Unfortunately, we haven't found any information about the Canadian group The Palace At 4 a.m., however, their music alone will have to do. The mini-LP "Untamed World" is their sole release in the -most probably- self created Collective Ego label. This mini-LP is a tiny gem out of the Canadian new wave and alternative rock scene, of which we are totally unfamiliar with. The Palace At 4 a.m.'s sound is mostly based on a spiraling and moody rhythm section as well as some mild samplers and sounds. Because of this and their thrifty arrangement, they could be mistaken for a contemporary band. Saxophone and flute are dominant as well, as they apparently sound somehow indolent, but listen closely to the song "Untamed World", it sounds as if was composed in the sixties. Also, the homonymous opening song "The Palace At 4 a.m." will surely intrigue you with its wind intensity. In conclusion, Ihor Holubizky's detached vocals are certainly a plus to the whole minimalisic approach leading us all the way to the superb -almost sacramental- "The Man Who Never Sleeps", reminiscent of Tuxedomoon. Let us note that this particular album has never been uploaded by another blog. Have a good listening to this one, we hope you like it!!!
