The Spectors: Main Tracks cdr, 1998 Self-Released

Με καθυστερημένες ευχές για τη νέα χρονιά, ξεκινάμε το 2017 με μια ξεχωριστή ανάρτηση. Έχουμε μια ελληνική γκαραζο-ψυχεδελική μπάντα τους Spectors που κατάγονται από το Αμύνταιο στον βόρειο νομό της Φλώρινας. Πρόκειται για μια ανάρτηση που μας πήρε αρκετό χρόνο, αλλά είναι και μια ευκαιρία για εμάς να 'μοιραστούμε' το cdr "Main Tracks" των Spectors μαζί σας.
Εξίσου σημαντικό είναι το γεγονός πως δεν ήταν εύκολο να εντοπίσουμε πληροφορίες για τους Spectors, οπότε το μεγαλύτερο μέρος τους προέρχεται από μια σύντομη βιογραφία στο εξώφυλλο του cdr, αλλά και από πληροφορίες που μας παρείχε ο φίλτατος blogger 'giusurum', τον οποίο και ευχαριστούμε θερμά.
Ας ξεκινήσουμε με τα μέλη της μπάντας όπως αναφέρεται στο εξώφυλλο του cdr: Κώστας Χατζής (φωνητικά και κιθάρα), Κώστας Μίχος (μπάσσο), Θεόδωρος Φιλίππου (πλήκτρα και σαξόφωνο), Χρήστος Χατζηιωάννου (φωνητικά) και Κωστής Χατζηιωάννου (κιθάρα και μπάσσο). Επιπλέον, χρησιμοποιήθηκε drum machine σε όλα τα κομμάτια. Αναφέρεται και ένας ντράμερ ονόματι Νίκος Νικολαΐδης από τα πρώτα μέλη της μπάντας αλλά δεν συμμετέχει σε κανένα τραγούδι του "Main Tracks". Αργότερα, στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90 ο Κώστας Χατζής δημιούργησε το garage σχήμα Unknown Passage, ενώ το 2008 πριν πεθάνει έκανε το project Dead Tymes .
Εκτός από το πασίγνωστο κομμάτι "Photogrey" που βρίσκεται στην συλλογή "Το Μαγικό Βοτάνι" της Wipe-Out, οι Spectors δεν είχαν καμία ολοκληρωμένη κυκλοφορία σε βινύλιο. Είχαν όμως κυκλοφορήσει υλικό τους σε κασέτες, όπως π.χ. τη ζωντανή ηχογράφηση του 1985 "Οι Spectors ζωντανά στο Ξινό Νερό", ένδειξη πως η μπάντα ήταν αρκετά δραστήρια κυρίως στην Βόρεια Ελλάδα. Το 1987 κυκλοφόρησαν επίσης σε κασέτα τη στουντιακή ηχογράφηση "Sorry For You".
Όσον αφορά το cdr "Main Tracks" φαίνεται να αποτελεί την ολοκληρωμένη συλλογή τραγουδιών και δείχνει την ικανότητά τους να φτιάχνουν εκπληκτική μουσική σε garage-psychedelic κατεύθυνση. Εδώ όλα τα τραγούδια έχουν γραφτεί από τους Spectors και ηχογραφήθηκαν στο σπίτι του Θόδωρου Φιλίππου στο χρονικό διάστημα από το 1986 έως το 1993. Θα ακούσετε αρκετά ενδιαφέροντα τραγούδια σε ελληνικό και αγγλικό στίχο, μεταξύ αυτών και την εκπληκτική μελοποίηση του ποίηματος του E.A. Poe "The Raven", αλλά και μια διαφορετική εκτέλεση του "Photogrey".

ENG: Delayed happy new year wishes to everybody and we're kicking off 2017 with a special treat for you. Here's the greek garage/psychedelic band Spectors that originated from the city of Amyntaio in the northern prefecture of Florina. Note that this post has been a long time waiting one and an opportunity for us to share the "Main Tracks" cdr with you.
It's equally important to note that it wasn't easy to find much info about the Spectors, so all the feedback we post comes from a short biography note on the cdr cover as well as some info provided by fellow blogger 'giusurum' whom we wholeheartedly thank.
To begin with, the Spectors members according to the cdr info were Costas Hatzis (vocals, guitar), Costas Michos (bass guitar), Theodoros Filippou (keyboards, saxophone), Christos Hatziioannou (vocals) and Costis Hatziioannou (guitar, bass guitar). Additionally a drum machine was used in all the songs. A drummer by the name Nikos Nikolaides is mentioned as one of the early members but isn't present in any of the songs. It must've been late 90s when Costas Hatzis created the garage band Unknown Passage and in 2008, before he died, he had another project called Dead Tymes.
Apart from their song "Photogrey" that is featured in Wipe-Out's "Magico Votani" [Magic Herb] the band didn't have any other proper vinyl releases. They did have some tapes released though, for instance there's a live tape recorded in 1985 entitled "The Spectors live In Ksino Nero" and a studio recorded tape entitled "Sorry For You" in 1987.
As far as the "Main Tracks" cdr is concerned, it seems to cover the band's entire studio recording history and exhibits their skill at building songs in a unique style of garage-psychedelic orientation. All the songs were composed by the Spectors and were recorded in Theodoros Filippou's house from 1986 to 1993. So get ready to listen to some very interesting pieces both in Greek and English lyrics, among them an amazing version of  E.A. Poe's "The Raven" and a different version of "Photogrey". If you don't know the Spectors, this is the opportunity to find out about them. Have a good listening to "Main Tracks" and enjoy.

Οι Mushrooms ανήκουν στα συγκροτήματα για τα οποία μπορεί κανείς να βρεί πλείστες πληροφορίες στο διαδίκτυο. Πολλά μουσικά blog έχουν ήδη αναφερθεί σε αυτή την θρυλική garage rock μπάντα, εμείς όμως δεν κάνουμε την ανάρτηση για να προσθέσουμε κάτι καινούργιο, απλά καταγράφουμε την άποψη μας για τη μουσική τους. Ειλικρινά το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ θα μπορούσε και θα έπρεπε να ήταν στις πρώτες αναρτήσεις μας το 2010. Δεν είμαστε σίγουροι γιατί έμεινε απέξω, όμως κάποια στιγμή συνειδητοποιήσαμε πως η μουσική τους ήδη λατρευόταν από χιλιάδες οπαδούς. Οπαδοί τους και εμείς, πιστεύουμε πως τώρα είναι η στιγμή να αναρτήσουμε τον πρώτο τους δίσκο με τίτλο "Taste Of ..." που πρωτοκυκλοφόρησε το 1986 για να ανανεώσουμε το ενδιαφέρον των παλιών οπαδών του group και να μυήσουμε νέους οπαδούς παγκοσμίως.
Οι Mushrooms λοιπόν ήταν ένα πολλά υποσχόμενο Θεσσαλονικιώτικο σχήμα που κυκλοφόρησε δύο ολοκληρωμένους δίσκους και μερικά τραγούδια σε συλλογές όπως η "Cicadas (An Electric Guide To The Greek Underground)". Παρεπιπτόντως, στο blog των urban aspirines θα βρείτε και το "Scarecrow Princes" το δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Mushrooms. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από το ένθετο του "Taste Of ..." το συγκρότημα απαρτιζόταν από τους Purple Jelly ή Pluto (Γιώργο Αντωνιάδη) στα φωνητικά και τους στίχους, τους Ασκληπιό (Ασκληπιό Ζαμπέτα) και Grandfather (Γιώργο Κυριάκο) στις κιθάρες και τα δεύτερα φωνητικά, τον Tripmaker (Κώστα Τρυψάνη) στο μπάσσο και τέλος τον Atmas (Γιώργο Ατματζίδη) στα τύμπανα. Μη νομίσετε όμως πως οι παραπάνω μουσικοί ήταν άπειροι, αφού είναι γεγονός πως πριν από τους Mushrooms είχαν ήδη θητεύσει σε σχήματα όπως οι International Comedy, Silent Moves, κ.α. Με τη διάλυση των Mushrooms κατά το 1991, τα περισσότερα μέλη προχώρησαν σε νέες μουσικές συνεργασίες. Δυστυχώς ο τραγουδιστής-στιχουργός Γιώργος Αντωνιάδης που είχε χρόνιο πρόβλημα με τα ναρκωτικά πέθανε από υπερβολική δόση το 2004.
Ακούγοντας προσεκτικά το "Taste Of ..." συνειδητοποιεί κανείς πως συνδυάζει ποικιλόμορφα στυλ και επιρροές σε μόλις δέκα αυθεντικά garage rock τραγούδια, κάποια από αυτά με ψυχεδελική θεματολογία (π.χ. "Child Of The Tide", "Yard Of My Head"). Η μουσική τους έχει διαχρονική απόχρωση και αποπνέει τη φρεσκάδα του καινούργιου ακόμη και σήμερα αφού βρίθει από καταπληκτικές ιδέες που διαποτίζουν ολόκληρο το άλμπουμ με ενέργεια και πάθος. Επιπλέον διαβάστε και τους στίχους του Γιώργου Αντωνιάδη όπου ενώ υπάρχει η αναμενόμενη ψυχεδελική θεματολογία, τα περισσότερα τραγούδια μιλούν και για το (υποκριτικό) ήθος της κοινωνίας, την μοναξιά και την αποξένωση. Είμαστε σίγουροι πως η πλειοψηφία των αναγνωστών μας θα συμμεριστεί τις απόψεις και θα αγαπήσει τη μουσική τους αν δεν το έχετε ήδη κάνει. Καλή ακρόαση!

ENG: The Mushrooms are a band about which you can find a lot on the web. Several music blogs have already mentioned this legendary Greek garage rock band, yet we're not adding anything new but our own perspective on their music. Honestly, their first album should have been one of our first posts back in 2010. For what reason we left it aside we can't really say now, but at some point we realised that The Mushrooms' two albums had already been celebrated by thousands of fans. We ourselves love their music too, so we think that the present could be the time to bring a new rip of their first LP "Taste Of ..." that was released in 1986 and in this way we renew the interest of old fans and initiate new fans worldwide.
The Mushrooms were a promising garage rock band from Thessaloniki, Greece and survived enough to deliver two full LPs and a few songs scattered among various artists compilations such as "Cicadas (An Electric Guide To The Greek Underground)". In the same blog you'll find "Scarecrow Princes", the band's second LP too. As noted on the first album's inner sleeve, the band consisted of Purple Jelly/Pluto (Giorgos Antoniadis) on vocals and lyrics, Asklipios (Asklipios Zampetas) and Grandfather (Giorgos Kyriakos) on guitars and backing vocals, Tripmaker (Kostas Trypsanis) on bass and finally Atmas (Giorgos Atmatzidis) on drums. Do not concider the aforementioned musicians to be amateurs because by the time they assembled The Mushrooms, they had already been members of other known bands like International Comedy and Silent Moves among few. After The Mushrooms' demise in 1991 they went on to form new or join existing bands. Unfortunately, the singer Giorgos Antoniadis who had chronic drug abuse issues died in 2004.
Upon listening to the "Taste Of ..." it really grabs you because it combines several music styles and influences into ten original and authentic garage-driven songs, few of which deal with psychedelic themes (e.g. "Child Of The Tide", "Yard Of My Head"). The music sounds fresh even today and the songs are all-time classics with great ideas that permeate the album throughout, vibrating with energy and passion. Additionally, the lyrics written by Giorgos Antoniadis (Purple Jelly/Pluto) are worth mentioning too. Besides the expected psychedelic-related themes, the songs speak of the (hypocritical) morals, loneliness and alienation. We believe that most of you will relate to their ideas and love their music if you haven't done so already! Enjoy The Mushrooms!

The Revenge: Wartime LP, 1985 Solide Plaque/Play It Again Sam & Sweet And Sour LP, 1987 Solide Plaque

Η ανάρτηση αυτής της εβδομάδας περιλαμβάνει μια Βελγική μπάντα, τους Revenge, και τα δύο τους άλμπουμ "Wartime" (1985) και "Sweet and Sour" (1987). Το συγκρότημα έτυχε της προσοχής του Jean-Jacques Burnel των Stranglers που έκανε την παραγωγή και στα δύο άλμπουμ. Επίσης, άλλο ένα μέλος των Stranglers, ο κημπορντίστας Dave Greenfield, συμμετείχε στις ηχογραφήσεις και των δύο δίσκων.
Η μουσική των Revenge είναι ένα ιδιότυπο post punk με garage κατεύθυνση και χροιά, πράγμα που προφανώς υποβοήθηθηκε από την παρουσία των δύο μελών από τους Stranglers. Επιπλέον, το "Wartime" που είναι και το πρώτο άλμπουμ έχει πιο τραχύ και ωμό ήχο, ενώ το "Sweet And Sour" είναι πιο μεστό και διάσπαρτο με ψυχεδελικά θέματα. Πάντως αυτή είναι η κληρονομιά των Revenge, δύο άλμπουμ που ευελπιστούμε να σας αρέσουν. Καλή ακρόαση!

ENG: This week's post features a Belgian band called The Revenge and it includes two releases; "Wartime" LP issued in 1985, and "Sweet and Sour" LP issued in 1987. Both releases were produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers. Also, Dave Greenfield (another Stranglers member) assisted with his keyboard playing in both albums.
The Revenge play a garage style post punk and obviously this was aided by the presence of the two members from The Stranglers. Furthermore, "Wartime" as is the earliest album of the two has got rough and raw songs, whereas "Sweet And Sour" is mellower and adds psychedelic themes. All in all, those two albums are The Revenge's musical testimony and we hope they are both to your linking. Enjoy!

The Dispossessed: Sister Mary LP with bonus 7'', 1988 Di Di Music

Από το Hartford του Connecticut των Η.Π.Α. κατάγονται οι Dispossessed, το συγκρότημα της σημερινής μας ανάρτησης. Η δισκογραφία τους περιλαμβάνει το LP "Sister Mary" καθώς και ένα 7ιντσο με τίτλο "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" τα οποία κυκλοφόρησαν το 1988, το πρώτο από την Dagger Records και το δεύτερο από την Dionysus Records αντίστοιχα. Όμως η ανεξάρτητη ελληνική δισκογραφική Di Di Music επανακυκλοφόρησε το "Sister Mary" σε μια ειδική έκδοση με την προσθήκη ενός 7ιντσου με δύο ακυκλοφόρητα τραγούδια. Σημειώνουμε πως τα δύο επιπλέον κομμάτια αποτελούν ακυκλοφόρητη μουσική και δεν προέρχονται από το "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite". Στο myspace υπάρχουν και άλλα κομμάτια τους που μπορείτε να ακούσετε. Πάντως, οι πληροφορίες στο διαδίκτυο για τους Dispossessed είναι ελάχιστες.
Σε ό,τι αφορά τη μουσική τους, βασικά πρόκειται για post punk με αρκετές ενέσεις από garage psych, ένα αμάλγαμα κιθαριστικό και σκοτεινό μαζί. Ενδεχομένως ανάμεσα στις νότες των καταπληκτικών συνθέσεων να εντοπίσετε τις επιρροές από άλλα μουσικά είδη, πράγμα που προσθέτει αξία στη μουσική των Dispossessed. Ανάμεσα στα εκπληκτικά κομμάτια που πλαισιώνουν το "Sister Mary" ξεχωρίζουν τα "Kingdom, Kingdom", "The World", "Sister Mary", "Half Life", αλλά και η εντυπωσιακή διασκευή στο "Waiting For The Sun" των Doors. Όσο για τα άλλα δύο κομμάτια του 7ιντσου, θα διαπιστώσετε οι ίδιοι πως δεν υστερούν σε τίποτα. Καλή ακρόαση!

ENG: Today's post The Dispossessed come from Hartford, Connecticut U.S. Their entire discography includes an LP, "Sister Mary" and a 7inch single, "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" both of which were released in 1988 by Dagger Records and Dionysus Records respectively. But it was the greek independent label Di Di Music which re-released "Sister Mary" LP with two additional songs in 7inch format. We note that those two extra songs were not included in "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" either. You can listen to more unreleased material from The Dispossessed on their myspace fanpage.
Their music is basically post punk with plenty of garage psych buildup, effectively, an amalgam of guitar sound with lots of dark hues and intonations altogether. Nevertheless, there is more to their sound, especially for the trained ear. Among the excellent pieces of "Sister Mary", the most prominent ones are "Kingdom, Kingdom", "The World", "Sister Mary", "Half Life" as well as the impressive cover of The Doors' "Waiting For The Sun". Also, the two extra songs included in the bonus 7inch are quite superb. Enjoy listening to this one!

7-inch singles, April 2012 part four: Permanent Show 7'' & Personality Crisis 7'' & The Hydes: Hard Lovin 7'' e.p.

Και τώρα κάτι λιγάκι διαφορετικό... το φυλάξαμε για το τελευταίο μέρος του Απριλιάτικου αφιερώματος σε κάποιες σημαντικές 7-ιντσες κυκλοφορίες. Παρουσιάζουμε τρία συγκροτήματα του garage/garage punk ιδιώματος με "επιθετική" και παθιασμένη παρουσία στο χώρο της ανεξάρτητης Ελληνικής ροκ μουσικής. Σε αυτή την αναζήτηση που κάναμε για τα τρία παρακάτω συγκροτήματα, ήταν δύσκολο-μάλλον ακατόρθωτο να βρούμε περαιτέρω στοιχεία εκτός από αυτά που υπάρχουν ήδη στα ένθετα των δίσκων, οπότε θα αρκεστούμε κυρίως στη μουσική. Ευχαριστούμε ιδιαίτερα τον Joe που μας παρείχε τους δίσκους.

Ξεκινάμε με το πιο παλιό από τα 7-ιντσα, τους Αθηναίους Permanent Show στο Big Nose Trip/Paris που κυκλοφόρησε από την Wipe Out εν έτει 1993. Οι Permanent Show, παίζουν μελωδικό νεο-ψυχεδελικό garage όπου η farfissa παίζει πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο ιδιαιτέρως στο "Big Nose Trip" όπου η μελωδία σιγά σιγά κλιμακώνεται θυμίζοντας πρωτογενείς ψυχεδελικές φόρμες. Όμως το "Paris" είναι αυτό που "μένει" με το πρώτο άκουσμα στον ακροατή, κι αυτό συμβαίνει λόγω του κολλητικού riff της κιθάρας. Από όσο γνωρίζουμε, οι Permanent Show δεν κυκλοφόρησαν τίποτε άλλο πέρα από αυτό το απολαυστικό 7-ιντσο.

Περνάμε τώρα στους παθιασμένους rock 'n' rollers Personality Crisis από την Κατερίνη της Πιερίας και την μοναδική 7-ιντση ομότιτλη κυκλοφορία τους από την Swallow it All Records, ένα label που ειδικεύεται σε garage και garage punk υλικό. Έχουν επιπλέον κυκλοφορήσει και δύο cd στην ίδια εταιρεία. Αυτό που κάνει εντύπωση με τους Personality Crisis είναι η απίστευτη ενέργεια που εξαπολύουν μέσα από τη μουσική τους. Τα δύο κομμάτια του 7-ιντσου ("Lost Case"/"Dead Fun") είναι το ένα καλύτερο από το άλλο. Εντοπίζουμε εύκολα τις δημιουργικές επιρροές από τους παππούδες Stooges αλλά και τους μπαμπάδες Ramones. Συνολικά η μουσική τους δεν είναι τίποτε άλλο από αγνό και ασυμβίβαστο rock 'n' roll που θυμίζει το παλιό γνωμικό "ζήσε γρήγορα, πέθανε νέος" και που φαίνεται πως έκανε πράξη ένας εκ των μελών του συγκροτήματος, ο 'Fuzzy' Παπαχρόνης που χάθηκε πρόωρα σε αυτοκινητιστικό δυστύχημα και που θήτευσε και στους Rocking Bones ενώ παράλληλα έκανε καριέρα ηθοποιού, ήταν δηλαδή ένα πραγματικό ταλέντο.

Τέλος, θα κλείσουμε αυτή τη σειρά αναρτήσεων με τους Hydes από την Θεσσαλονίκη και το 7-ιντσο e.p. τους με τίτλο "Hard Lovin" του 1997. Όπως και οι Personality Crisis, έτσι και οι Hydes κυκλοφόρησαν το υλικό τους μέσω της Swallow it All Records. Να πούμε επίσης πως η πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία (το 7-ιντσο "Out Tonite") ήταν στην Αυστραλέζικη Corduroy. Οι Hydes ξεχύνουν τον παθιασμένο, "βρώμικο", rock 'n' roll ήχο μιας garage μπάντας, είναι δηλαδή ατίθασοι, φευγάτοι, ακριβώς όπως θα έπρεπε να είναι ένα τέτοιο συγκρότημα. Έχουν μελωδικές, καλοδουλεμένες και ολοκληρωμένες συνθέσεις, αλλά είναι πιο σκοτεινοί από τα παραπάνω συγκροτήματα της ανάρτησης μας. Επιπλέον, εικάζουμε πως το όνομα τους είναι αναφορά στον Mr. Hyde, το σκοτεινό alter ego του Dr. Jekyll, από τη νουβέλα του Robert Lewis Stevenson "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". Οπωσδήποτε είναι ένα σχήμα που θα αγαπήσετε. Ευχόμαστε καλή ακρόαση στα τρία αυτά 7-ντσα. Θα τα πούμε τον επόμενο...μήνα με περισσότερη μουσική.

ENG: And now here's something slightly different...which we kept for the last part of this April's tribute to notable 7-inch releases. Here are three bands from the garage/garage punk genre, all ready and passionate, and coming from Greece. Any quest for further information returned fruitless, it was almost impossible to find anything about the following bands. Guess the music will do (it's work). Credits and thanks to Joe for providing us with the three 7-inch records to rip.

First things first and we begin with the oldest 7-inch of the three, the only release by the Athenian band Permanent Show, "Big Nose Trip"/"Paris" issued on Wipe Out Records in 1993. Permanent Show are into melodic new psychedelic/garage with the intense and farfissa organ escalating during "Big Nose Trip's" psychedelic built-up. As for the flipside track "Paris", the guitar riff will get you into listening to it again and again.

Now, let's see the passionate rock 'n' rollers Personality Crisis from Katerini of Pieria (Northern Greece) and their one and only vinyl release on Swallow It All Records. They also have two more releases (on cd) on the same garage label. What's great about Personality Crisis is that they manage to launch an incredible musical energy through their songs. The two songs contained here ("Lost Case"/"Dead Fun") are equally strong and are distinctively influenced by the grandfathers called The Stooges and the fathers called The Ramones. Personality Crisis deal uncompromisingly with genuine rock 'n' roll, this summarized in the old motto "live fast, die young". "Fuzzy" Papachronis the band's guitarist is an example of that, he died quite young (he lost his life in a car accident). He was a talented person, among other things he was also involved with another band called Rocking Bones and pursued a part-time acting career, too).

Finally, we're closing this post with The Hydes from Thessaloniki (Northern Greece) and their 1997 "Hard Lovin" 7-inch e.p. on Swallow It All Records. Their first ever release ("Out Tonite" 7-inch) was on the Australian label Corduroy. The Hydes spit out music in a genuine, passionate, "dirty" rock 'n' roll manner. Consequently, they are untamed, rebellious as a garage band should be. Their well-worked compositions reveal a darker shade garage music compared to the previous bands of this post. Likewise, their name must be a reference to the character of Mr. Hyde, the alter ego of Dr. Jekyll, taken from R.L. Stevenson's novel "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". They are definitely the kind of music that you'll love.

The Melting Ashes: Green Fuzz 1987, 1991, Wipe Out Records

Σήμερα έχουμε κάτι το διαφορετικό -ηχητικά- και το οποίο έρχεται επίσης από τα σκοτεινά χρόνια της δεκαετίας του 80 και θα ήταν κρίμα ένα τέτοιο διαμάντι να μείνει στην αφάνεια του Χρόνου.

Πρόκειται για τους Melting Ashes, μια ανεξάρτητη garage-psychedelic r'n'r μπάντα που έδρασε μεταξύ 1986-1990. Κυκλοφόρησε κάποια demo, έκανε αρκετά live, συμμετείχε στις συλλογές της Wipe Out "12 Raw Greek Bands" (1988) και "Double Shot" (1991) με το κομμάτι "The Midnight Bar" (και στις δύο). Τελικά, μετά τη διάλυση του συγκροτήματος το 1991, κυκλοφόρησε από την Wipe Out και το LP (ηχογραφημένο σε 4-κάναλο από το 1988) με τίτλο"Green Fuzz 1987", αυτό δηλαδή που σήμερα σας παρουσιάζουμε. Σύμφωνα και με το σημείωμα (στο οπισθόφυλλο) του Θοδωρή "The Whip" Κρίθαρη, φίλου, μάνατζερ των Melting Ashes (και συνιδρυτή της Wipe Out), ο οποίος έχει χρησιμοποιήσει αρκετά ποιητική γλώσσα για να περιγράψει και να εξιστορήσει την εμπειρία του με το συγκρότημα, λέει πως "πρόκειται για πηγαίο συναισθηματικό rock 'n' roll". Ο ήχος του συγκροτήματος χαρακτηρίζεται από την καθαρόαιμη r'n'r ραχοκοκκαλιά και την ήπια ψυχεδελική παρουσία, επιτρέποντας να συνυπάρχουν δύναμη και ηρεμία μαζί. Παραθέτοντας ξανά από τα σχόλια του Κρίθαρη: "Οι ψυχεδελικές νότες με έστειλαν από τα παγόβουνα της Αλάσκας ως το άγριο πάθος της ζούγκλας του Αμαζονίου, από τους πρωτόγονους χορούς των Ινδιάνων, ως την γαλήνη της Ανατολίτικης κουλτούρας, από το Παρελθόν έως το 'επικίνδυνο' μακρινό Μέλλον του Κόσμου". Αυτός ο σπάνιος και ανεκτίμητος δίσκος σίγουρα θα σας "ταξιδέψει" στο Χώρο και στον Χρόνο. Ελπίζουμε να σας αρέσει...

Today's post is slightly different - sound wise - and it comes from Greece's past: the 'dark' years of the 80's. It’d be a pity if we left this jewel get lost in time. We are talking about Melting Ashes, an independent garage-psychedelic r'n'r group that was active among 1986-1990. They self-released some demos, had plenty live shows, participated in Wipe Out's compilations with the song "The Midnight Bar"

in "12 Raw Greek Bands" (1988) and in "Double Shot" (1991) too. Finally the LP "Green Fuzz 1987" came out in 1991 after the group disbanded and it costituted of ten songsrecorded in a 4-channel, back in 1988. According to the back cover poetic note written by the group's manager and friend (and co-creator of Wipe Out Records) Thodoris "the whip' Kritharis explaining the Melting Ashes experience as a "rock 'n' roll sound-emotional source". Indeed their sound consists of a raw rock n roll backbone and a mild psychedelic presence, which allows power and serenity at the same time. Σήμερα παρουσιάζουμε ένα μικρό διαμάντι με τιτλο “The Present Years” μοναδική κυκλοφορία των Unicorn εν έτει 1991 μέσω της άγνωστης Monokeros Records. Δεν είναι εύκολο να βρεί κανείς πολλές πληροφορίες για τους Unicorn σε έντυπα ή στο διαδίκτυο. Μόνο το οπισθόφυλλο έχει πληροφορίες για τα μέλη του group και φυσικά η μουσική τους σε αυτό το mini LP που μαρτυρά τις επιρροές τους και την έμπνευσή τους. Το “The Present Years” είναι ένας δίσκος που αποκαλύπτεται σιγά σιγά, και που κατακτά τον ακροατή του από το δεύτερο άκουσμα και μετά. Είναι σε ύφος new wave με αρκετές garage πινελιές εδώ κι εκεί. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό πως όσο μελαγχολικό μπορεί να το χαρακτηρίσει κανείς, άλλο τόσο αισιόδοξο μπορεί να φανεί σε κάθε άκουσμα. Κάθε τραγούδι είναι μια όμορφη σύνθεση με απλές αλλά ευρηματικές μελωδίες και κάποια εφέ στην κιθάρα ενώ το μπάσο με την ντράμς δουλεύουν σαν καλοκουρδισμένο ρολόϊ. Υπάρχουν και άλλα όργανα που ακούγονται, όπως πιάνο και βιολί και εμπλουτίζουν τις συνθέσεις. Κάθε κομμάτι είναι πανέμορφο, αλλά σίγουρα αυτά που ξεχωρίζουν είναι τα “Rain in my eyes” και “World of Lies”. Απολαύστε το “The Present Years” ΕΔΩ...

Today we are presenting a mini LP entitled “The Present Years”, sole release of a band called Unicorn via the unknown Monokeros Records. It is a rare to find vinyl, and it is also difficult to find further information for the band in the press or the internet. On the back cover you can find some info about the group and the release. The music however is the only witness of Unicorn's inspiration and influences. “The Present Years” is a record that reveals itself slowly and satisfies the listener with the second time. The music style is New wave with plenty Garage influences here and there. What is mostly characteristic about “The Present Years” is that once you listen to it you might decide that it is a melancholic album, and if you listen to it another time it might sound quite an optimistic album after all. Each song is beautifully composed of original guitar melodies and effects, while the rhythm section works like a well-tuned clock. Furthermore, piano and violin enrich the music. Each song is beautiful, however those who stand out are “Rain in my eyes” and World of Lies”. Enjoy “The Present Years” HERE...
