VA: Return of the Creeps - The Singles, 1995 Creep Records

Δεν είναι καθόλου τυχαίο ονόματα σαν τους The Reporters, Villa 21, South of No North, Yell-O-Yell, Cpt Nefos, Metro Decay και άλλα, σήμερα να αποτελούν τον ακρογωνιαίο λίθο της μοντέρνας ανεξάρτητης ροκ μουσικής στην Ελλάδα, αλλά και στην Ευρώπη.
Όσον αφορά την συλλογή "Return of the Creeps, The Singles" που ανεβάζουμε σήμερα, αποτελεί την "κληρονομιά" των 7-ιντσων κυκλοφοριών της Creep. Συμμετέχει ολόκληρο το δυναμικό των συγκροτημάτων της εκτός από εκείνα τα οποία δεν κυκλοφόρησαν ποτέ 7", όπως είναι οι South of No North, οι Rehearsed Dreams και οι Angelo & His Egos.

ENG: Undoubtedly, one of the first and perhaps the most important record label in the independent Greek Rock scene was Creep Records. Surviving five creative years from 1982 to 1987 Creep Records released the material of some of the most significant Greek new wave and post punk bands. Throughout the difficulties and the whims of an era, this particular label highlighted the dark side of the local independent scene by giving the initiation to some once insignificant but nowadays essential bands such as The Reporters, Villa 21, South of No North, Yell-O-Yell, Cpt Nefos, Metro Decay, etc. Today some of those bands are considered to be the cornerstones of the local as well as the European new wave/post punk scene. For us the people behind Ten Thousand Eyes Blog the music released through Creep Records was and still is the beginning of a great musical journey on a worldwide scale and we'd like to thank all the people who worked with Creep for this.
Now about today's post, the compilation "Return of the Creeps - The Singles" is the "legacy" of all the 7inch releases, except for South of No North, Rehearsed Dreams and Angelo & His Egos. Those three bands never released a 7" single. Let's not forget to mention the introductory note by the founder of Creep Records Babis Dalidis in both Greek and English inside the cd booklet. Finally, this compilation is a tribute to Filotas Vaskalis (Yell-o-Yell) and Kostas Pothoulakis (The Reporters, Villa 21) who died at early age. Have a good listening to this one!!!

Scoria: Both 1986, Famous Music Records

Records). Ξεχωρίζουν με την πρώτη τα "Time is Money", "X", και το καταπληκτικό "Phobia" που ανοίγει την Β πλευρά. Επίσης υπάρχει και μια πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα διασκευή στο "The Passion of Lovers" των Bauhaus, την οποία οι Scoria έχουν πραγματικά φέρει στα μέτρα τους (σημειώνουν στο οπισθόφυλλο: "cause we love this song").

One of our first posts back in August 2010 was Scoria's first homonymous e.p. Today we present their second and last "English-versed" release entitled "Both" on Famous Music Records (today's F.M. Records, famous release distributor in Greece and abroad). Scoria were definitely one of the most distinctive post punk groups of the 1980's, they had their own style and a large experience of live performances from 1984 up to 1987. Despite their great reputation they disbanded in 1987 but returned in the mid 90's with a new Greek-versed release. "Both" LP released in 1986 [with this beautiful front cover] is an outstanding release upon the same infallible post punk vein of their 1985 e.p. It explores familiar new wave/post punk trails and insists on quality and caustic verse. Upon first hearing "Time is Money", "X" and the astounding "Phobia" are to be distinguished. In addition, there's a quite interesting cover of Bauhaus' "The Passion of Lovers" that Scoria have mastered into their own style (as they note in the back cover "cause we love this song"). As for the rest of the songs, they are quite interesting too. Even if this LP has been re posted by a friendly blog, we have brought a fresh rip here. Have a good listening to this excellent LP.

Scoria: Scoria e.p., 1985 Famous Music Records

Επίσης και το "No More Cries" με το πανέμορφο ρεφραίν του και την rock n roll μαεστρία στο ρυθμό είναι στα ίδια επίπεδα, απλά καταπληκτικό. Your New Golden God" κλείνει αυτό το καταπληκτικό e.p.

Scoria - Scoria e.p., 1985 Famous Music

01. Scoria

02. Tired Lover

03. No More Cries

04. Ladies And Gentlemen Please Welcome... Your New Golden God

One of these bands that survived the 80s in Greece whatever difficulties may have been is Scoria (=rust), who actually managed to release 2 records during 1985 and 1986 and a few other tracks in various compilations (check here). Today we present their first omonymous post punk 12" e.p. It is consisted of 4 very dynamic songs with imaginative melodies, stormy drums and bass played in accuracy. As for the paranoid and sarcastic vocals they interpret the same as sarcastic and ironic lyrics who speak against whatever is 'rusted'. Especially in the first same titled track full of social criticism as they portray a world filled with rust (=Scoria) and that rust is the greatest disease. The diagnosis in the end, is that rust does not exist anywhere else but in our imagination. Read along as you listen... Next song "Tired Lover" starts off with one of the greatest bass riffs, that it may become obsessive - the guitar 'draws' along too. Next one "No More Cries" with the beautiful refrain and the rock n roll twist in its rhythm unfolds the group's skill and talent. Last song for the e.p. is "Ladies And Gentlemen Please Welcome... Your New Golden God" lasting 7 minutes long, an epic in terms of title, lyrics and length. Once again, the bass leads on the music, the quivering sarcastic voice and the guitar filling the gaps in beautiful ways. The title and the lyrics again criticize our over-consuming habits compared as some kind of religion.
Are you ready to listen to Scoria's first effort? HERE is where you meet them.
