλιανών Tactics.
Σχεδόν μια δεκαετία μετά από τις πρωτοποριακές και παγερές συγχορδίες του "My Houdini" αλλά και στο μεταξύ την κυκλοφορία μερικών άλμπουμ, οι Tactics έκλεισαν τον κύκλο τους με το άλμπουμ "The Great Gusto". Αναπόφευκτα, αυτό το τελευταίο άλμπουμ δεν έμοιαζε καθόλου σαν το διθυραμβικό ξεκίνημα του "My Houdini". Ίσως δεν είναι υπερβολή εδώ να σημειώσουμε πως το "The Great Gusto" δεν είναι εύκολο να το εντοπίσει κανείς για να το ακούσει έστω μέσω κάποιου download. Ο πιο προφανής λόγος που συμβαίνει αυτό είναι βέβαια ότι επισκιάστηκε από όλα τα προηγούμενα άλμπουμ των Tactics, μηδενός εξαιρουμένου, και για αυτό το λόγο και δεν είναι γνωστό. Μια άλλη αιτία είναι ίσως η φήμη πως ο αρχηγός του σχήματος David Studdert έχει "αποκηρύξει" την ύπαρξη του άλμπουμ.
Παρά το γεγονός ότι η εν λόγω κυκλοφορία είναι πράγματι από μουσικής άποψης κάπως συμβατική, κοινότυπη ή και ήπια σε σχέση με τους παλιότερους δίσκους τους, παραμένει ένα χαρακτηριστικό άλμπουμ των Tactics πιστό στη φλέβα των προηγούμενων, αν και σχετικά αδύναμο άλμπουμ. Τα τραγούδια περιέχουν στοιχεία από σχεδόν κάθε άλλο τραγούδι που έχουν γράψει ο David Studdert και η παρέα του, οπότε το αποτέλεσμα δεν ξενίζει. Ιδιαίτερα όσοι από εσάς είστε ήδη εξοικειωμένοι με τη μουσική τους θα συμφωνήσετε στα παραπάνω. Ελπίζουμε να απολαύσετε αυτήν την ξεχασμένη και σκόπιμα παραγκωνισμένη δουλειά των καταπληκτικών Tactics, η ανάρτηση της οποίας αποτελεί και την τελευταία για το 2016.

ENG: We exorcise the year 2016 by means of the optimistic yet cynical way of the Australian band Tactics.
Almost a decade and a few albums after the groundbreaking chilling chords of "My Houdini", the Tactics released their final work entitled "The Great Gusto". Inevitably, that final album was nothing like the long-praised and critically acclaimed first toil. It can't be an exaggeration to note here that "The Great Gusto" is an album hard to listen to or get to through download of any sort. The most apparent reason for that is, of course, that all the previous great Tactics LPs from "My Houdini" to "Blue And White Future Whale" cast a long shadow upon "Gusto". Another reason might be a rumour that David Studdert has renounced this LP.
Now, despite the fact that "The Great Gusto" is kind of mainstream or mellow or watered down as many people would propose, it still remains a Tactics album, yet not as strong as the previous ones. The songs contain elements of almost every other song having been written by Studdert and his band. Those of you who are familiarized with the style of this amazing band definitely will agree on that. Also, we hope you enjoy this forgotten and deliberately sidelined work that also serves as the last post of Ten Thousand Eyes for 2016.
We wish you a happier and, in any aspect, a better 2017.

Blue China: Spiritual Beauty LP, 1983 Electric Unicorn

Σχεδόν ένα χρόνο πριν αναρτήσαμε τη 12ιντση συλλογή "Tomorrow Never Knows" των Blue China. Μέχρι αυτή τη στιγμή δεν έχουμε βρει καινούργιες πληροφορίες για το σχήμα αυτό, οπότε ισχύει ό,τι γράψαμε προηγουμένως, σε περίπτωση που θα θέλατε να φρεσκάρετε τη μνήμη σας. Στη σημερινή ανάρτηση έχουμε το μοναδικό LP των Blue China με τον τίτλο "Spiritual Beauty" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1983 και αυτό από την Electric Unicorn.
Κατ' αρχήν το ολοκληρωμένο άλμπουμ "Spiritual Beauty" σε σύγκριση με το 12ιντσο "Tomorrow Never Knows" είναι φυσικά πιο πλήρες και αποδίδει καλύτερα τις δυνατότητες του ξεχωριστού αυτού Ελβετικού σχήματος. Τα οκτώ κομμάτια του δίσκου είναι αψεγάδιαστα, ατμοσφαιρικά και αναμφισβήτητα γεμάτα πρωτοτυπία καθώς δονούνται στο οικείο mid-tempo ύφος με λίγες και περιστασιακές εξάρσεις. Κάποια από αυτά είναι διανθισμένα με εξωτικές μελωδίες που τείνουν να είναι σχεδόν σε ψυχεδελικό στυλ, εάν προσέξετε ιδιαίτερα τα "We Talk" και "Dwarf" και ακόμα πιο προφανείς στο "Calls". Επίσης, ορισμένα κομμάτια είναι ορχηστρικά, όμως αυτό δεν αφαιρεί τίποτα από το έξοχο αποτέλεσμα.
Εάν δώσετε επιπλέον προσοχή στην δομή και άλλων τραγουδιών, πιο συγκεκριμένα τo "Solitude", το "Italian Kill Birds", ή το "Uncle Fear" θα συνειδητοποιήσετε ότι οι Blue China είχαν πολλές δυνατότητες αλλά για τους όποιους δικούς τους λόγους δεν επέκτειναν την σύντομη δισκογραφία τους. Απολαύστε το "Spiritual Beauty" καθώς αποτελεί εξαιρετική προσπάθεια.

ENG: Almost a year ago we posted Blue China's "Tomorrow Never Knows" 12" compilation. Up until the present time we haven't unearthed any further info on the band, so you can go ahead and read the previous post on Blue China to refresh your memory. Anyway, today we've got a post about their sole LP entitled "Spiritual Beauty", released in 1983 through the Electric Unicorn label.
First of all, compared to the 12inch "Tomorrow Never Knows" compilation, the "Spiritual Beauty" album is fuller and gives the listener a better perspective of what this unique Swiss band were capable of. The eight songs consisting the album are flawless, atmospheric and undoubtedly original. They pulsate in the familiar mid-tempo style of the band with the exception of few minor peaks here and there. Some of them are interspersed with exotic tunes in a kind of psychedelic manner, if you notice "We Talk" and "Dwarf", even more apparent in "Calls". Some of the songs are instrumentals, but that does not detract from being the same as excellent.
Should you pay extra attention to the structure of other songs, especially "Solitude", "Italian Kill Birds", or "Uncle Fear", you might realise that Blue China would have had great potential, but they never expanded on their short discography apparently for their own reasons. Enjoy "Spiritual Beauty" as it is an outstanding effort.

Din: Great Tradition mLP 1983, High Velocity

Η καθυστερημένη αυτή ανάρτηση αναφέρεται σε ένα Αμερικάνικο συγκρότημα που ονομάζεται Din με καταγωγή από την περιοχή Orange County της California. Κατά τη δεκαετία του 80 έβγαλαν δύο δίσκους από τους οποίους εμείς σήμερα αναρτούμε τον πρώτο με τον τίτλο "Great Tradition", που είναι στην πραγματικότητα mini LP. Θα ήταν χρήσιμο να δείτε και αυτή τη σελίδα με αρκετές πληροφορίες για την ιστορία των Din, όπου και περιγράφονται ως ένα σχήμα που έπαιζε ska-punk. Το συγκρότημα διέλυσε σχεδόν μετά την κυκλοφορία του δεύτερου (και περιπετειώδους) δίσκου, όμως μόλις πριν λίγα χρόνια αποφάσισαν να επανασυνδεθούν και να δώσουν νέα πνοή με την κυκλοφορία καινούργιου υλικού.
Η αλήθεια είναι πως στο πρώτο άκουσμα του  "Great Tradition" μας φάνηκε αρκετά new wave, αλλά με το δεύτερο άκουσμα βρήκαμε και κάποιες post punk αποχρώσεις. Προφανώς ο ήχος των πνευστών (σαξόφωνο) δίνει αυτή την ska-punk χροιά. Όπως και νά'χει αυτό το mini LP περιέχει αρκετά αξιόλογα κομμάτια όπως το ομότιτλο "Great Tradition" ή και το "Man & Woman". Ελπίζουμε πως θα το αξιολογήσετε με τα δικά σας κριτήρια. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: This delayed post deals with a U.S. band called Din from Orange County, California. Back in the 80's they released two albums, the first of which we're posting today entitled "Great Tradition", which is a mini LP actually. You may want to check thegoldminemag webpage that features an detailed article on the band's story and describes them as a "ska-punk rock" band. Even though they had disbanded in the 80's, only a few years ago they decided to regroup and release new material.
To be honest when listening to the "Great Tradition" mLP, it sounded more new-wavish, but upon second listening, there was  a more post punk feel. Apparently, the brass sounds (saxophone) adds the ska feel throughout the record. Anyway, the mini LP contains a few notable songs such as the same titled "Great Tradition" or "Man & Woman". We hope you like it and enjoy listening to it.

Schwefel: Hot In Hong Kong LP 1988, Amigo Records

Οι Schwefel ήταν μια μπάντα που είχε τη βάση της στην Γερμανία. Παλιότερα κάναμε μια ανάρτηση για αυτούς όταν ανεβάσαμε το πρώτο τους mini LP, το "Schizophrenic Party" κυκλοφορίας 1986. Το σχήμα ήταν δημιουργία του μουσικού Norbert Schwefel (ο οποίος σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες που βρήκαμε στο ίντερνετ απεβίωσε το 2015). Σε αυτά τα πρώτα τους άλμπουμ, οι Schwefel εστίασαν κυρίως στον new wave ήχο με πλήθος επιρροές από kraut rock, κοντολογίς αυτό που λέγεται neu deutche welle.
Στην παρούσα ανάρτηση έχουμε την πρώτη τους μεγάλη κυκλοφορία με τίτλο "Hot In Hong Kong" κυκλοφορίας 1988. Έχουμε την πεποίθηση πως το συγκρότημα πήγε τη μουσική του ένα βήμα πιο πέρα, ίσως σε πιο εμπορικά μονοπάτια. Όμως, το "Hot In Hong Kong" πρόκειται για ένα δίσκο που αξίζει να ακούσετε και να προσέξετε. Σε πολλά μοιάζει στο "Schizophrenic Party" που προηγήθηκε, ωστόσο είναι εμπλουτισμένο με ευρύτερες επιρροές. Επιπλέον, περιέχει λιγότερους πειραματισμούς, άρα και λιγότερες εκπλήξεις. Όμως, είναι ένα αρκετά απολαυστικό άκουσμα καθώς είναι πιο rock, ή μάλλον πιο punk rock. Ελπίζουμε πως θα σας αρέσει.

ENG: Schwefel were a Germany-based band for whom we made a post back in 2010 about their first mini LP "Schizophrenic Party", released in 1986. Schwefel was the creation of Norbert Schwefel (who according to info we found online passed away in 2015). The band's musical focus on these early releases was mainly new wave given with a kraut rock twist (neu deutche welle).
Presently, we've got their first regular LP album entitled "Hot In Hong Kong", released in 1988. We believe the band took a step further into more commercial realms, nevertheless, "Hot In Hong Kong" is an album worth listening to and noticing, too. In many aspects it is similar to the "Schizophrenic Party" mini LP, but "Hot In Hong Kong" is also enriched with even more diverse influences. What's more, "Hot In Hong Kong" is less surprising in terms of experimentation, but that's alright, because it is enjoyable with rockier and punkier songs. We hope you like it.

Drowning Pool: Aphonia LP 1989, Fundamental Recordings/Nate Starkman & Son

Με αυτή την ανάρτηση, δεν θα υπάρχει καμία αμφιβολία πως οι Drowning Pool από το Λος Άντζελες των Η.Π.Α. είναι ένα συγκρότημα που εκτιμάμε πάρα πολύ. Σύμφωνα με την ημερομηνία κυκλοφορίας του, το  LP "Aphonia" πρέπει να είναι η τελευταία τους κυκλοφορία. Επιπλέον, έχει την ιδιαιτερότητα να περιέχει αποκλειστικά ορχηστρικά κομμάτια (aphonia=αφωνία σημαίνει έλλειψη φωνής/φωνητικών). Πράγματι, έτσι είναι φτιαγμένος αυτός ο δίσκος, εκτός από το ότι οι μοναδικές φωνές που ακούγονται είναι προηχογραφημένες και έχουν μιξαριστεί στα τραγούδια.
Άσχετα από αυτό, η μουσική παραμένει εξαιρετική, ονειρική και απόκοσμη όπως συνήθως. Κάθε κομμάτι αποκαλύπτει μια ατμοσφαιρική πτυχή που είναι αδύνατο να τη συναντήσεις αλλού. Εδώ βρίσκεται και το "Black Baghdad", ένα από τα πιο επιβλητικά τους, που ήταν και στη συλλογή "Fundamental Hymnal".
Ευχόμαστε καλή ακρόαση στο πλέον αντισυμβατικό "Aphonia". Ευελπιστούμε πως αυτή δεν θα είναι και η τελευταία μας ανάρτηση αναφορικά με τους Drowning Pool, αλλά πως θα ακολουθήσει και η διπλή συλλογή "Satori" εν ευθέτω χρόνω.

ENG: Upon posting this, there'll be no doubt left that Drowning Pool from Los Angeles, U.S.A. are a band that we highly appreciate. According to the date of release, the "Aphonia" LP must be their final release. What's more, the title suggests that it is an album of instrumental songs (aphonia is greek for the absence of voice). Indeed that is the case as there aren't any vocals except for pre-recorded voice samples mixed within the songs.
Other than that, the music remains as extraordinary, dreamy and otherworldly as always. Each song reveals an atmospheric aspect that is almost unparalleled to match. Included is "Black Baghdad", one of their finest and most imposing songs, which was also in the "Fundamental Hymnal" compilation.
Have a good listening to the unconventional "Aphonia" LP. Hopefully, this isn't going to be our last post on Drowning Pool as we still have the double compilation "Satori" to offer in due time.

1. Coprus Delicti: The Gooze 7'' [T.O.N. Records-1985]
Σύμφωνα με το μπλόγκ phoenix hairpins, οι Corpus Delicti είναι ένα αμερικανικό post punk σχήμα με καταγωγή μάλλον από την Δυτική Ακτή και ίσως πιο συγκεκριμένα από το Hollywood. Το επτάϊντσο single "The Gooze" είναι στην πραγματικότητα μια διαφημιστική κυκλοφορία για το επόμενο άλμπουμ τους που τελικά δεν κυκλοφόρησε. Πριν από το "The Gooze" είχαν βγάλει το e.p. "The Joy Of Living" (το οποίο θα βρείτε στο μπλόγκ phoenix hairpins). Όπως και νά'χει, η μουσική των Corpus Delicti είναι καθαρόαιμη post punk και ελπίζουμε πως και τα δύο κομμάτια θα εκτιμηθούν δεόντως.
ENG: According to phoenix hairpins blog, Corpus Delicti were a U.S. post punk band, probably originating from the West Coast, specifically the Hollywood area. "The Gooze" 7'' is actually a promo release from a forthcoming LP which was never released. Prior to "The Gooze" they released an e.p. entitled "The Joy Of Living" available at phoenix hairpins blog No matter what, their sound is straightforward post punk and we hope that both songs will be greatly appreciated. 2. Cream 8 - The Crimson Dance 7'' e.p. [Resurrec.-1993]
Οι Cream 8 είναι ένα Γερμανικό goth rock σχήμα από την δεκαετία του 1990 και το ύφος τους είναι περίπου κοντά σε αυτό των Sisters Of Mercy της μετά-Wayne Hussey εποχής. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από την wikipedia, οι Cream 8 εμπνεύστηκαν το όνομά τους από τη φανταστική νουβέλα "The Five Gates Of Hell" του Rupert Thomson, που εκδόθηκε το 1992. Στο βιβλίο περιγράφεται μια νεκροφόρα η οποία είχε πάνω της γραμμένη τη λέξη "Cream 8". Για την ιστορία, το συγκρότημα ξεκίνησε σαν προσωπικό project του Boris Brosowski αλλά μέχρι το 1997 είχαν πλέον γίνει κανονικό σχήμα. Ο ήχος τους βασίζεται στην κιθάρα και το synth με τα επιβλητικά φωνητικά του Brosowski να προσθέτουν στο θετικό αποτέλεσμα. Το επτάϊντσο e.p. "The Crimson Dance" είναι η πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία και αποτελείται από τέσσερα όμορφα gothic rock κομμάτια στο ύφος που προαναφέραμε. Τέλος, νομίζουμε πως ίσως οι Cream8 είναι ακόμη ενεργοί εν έτει 2016. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Cream 8 are a 1990's German goth rock band in the vein of The Sisters Of Mercy post Wayne Hussey era. According to wikipedia, the band inspired its name by Rupert Thomson's fiction novel "The Five Gates Of Hell" published in 1992. More specifically there was a hearse with the name Cream 8 described in the book. Cream 8 started as a personal project of Boris Brosowski and by 1997 they had become a full band. Their sound is mostly guitar and synth driven with Brosowski's imposing vocals to add effect and style. "The Crimson Dance" e.p. is their first release and comprises four beautiful gothic rock songs. We believe that you will appreciate their music. Last but not least, it is possible the band is still active in 2016. Enjoy!

3. Saturnalia: Inside The Devil's Circle 7'' and  Girl On The 8th Floor 7'' [Burning Worlds Records-1982]
Αν και δεν έχουμε βρεί απολύτως καμία πληροφορία για τους Saturnalia, μάς είναι προφανές πως πρόκειται για σχήμα της new wave/post punk/goth από τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Με τη βοήθεια των synth και των φωνητικών έχουν αποκτήσει χαρακτηριστικά σκοτεινό ήχο και ενώ η μουσική τους δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα πρωτοποριακή, το συγκρότημα φαίνεται να προσπαθεί να ξεχωρίσει. Συνεπώς, τα τραγούδια που περιέχονται στα δύο επτάϊντσα (που αποτελούν το σύνολο της δισκογραφίας τους) είναι απολαυστικά στο έπακρο. Ο φίλος του μπλόγκ "ForeignAffairs" έκανε την ψηφιοποίηση και μάς παρείχε τις φωτογραφίες των εξωφύλλων και για αυτό τον ευχαριστούμε ολόψυχα. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Apparently, Saturnalia were a new wave/post punk/goth band from the U.K. We haven't been able to locate any info about them online. They have a distinct dark sound aided by heavy synths and appropriate vocals. While their music isn't groundbreaking or innovating, they seem to have made a great effort to distinct themselves. Consequently, the songs comprising the two 7'' releases (their full discography) are quite enjoyable. "ForeignAffairs" ripped the two 7inches and took the photos, so we wholeheartedly thank him for sending us the data for posting. Enjoy!

Ο Phillip Boa είναι ένας Γερμανός πολυπράγμων μουσικός με ευρεία δραστηριότητα. Ίδρυσε το alternative rock/new wave/avantgarde σχήμα Phillip Boa & The Voodoo Club το 1985 και από τότε κυκλοφόρησε αρκετούς δίσκους.

Το 1989 η ελληνική ανεξάρτητη δισκογραφική Di Di Music έβγαλε μια συλλογή με τίτλο "Thirty Years Of Blank Expression" που περιέχει σκόρπια κομμάτια από τα άλμπουμ "Philister" (1985) και "Aristocracie" (1986). Στη συλλογή περιέχεται και ένα κομμάτι-συνεργασία ("Spike Milligans Tape Recorder") με τους Membranes από το 12'' miniLP "Spike Milligans Tape Recorder".
Η μουσική των Phillip Boa & The Voodoo Club κυμαίνεται από πιασάρικη, ατμοσφαιρική, μέχρι και rock ή punk rock. Είναι δηλαδή γεμάτη με αντιθέσεις. Αυτό δείχνει μια δυναμική πειραματισμού που είναι έκδηλη σχεδόν σε όλα τα κομμάτια της συλλογής. Το "Thirty Years Of Blank Expression" μπορεί να είναι όλα τα παραπάνω, δηλαδή ένα άλμπουμ που συνδυάζει την ποικιλία, την τελειότητα και την ιδιοτροπία. Οπότε η αξιολόγηση εξαρτάται από τον ακροατή. ENG: Phillip Boa is a German musician of varied skill and activity. He founded the alternative rock/new wave/avantgarde band Phillip Boa & The Voodoo Club in 1985 and released a number of records ever since.
In 1989, the Greek label Di Di Music issued a compilation entitled "Thirty Years Of Blank Expression" that contained songs taken from the albums "Philister" and "Aristocracie" released in 1985 and 1986 respectively. The compilation also contains a collaboration song ("Spike Milligans Tape Recorder") with the Membranes from their 12'' miniLP "Spike Milligans Tape Recorder".
Phillip Boa & The Voodoo Club's music can be catchy, atmospheric and rocky too. In other words, it is full of contrasts. This manifests from lots of experimental potential, apparent in most of the songs here. "Thirty Years Of Blank Expression" may be all the above; an album of diversity,  excellence and oddity. Therefore, it appeals to your senses to appreciate the songs. Enjoy!

VA: Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven LP 1986, Music Box

Η συλλογή που ανεβάζουμε σήμερα φέρει τον πνευματώδη τίτλο "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven" και αποτελεί τη μουσική επένδυση της ομώνυμης ταινίας που σκηνοθέτησε ο Patrick De Geetere το 1986.
Το άλμπουμ είναι μια εξαιρετική συλλογή τραγουδιών τόσο πολύ διαφορετικών μεταξύ τους αλλά και τόσο όμοιων σε ό,τι αφορά την κοινή άποψη, την προσπάθεια και το αποτέλεσμα. Μέλη των Tuxedomoon και των Minimal Compact συνεργάστηκαν με άλλους μουσικούς όπως η Niki Mono και ο Bruce Geduldig (The Weathermen) για να δημιουργήσουν μια καινούργια συλλογή ηχητικών απολαύσεων που αποτελούνται από τραγούδια του 1960 και του 1970, δηλαδή γνωστά κομμάτια που διασκευάστηκαν με εξαίσιο τρόπο.
Οι παραπάνω μουσικοί κλήθηκαν να επεξεργαστούν και να διασκευάσουν τραγούδια από τους Jefferson Airplane, τους Pink Floyd και τον Syd Barrett, την Patti Smith, τους The Yardbirds και τους The Velvet Underground.

ENG: The compilation we bring you in this post carries the witty title "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven" and it is the soundtrack to a video-film made by some Patrick De Geetere in 1986.
What's more, "Fuck Your Dreams" is an exceptional collection of songs so far diverse but so close to a common concept. Members from Tuxedomoon and Minimal Compact collaborated with other musicians like Niki Mono and Bruce Geduldig (The Weathermen) to create a new collection of sonic pleasures consisting of relics from the 60's and the 70's past, covering well-known songs extraordinarily transformed.
The above mentioned musicians were called to cover songs from Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett, Patti Smith, The Yardbirds and The Velvet Underground.
We don't believe that these songs were desecrated in any way, on the contrary, they were renewed and restored to the liking of the fans of the new wave, avant garde and experimental genre(s) for the years to come. Enjoy...

The Phones: Two Hearts, Two Heads LP, 1982 Phones Records

[Αυτή η ανάρτηση αφιερώνεται στην Μαργαρίτα, στο τέλος μιας δύσκολης χρονιάς]

Απομένουν λίγες ημέρες από το τέλος του 2015 και θα θέλαμε να σας προσφέρουμε άλλο ένα ξεχασμένο διαμάντι της new wave/post punk σκηνής που περιμένει εδώ και αρκετό καιρό να αναρτηθεί.
Τα παραπάνω ήταν μια αρκετά γενική εισαγωγή στην ανάρτηση ενός άλμπουμ που πραγματικά ακούμε πάρα πολύ συχνά, το "Two Hearts, Two Heads" που κυκλοφόρησε από τους The Phones το 1982. Άν και αποφασίσαμε να γράψουμε κάτι για τους Phones, εντούτοις δεν γνωρίζουμε σχεδόν τίποτα για αυτό το σχετικά άγνωστο Ολλανδικό σχήμα. Όμως συνειδητοποιούμε πως δεν έχει προβληθεί ικανοποιητικά στο ίντερνετ. Είχε αναρτηθεί περίπου πέντε χρόνια πριν-τον Ιανουάριο του 2010 στο blog "A Viable Commercial" blogspot. Αν και γνωρίζουμε ότι ο σύνδεσμος εκεί είναι ακόμα ενεργός, αποφασίσαμε πως το "Two Hearts, Two Heads" χρειαζόταν μια πιο φρέσκια ματιά και προφανώς, πιο φρέσκια ψηφιοποίηση.
Η μουσική στα αυλάκια του δίσκου είναι βασικά new wave και post punk. Αυτό πρακτικά σημαίνει πως δεν πρόκειται μόνο για μουσική που είναι θεωρητικά απλή, αλλά είναι και ταυτόχρονα βαθιά συναισθηματική. Σε κανένα από τα εννέα τραγούδια που βρίσκονται εδώ δεν λείπει η πρωτοτυπία ή επαναλαμβάνει το ίδιο μοτίβο. Όλα τους λίγο-πολύ συνδυάζουν το ξεκάθαρο μουσικό ύφος και τους ανά την περίσταση διφορούμενους στίχους φτάνοντας σε ένα  απολαυστικό αποτέλεσμα. Είναι τόσο απλό το να εντρυφήσει κανείς στην βελούδινη μελαγχολία των φωνητικών για να ανακαλύψει πως είναι σχεδόν θεϊκά. Επιπρόσθετα με κάθε νέο άκουσμα, το άλμπουμ αυτό θα γίνει από τα πλέον αγαπημένα σας ώσπου να φτάσει να γίνει η ύπαρξή του αναγκαία και ουσιαστική.
Θα ήταν μάλλον εύκολο να περιττολογούμε για αυτόν τον εξαιρετικό δίσκο για αρκετή ώρα και από αυτό και μόνο να καταλάβετε πως αξιολογούμε το "Two Hearts, Two Heads". Όμως αναφερόμενοι ξανά στον blogger goutroy, θα συμφωνήσουμε μαζί του μεταξύ των άλλων και στο ότι αυτός ο δίσκος είναι ακριβώς ο λόγος που δημιούργησε το (δικό του) blog για να μοιράζεται μουσική.
Καλή ακρόαση. Ευχόμαστε καλή χρονιά και ευτυχισμένο και δημιουργικό το 2016.

Only a few days remaining before the end of 2015, and we're treating you with yet another forgotten gem of the new wave/post punk scene. It's been waiting for a long time to be posted.
The above was a vague introduction for an album that we love to listen to quite often, the 1982 self-released "Two Hearts, Two Heads" by The Phones. Having decided to write about them, we still don't know much about this less known Dutch band, but we understand that it hasn't been properly promoted. It only appeared (as far as we know) on a post of "A Viable Commercial" blogspot in January 2010. Even though the link is still active, we've decided that "Two Hearts, Two Heads" needed a fresh look and obviously, a fresh rip.
The music inside the grooves of this LP is basically new wave and post punk; by nature that is not only simple in principle but also profoundly emotional. None of the 9 songs appearing here lacks originality or repeats itself as they are the combination of both straightforward music and equivocal lyrics aiming at an enjoyable outcome. It's as simple as that to delve into the velvety gloom of the vocals and discover that they're almost divine. More importantly, this album will be one of your favourites and will grow even better with every listen, until it becomes essential.
We could ramble on about this extraordinary album and thus let you know how much we adore it. We definitely agree with goutroy on many aspects concerning this LP, one of the most important being that this very LP "is exactly the type of album that I created this blog to share".

No Corridor: Chiaroscuro e.p., 1986 + The Backlash e.p., 1990 both on Ai! Records

Το συγκρότημα της σημερινής ανάρτησης λέγεται No Corridor, παίζουν post punk και κατάγονται από την Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Δυστυχώς δεν έχουμε καμία πληροφορία για το παρελθόν των No Corridor, παρά μόνο ότι επανενώθηκαν το 2011 και από τότε κάνουν ζωντανές εμφανίσεις.
Η δισκογραφία τους απαρτίζεται από δύο κυκλοφορίες, δύο e.p., το πρώτο που είναι και το πιο έντονο σε ύφος ονομάζεται "Chiaroscuro" και βγήκε το 1986. Το δεύτερο e.p. ονομάζεται "The Backlash" το οποίο βγήκε το 1990 και ακούγεται πιο ώριμο και μεστό. Όπως και υποννοεί ο όρος "Chiaroscuro", πράγματι η μουσική των No Corridor περιέχει αντιθέσεις όσον αφορά τη διάθεση και το ύφος των συνθέσεων, άλλοτε σε πιο φωτεινά και άλλοτε πιο σκοτεινά ηχοχρώματα για να πετύχουν την επιθυμητή ατμόσφαιρα. Τέλος, ευχαριστούμε τον φίλο "Foreign Affairs" που μας παρείχε το e.p. "The Backlash" σε ψηφιακή μορφή.

ENG: The band in today's post is called No Corridor. They are a post punk band from Great Britain. Unfortunately, there's no information on them about the past. All we know is that the band's reunited since 2011 and performing ever since.
Their discography consists of two e.ps.; the first one which is the strongest in terms of style is entitled "Chiaroscuro" and was issued in 1986. The second e.p. entitled "The Backlash" which was issued in 1990, sounds more ripe and mellow. What's more, as the term "Chiaroscuro" implies, their music is full of contrasts between darker and lighter songs to reach the maximum effect. Blue China: Tomorrow Never Knows 12'' e.p. compilation, 1982 Electric Unicorn

Στη σημερινή ανάρτηση έχουμε ένα Ελβετικό new wave σχήμα, τους Blue China και μια 12'' συλλογή τους υπό τον τίτλο "Tomorrow Never Knows" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1982 από την Electric Unicorn. Είναι προφανές πως το ομώνυμο κομμάτι είναι διασκευή στο πασίγνωστο κομμάτι των Beatles και μάλιστα αρκετά καλή. Επίσης δείχνει και την τάση του συγκροτήματος για πειραματισμούς, όπως για παράδειγμα τα παραποιημένα φωνητικά και οι παραμορφωμένοι ήχοι που αποδίδουν τελικά το προσωπικό τους ύφος.
Σύμφωνα με την ιστοσελίδα definitiv-zuerich.ch στην οποία αναφέρεται κάπως εκτενέστερα η δισκογραφία τους και άλλες πληροφορίες, οι Blue China ήταν το μοναδικό σχήμα της Ζυρίχης που ξεπήδησε από την Πλουραλιστική Εκκλησία (προτεσταντικό κίνημα). Επιπλέον, η μουσική τους ήταν το προϊόν εντατικών σπουδών πάνω στην μοντέρνα μουσική αλλά και διορατικότητα πάνω στην παραδοσιακή μουσική. Φαίνεται πως πρώτο λόγο σε όλα αυτά είχε ο Rudi Dietrich, ιδρυτής και κεντρική μορφή του σχήματος. Ελπίζουμε πως θα ανακαλύψετε τους Blue China και θα απολαύσετε τη μουσική του μοναδικού αυτού σχήματος. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: In today's post we have a Swiss new wave band called Blue China and their 12'' compilation entitled "Tomorrow Never Knows" issued on the Electric Unicorn label in 1982. Apparently, the title track is a Beatles cover and it is wonderfully done. In addition, it shows the band's preference towards experimentations; muffled vocals and distorted sounds from known instruments seem to landmark their unique style. According to definitiv-zuerich.ch, Blue China were the only band from Zurich that came out of the Pluralist Church. All the more, they were the product of intensive studies on pop music and visionary folk music. The founder of the group Rudi Dietrich must've played a major role in forming the band's style. We hope you'll discover and enjoy the music of this unique Swiss band. Have a good listening to it!

1. Greenfield Leisure: Those Far-Off Summers e.p. (Strange Orchestra Records-1982)

Οι Greenfield Leisure ήταν ένα new wave σχήμα από την περιοχή Orpington, ένα προάστιο του Λονδίνου. Είχαν μικρή δισκογραφία με δύο ep που περιλαμβάνει και το "Those Far-Off Summers". Επιπλέον συμμετείχαν και στη θρυλική συλλογή "East of Croydon" (1981). Και τα δύο αυτά ep ανέβηκαν στο blog DIE or DIY? με αρκετές πληροφορίες και για το συγκρότημα.
ENG: Greenfield Leisure was a new wave band from Orpington, a suburb of London. They had a rather short discography with two eps including "Those Far-Off Summers". In addition, they took part in the legendary "East of Croydon" compilation (1981). Both eps have also been posted on the DIE or DIY? blog with additional info on the band.

2. Bron Area: The Trees And The Villages LP (Glass Records-1983)
Οι Bron Area ήταν ένα διάσημο new wave σχήμα από το Coventry της επαρχίας West Midlands. Στις αρχές σχετιζόντουσαν με τους Eyeless In Gaza όπως μπορείτε να διαβάσετε σε αυτή τη βιογραφία των Bron Area στην ιστοσελίδα των Eyeless In Gaza! Βεβαίως οι Bron Area ξεχωρίζουν λόγω του ήρεμου και μεστού ήχου που τους διακρίνει. Επιπλέον, ο τίτλος του δίσκου "The Trees And The Villages" αλλά και τα ένδεκα τραγούδια που περιέχει υπονοούν μια προσέγγιση και μια προσήλωση στον απλοϊκό, επαρχιακό τρόπο ζωής. Ο δίσκος αυτός που κυκλοφόρησε στην θρυλική Glass Records αποτελεί και την μοναδική μεγάλη κυκλοφορία τους από μία έτσι κι αλλιώς μικρή δισκογραφία που επιπλέον αριθμεί δύο 7ιντσα και μια κασέτα. Τέλος, οι Bron Area εμφανίστηκαν και στην πρώτη μεγάλη συλλογή που έβγαλε η Glass Records το 1981 με τίτλο "Wonderful World of Glass Vol.1".
ENG: Bron Area was a famous new wave band from Coventry, West Midlands. Back in the days they were affiliated with Eyeless In Gaza as you can read in this biography. They are distinct for their mellow sound which is their own signature. The LP title "The Trees And The Villages" implies they celebrated the rural and simple life with simple and altogether beautiful songs. The album which was issued on Glass Records was their sole Long Play release out of a short discography consisting of another two 7inch singles and a cassette. Finally, Bron Area appeared on the "Wonderful World of Glass Vol.1" legendary compilation issued by Glass Records in 1981.

3. Red Harvest: Strange LP (Aftermath Records-1989)
Οι Red Harvest ήταν ένα new wave συγκρότημα από την περιοχή του Norwich στην Ανατολική Αγγλία. Αφού τελείωσαν το πανεπιστήμιο, τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος μετακόμισαν στο Λονδίνο και συνέχισαν να γράφουν μουσική. Πήραν το όνομα τους από τη πρώτη νουβέλα του Αμερικανού συγγραφέα Dashiell Hammet που εκδόθηκε το 1929. Κυκλοφόρησαν κάποια singles και δύο LP από τα οποία το "Strange" είναι το πρώτο. Στα περισσότερα τραγούδια του άλμπουμ έκανε παραγωγή και συμμετείχε ο Adrian Borland των Sound, ενώ στο κομμάτι "Heaven" έκανε παραγωγή ο Pete Shelley των Buzzcocks. ENG: Red Harvest was a new wave band from Norwich, East England. After finishing university, the band members moved to London to further explore music tastes. They took their name after "Red Harvest", U.S. author Dashiell Hammet’s first novel published in 1929. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashiell_Hammett) The band released two LPs and a few singles, and "Strange" LP is their first. Apparently, most of the album was produced by Adrian Borland of the Sound (he also played the guitar). Additionally, the song "Heaven" was produced by Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks. 4. Mute Drivers: Lighten Up Volume One LP (Irradiated Records-1987)
Δεν είμαστε βέβαιοι αν πρόκειται για αστείο, αλλά στη σελίδα τους στο discogs αναφέρει πως οι Mute Drivers όντως εργάστηκαν ως διανομείς για την διάσημη δισκογραφική Mute Records. Δεν έχουμε περαιτέρω στοιχεία, εκτός από τη σύνθεση του σχήματος, που αποτελείται από τους David Rogers και Steve Wright. Ασχετα με το αν τελικά απέκτησαν φήμη, κυκλοφόρησαν μια σειρά από άλμπουμ και singles από το 1987 έως το 1991. Ο ήχος τους είναι χαρακτηριστικός και βασίζεται στο επιθετικό μπάσο που συνεργάζεται άψογα με τα κρουστά χτίζοντας ένα απολαυστικό post punk άλμπουμ.
ENG: We're not sure if it's an in-band joke but discogs says they used to be one-time delivery drivers for the famous Mute label. As you realise, we don't have much info on this duo consisting of David Rogers and Steve Wright. Despite being not so well known, they released a few records from 1987 to 1991. Their sound is based on a distinct and aggressive bassline working perectly with the percussions resulting in an altogether enjoyable set of post punk songs.
