TVC: TVC LP 1982, Vertigo/PolyGram

Οι TVC είναι από τα παλιότερα new wave σχήματα της εγχώριας σκηνής και είναι κρίμα που δεν κανένα άλμπουμ να ανεβάσουμε νωρίτερα. Πρόσφατα έπεσε στα χέρια μας το πρώτο τους LP και αδράξαμε την ευκαιρία. Όπως μας πληροφορεί το έγκυρο Tribe4mian.wordpress.com αρχικά λεγόντουσαν Video, στη συνέχεια άλλαξαν το όνομα τους σε Tender Violent Century και αργότερα σε Tender Violent Chords. Μπορείτε να διαβάσετε την υπόλοιπη ανάρτηση καθώς και άλλες σχετικά στο μπλόγκ. Το γεγονός πως το  ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε εν έτει 1982 μέσω της πολυεθνικής Polygram δείχνει πως ήταν ένα πολλά υποσχόμενο σχήμα. Επίσης φαίνεται πως ήταν αρκετά δραστήριοι με πολλές ζωντανές εμφανίσεις στα Αθηναϊκά στέκια της εποχής. Τα μέλη τους ήταν οι Ανδρέας Κουμπαρούλης (κιθάρα/φωνή), Φάνης Φωτόπουλος (μπάσσο), Νίκος Λουίζος (πλήκτρα) και Δημήτρης Δημητράκας (τύμπανα). Όσον αφορά αυτόν τον πρώτο δίσκο που φέρει το όνομα του γκρούπ, βρίθει συνθέσεων που προσδίδουν τη ζωντάνια και την ενέργεια ενός σχήματος που "πατάει" σε σχετικά νέο έδαφος. Οι ένδεκα πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις δείχνουν την ικανότητα του συγκροτήματος να αφομοιώνει επιρροές και εξωτερικά ερεθίσματα, με όχημα κυρίως την punk και να παράγει δικό του ήχο. Τα τραγούδια του δίσκου είναι μεν σύντομα αλλά πολυδιάστατα και τα περισσότερα από αυτά έχουν άμεσο χαρακτήρα. Γι'αυτό και μας άρεσαν ιδιαίτερα τα "Wash Your Brain", "Brave New World", "Let's Say No" και το "Hard Time Glory" που μοιάζει σαν να ήταν το επόμενο βήμα του ελληνικού new wave. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: TVC were one of the earliest bands in Greece's new wave scene of the 1980's and it is too bad we didn't have any of their work to post. Recently we came across their first LP and here's the opportunity. Based on the valid blog of Tribe4mian from which we got most of the info, the band's first name was Video, then they changed their name to Tender Violent Century, eventually finalizing on Tender Violent Chords, hence TVC. Here's the link for the specific post. The fact that TVC's debut LP was released via the international label Polygram reads that they might've been a promising new group. It seems that they had paved their way to success with numerous live acts at live bars of Athens. The members of the group were Andreas Koumbaroulis on guitar and vocals, Fanis Fotopoulos on bass guitar, Nikos Louizos on keyboards and Dimitris Dimitrakas on drums. Dimitrakas has been a member of a number of bands throughout the years. Here's his webpage for more info.

As for the debut and same titled LP of TVC, it is full of songs that show the vigor and energy of a new group that treads on relatively new "ground". There are eleven original songs which prove TVC to be capable of assimilating influences and stimuli. Also, by utilizing punk forms they came to produce their own sound. Most of the songs in the LP are short, yet diverse and direct. This is why we mostly favored "Wash Your Brain", "Brave New World", "Let's Say No" and "Hard Time Glory". The last one shows as if it were the next step of the Greek new wave. Have a good listening to this one!

Less Words/More Music Issue#3

1. Various/Eurowave (for Rednecks) LP (Parsley-1982)

Η συλλογή "Eurowave (for Rednecks)" δεν φαίνεται να έχει αναρτηθεί σε κάποιο blog ως τώρα. Αφού την ξεθάψαμε από ένα σωρό αρχεία που είχε ψηφιοποιήσει ο Unspeakable αρκετά χρόνια πριν, είπαμε πια να την ανεβάσουμε. Κυκλοφόρησε από την Parsley Records στα 1982 και περιέχει 13 εξαιρετικά new wave κομμάτια από γνωστά αλλά και άγνωστα συγκροτήματα του Βελγίου. Μεταξύ τους οι Arbeid Adelt!, Red Zebra, T.C. Matic και Luna Twist. Να περάσετε καλά.
ENG: "Eurowave (for Rednecks)" hasn't probably been posted before. We unearthed the files from Unspeakable's vault and here it is, posted at last! It was released on Parsley Records in 1982 and contains 13 excellent new wave songs from some bands we know a little about and others of whom we know nothing about. 2. Various/Start Swimming LP (Stiff America-1981)
Η δεύτερη συλλογή για σήμερα με τίτλο "Start Swimming" είναι από την ηχογράφηση μιας πολλά υποσχόμενης ζωντανής εμφάνισης έξι Νεοϋορκέζικων συγκροτημάτων στο Λονδίνο στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 80. Η συναυλία αυτή έλαβε χώρα στο Rainbow Theatre τον Φεβρουάριο του 1981. Προφανώς δεν ήταν μία από τις καλύτερες εμφανίσεις και ένα από τα συγκροτήματα, οι Polyrock, δεν θέλησαν να συμπεριληφθούν σε αυτή την κυκλοφορία. Έτσι ο δίσκος περιέχει κομμάτια από τους Bongos, Raybeats, dB's, Bush Tetras και τους Fleshtones. Αρχικά η συλλογή είχε ανέβει στο blog "No More Forgotten Music" αλλά τώρα το link είναι ανενεργό. Επίσης, δείτε και την άποψη ενός από τα συγκροτήματα (dB's) για εκείνη την εμφάνιση. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Today's second compilation bears the title "Start Swimming" and comes from a most promising live appearance of six bands from New York in London. The concert took place at the Rainbow Theater in February 1981. Apparently, it wasn't one of the best concerts and one of the bands, Polyrock, didn't want to get included in this release, so the album contains The Bongos, The Raybeats, The dB's, Bush Tetras and The Fleshtones. "No Longer Forgotten Music" had originally posted about this LP but now the link is inactive. Futhermore, check what one of the bands (The dB's) had to say about that particular concert in 1981. Have a good listening to this one!

End Over End: Scenes From A New World LP 1986, Deep Ellum Records

Δυστυχώς δεν βρήκαμε καμία πληροφορία για το συγκρότημα της ημέρας, τους End Over End οι οποίοι μας έρχονται από το Dallas των Η.Π.Α. Το άλμπουμ "Scenes From A New World" κυκλοφόρησε το 1986 στην ανεξάρτητη Deep Ellum Records. Πριν από το άλμπουμ  είχαν κυκλοφορήσει και ένα 7ιντσο single, το "Seven Day Servant/Dasvidanya" στην Pool Records το 1985. Το σίγουρο είναι πάντως πως το new wave/post punk των End Over End έχει ιδιόμορφο και προσωπικό ύφος, πράγμα που αποτυπώνεται στα εννιά μελωδικά αλλά και ρυθμικά τραγούδια του δίσκου. Δεν υπάρχει ούτε ένα τραγούδι που να υστερεί, όμως θα βρείτε ποιά σας ταιριάζουν. Καλή ακρόαση!

ENG: It's too bad we didn't find any info on today's band End Over End from Dallas, U.S.A. Their LP was released on the independent label Deep Ellum Records in 1986. Prior to the LP they had released the 7inch "Seven Day Servant/Dasvidanya" on Pool Records in 1985. End Over End's new wave/post punk approach has got a peculiar and personal style illustrated on all nine songs of the LP, in both a melodic and rhythmic way. Each and every one of them are worth listening, and you will find your own favourites eventually. Have a good listening to this one!

Into the Abyss: The Feathered Snake CD 1995, Glasnost Records

Σήμερα ανεβάζουμε το δεύτερο άλμπουμ των Into the Abyss που κυκλοφόρησε από την Glasnost Records το 1995 με τον τίτλο "The Feathered Snake". Αφού θα έχετε ήδη ακούσει την πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία "Martyrium" (την ανεβάσαμε το καλοκαίρι του 2012), θα είστε εξοικειωμένοι με τις κυριολεκτικά επικές συνθέσεις, επικεντρωμένες στον χαρακτηριστικό ήχο της κιθάρας και του βιολιού, αλλά και τα εκφραστικότατα φωνητικά του Γιάννη Καλιφατίδη και την εκτελεστική δεινότητα του Κώστα Τζέρα στο μπάσο και του Jens Gellner στα τύμπανα. 

Όπως έχουμε ξαναπεί οι Into the Abyss φαίνεται πως καθοδηγούνται από πάθος και έμπνευση, δύο συστατικά που αναμειγνύουν με μαεστρία προς τέρψη των ακροατών, προσαρμόζοντας και τελειοποιώντας διαρκώς το στυλ τους. Πράγματι, το "The Feathered Snake" κάνει τις εξαιρετικές ιδέες που αναπτύχθηκαν στο "Martyrium" παράδοση. Όμως αυτός ο δεύτερος δίσκος δημιουργεί και ανοίγει νέους δρόμους για το συγκρότημα που δεν θα ολοκληρωθούν μέχρι το "Cosmogonia". Έτσι, είναι δύσκολο έως ακατόρθωτο να αντισταθεί κανείς σε κομμάτια τόσο ελκυστικά όπως τα "Resignation to the Void", The Eternal Heat", "La Soeur D' Icare" και "Dragon Snake", όχι πως τα υπόλοιπα που δεν αναφέρουμε εδώ δεν θα σας συγκινήσουν δεόντως. Οι ιστορίες που αφηγείται κάθε ένα τραγούδι και η γνώριμη θεματολογία των ΙΤΑ, είναι ταυτόχρονα ελκυστικές για τους ρομαντικούς αντιρρησίες του σήμερα και τους λάτρεις των κοσμικών μύθων του χθες που μας διδάσκουν το αύριο.

ENG: We're posting the second album by Into the Abyss which was released through Glasnost Records in 1995 and was entitled "The Feathered Snake". You've already listened to their first album "Martyrium" (posted in the summer of 2012) and have become familiar with the literally epic compositions focused on the distinct sound of the guitar and the violin. In addition, the most expressive voice of Yiannis Kalifatidis and the performing excellence of Kostas Tzeras on bass and Jens Gellner on drums.
As mentioned before, Into the Abyss are guided by passion and inspiration, two components they mix in a professional manner, mostly for the pleasure of the listeners. In effect, ITA adjust and perfect their unique sound perpetually. Indeed, "The Feathered Snake" establishes the great music of "Martyrium" into a tradition. However, this second release draws new ways for the style of the band; these ways aren't going to be clear until the release of the third album, "Cosmogonia". Nevertheless, it is difficult to resist the spell of songs such as "Resignation to the Void", The Eternal Heat", "La Soeur D' Icare" and "Dragon Snake". The others we don't mention are equally strong and important but you have to figure out by yourselves... Each song tells a story in the familiar themes of Into the Abyss, they are both attractive to the romantic objectors of today and the lovers of cosmic myths of yesterday instructing the future.

Less Words/More Music Issue #2

1. Zarkadakis: Wild Love mLP (Wipe Out!-1990)

Το "Wild Love" του Γιώργου Ζαρκαδάκη αναρτάται εδώ μετά από παράκληση αναγνώστη. Ελάχιστες οι πληροφορίες σχετικά με το μίνι άλμπουμ του Γ. Ζαρκαδάκη, του οποίου οι δραστηριότητες τα τελευταία χρόνια είναι κυρίως λογοτεχνικές. Είναι μια κυκλοφορία προσανατολισμένη σε new wave στυλ και ήχο Βρετανικής επιρροής όπως π.χ. David Bowie, όμως με βασικά ατού τις πρωτότυπες συνθέσεις και τα χαρακτηριστικά φωνητικά του Ζαρκαδάκη. Έχει σημασία να πούμε πως η πρώτη πλευρά του mini-LP ηχογραφήθηκε στο Λονδίνο ενώ η δεύτερη στην Αθήνα. Κατά τη γνώμη μας ξεχωρίζουν τα "Ride High"και "Omega City" αντίστοιχα από κάθε πλευρά.

ENG: One of our readers asked if we could post Zarkadakis' "Wild Love". Needless to say it was hard to find anything about this mini LP, except for the fact that George Zarkadakis is at present a poet and author. As for the music of the mini LP, the style is british new wave, e.g. David Bowie. What makes it unique though, is the original compositions and Zarkadakis' characteristic vocals. We should note that the first side of the album was recorded in London and the second one in Athens. In our opinion, the best songs of the album are "Ride High"and "Omega City" from each side respectively.

2. Childrens Day: A Message to Pretty mLP (The Vodka Label/Posh Boy-1986)
Οι Childrens Day κατάγονται από την Καλιφόρνια των Η.Π.Α. και παίζουν παθιασμένο indie rock διανθισμένο με νεο-ψυχεδελικές και post punk επιρροές. Ενώ το συγκεκριμένο mini LP κυκλοφόρησε το 1986, οι φρέσκιες ιδέες και η μουσική του μοιάζει σαν να γράφτηκε τουλάχιστον μια δεκαετία αργότερα. Το "A Message to Pretty" απαρτίζεται από 6 δυναμικές συνθέσεις (συν μία μεγαλύτερη εκτέλεση του "Bad Train Ride") τόσο ευρηματικές και μελωδικές που πραγματικά δεν θα μπορούμε να ξεχωρίσουμε κάποια ως λιγότερο απολαυστική.
ENG: Childrens Day originate from California, U.S. and play passionate indie rock music garnished with neo-psychedelic and post punk influences. Even if "A Message to Pretty" mini LP was released in 1986, it is full of the kind of music not seen until a decade after. "A Message to Pretty" consists of 6 powerful songs (plus one longer version of "Bad Train Ride"). Every one of the songs is so inspired and melodic that it is difficult for us to choose which is the best one.

3. Korova Milkbar: Like Chewing Electricity mLP (Joker Records-1990)
Φαίνεται πως οι Σουηδοί Korova Milkbar αρέσκονται στο να κυκλοφορούν την καταπληκτική μουσική τους σε μικρές δόσεις... Το δεύτερο μίνι άλμπουμ τους με τίτλο "Like Chewing Electricity" κυκλοφόρησε δύο χρόνια μετά το καταπληκτικό "Super Sonic Death Trip" και μοιράζεται εξίσου την ίδια ενέργεια και δυναμική με τη διαφορά πως οι συνθέσεις δεν είναι τόσο πρωτότυπες. Πάντως οι κιθάρες επιμένουν να είναι τόσο πυκνές και σαρωτικές όσο και πριν.
ENG: It appears that the Swedish Korova Milkbar had the habit of releasing their music in small doses, as in mini LPs. Their second mini album entitled "Like Chewing Electricity" was released two years after the astounding "Super Sonic Death Trip" and it shares the same powerful dynamic, except that the compositions aren't that original. The guitar sound, is as dense and sweeping as it was before.

4. The Mindblowers: Fear of Fantasy (Normal Records-1986)
Οι Mindblowers είναι ένα post punk/gothic σχήμα από την (πρώην Δυτική) Γερμανία κατά πάσα πιθανότητα από την πόλη Osnabruck. Δεν γνωρίζαμε την ύπαρξη του άλμπουμ, αλλά ο φίλος f@NdY μας δάνεισε την κόπια του για να το ακούσουμε, και το οποίο έχει τον ευφάνταστο τίτλο "Fear of Fantasy" και είναι ίσως το μοναδικό που κυκλοφόρησαν. Είναι ένα από τα πιο ωραία post punk/gothic άλμπουμ που ακούσαμε πρόσφατα, καθώς είναι γεμάτο από έμπνευση και πειραματισμό, με εμφανείς επιρροές από Christian Death, Bauhaus, Birthday Party και άλλα συναφή σχήματα. Προσέξτε ιδιαίτερα τα "Lonesome Hobo", "Four Dead Horses", "Love of a Simple Man" και "Fear of Fantasy".
ENG: The Mindblowers are a post punk/gothic group from (former West) Germany, most probably originating from the city of Osnabruck. We couldn't possibly know the existence of this LP, but it was on loan from our friend f@NdY, so we eventually listened to it. First, the title is quite imaginable "Fear of Fantasy" and it's the band's sole release. It proved to be one of the most enjoyable post punk/gothic LPs we have come across recently, and it is full of inspiration as well as experimentation. Most obviously The Mindblowers have been influenced by Christian Death, Bauhaus, Birthday Party and other similar groups. Pay special attention to "Lonesome Hobo", "Four Dead Horses", "Love of a Simple Man" and "Fear of Fantasy".

5. Beton Combo: Perfektion Ist Sache Der Gotter LP (Aggressive Rockproduktionen-1981)
Αυτό το άλμπουμ έχει ήδη αναρτηθεί και στο 'musicnotnoize.blogspot.com', όμως θεωρήσαμε πως χρειαζόταν καινούργια ψηφιοποίηση. Οι Beton Combo παίζουν punk/post punk και έρχονται από το (Δυτικό) Βερολίνο. Μας αρέσει ιδιαίτερα το μελωδική punk ύφος των τραγουδιών του "Perfektion Ist Sache Der Gotter". Από εκεί και μετά, οι επόμενες κυκλοφορίες τους είναι σε hardcore punk στυλ. Μας αρέσει και το γεγονός πως τα θέματα που πραγματεύονται είναι κοινωνικά και πολιτικά. Το "Perfektion Ist..." είναι το μοναδικό μεγάλο άλμπουμ που κυκλοφόρησαν και περιέχει εξαιρετικές στιγμές όπως τα "Reich", "Der Langste Ritt", "Hohle Schweine" και το δικό μας αγαπημένο "N.R." (Nazis Raus). Απολαύστε το πιο κάτω...
ENG: This LP has already been posted on 'musicnotnoize.blogspot.com', but we felt that there was a need for a new rip. Beton Combo play punk/post punk and originate from (West) Berlin, Germany. What makes them special to us is the way they melodify punk music all through the "Perfektion Ist Sache Der Gotter" LP. In latter releases they went on to play in a much more hardcore style. We also like that their lyrics deal with socialand political issues. Anyway, the album "Perfektion Ist...." is their sole LP and contains some excellent songs such as "Reich", "Der Langste Ritt", "Hohle Schweine" and our personal favourite "N.R." (Nazis Raus). Less Words/More Music Issue #1

Από σήμερα εγκαινιάζουμε την πρώτη θεματική ενότητα του "10.000 Eyes" η οποία θα ονομάζεται "Less Words/More Music" (Λιγότερα Λόγια, Περισσότερη Μουσική") στην οποία όπως είναι προφανές θα λείπουν τα μακροσκελή κείμενα - κάποιες φορές τα ίδια τα κείμενα - από τις αναρτήσεις, δίνοντας χώρο στη μουσική. Υπάρχουν δύο βασικοί λόγοι για αυτή μας την απόφαση. Ο πρώτος είναι πως υπάρχει αφθονία μουσικού υλικού που "αναμένει" να αναρτηθεί στο blog και θα θέλαμε αυτό να πραγματοποιηθεί - άλλωστε αυτός είναι και ο σκοπός του blog. Ο δεύτερος λόγος είναι πως η αναζήτηση πληροφοριών και η συγγραφή των κειμένων είναι χρονοβόρα και απαιτεί ελεύθερο χρόνο ο οποίος είναι κάπως δυσεύρετος τελευταία. Οπότε αποφασίσαμε για άλμπουμ/κυκλοφορίες που είναι δύσκολο να βρεθούν περαιτέρω στοιχεία να ανεβαίνουν ταχέως μόνο και μόνο για να απολαύσετε και εσείς τη μουσική που περιμένει να ξεφύγει από την αφάνεια και τη λήθη.

ENG: Today we initiate the first themed post of "10.000 Eyes" given the clear title "Less Words/ More Music". Obviously it will contain less text, if no text at all, making more room for the music. Two reasons lead us to this: The first is that there's a plethora of ripped music "waiting" to be posted, and this is something we want to happen soon. The other reason is that finding information about certain bands/artists simply won't work, especially if there isn't any and if you consider writing too, then it's all too time-consuming. At which point we have decided for certain albums/releases to post them "fast track" for your pleasure. So, enjoy more music back from oblivion and obscurity!


1. Househearts: Counting Fifty Problems 7-Track e.p. [Self Released-1985]

Οι Househearts έρχονται από το Οχάϊο των Η.Π.Α. Στο εσώφυλλο του δίσκου αναφέρεται πως οι κύριες επιρροές του γκρούπ ήταν οι Television, Mission of Burma, Wire, Josef K και οι Joy Division. Υπάρχουν αρκετά κομμάτια τους που προκαλούν ενδιαφέρον όπως είναι το "Lighting Candles" με την χαρακτηριστική κιθάρα. Χίλια ευχαριστώ στον f@ΝdY που μας έδωσε το δίσκο για ψηφιοποίηση.
ENG: Househearts come from Ohio U.S.A. Inner sleeve indicates the main influences to be Television, Mission of Burma, Wire, Josef K and Joy Division. Οι I.E.P. (Immortal Errected Pop) κατάγονται από την Αυστρία, με ήχο new wave/post punk. Το ιδιαίτερο ύφος τους προκαλεί ενδιαφέρον, αλλά και η ίδια η μουσική τους είναι αρκετά ικανοποιητική. Με βάση το discogs αυτό το e.p είναι η πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία. Δυστυχώς, δεν έχουμε εντοπίσει το πρώτο μεγάλο άλμπουμ για να σχηματίσουμε καλύτερη εικόνα.
ENG: I.E.P. (Immortal Errected Pop) come from Austria and they are a new wave/post punk act. According to discogs this e.p. is their first release and it is quite interesting. Unfortunately we haven't located their first LP to form an opinion about them.

Οι Svart ήταν ένα βραχύβιο σχήμα από την Στοκχόλμη, Σουηδία. Πρόκειται για το μοναδικό τους μεγάλο άλμπουμ με αρκετές ενδιαφέρουσες new wave συνθέσεις και μοναδικά γυναικεία φωνητικά. Αυτό μας το παρείχε ο φίλος 'bX-59cppw' τον οποίο και ευχαριστούμε θερμά.
ENG: Svart were a short-lived act from Stockholm, Sweden. "Gryning" is their sole LP which contains several interesting new wave songs accompanied with unique female vocals. We cordially thank our friend 'bX-59cppw' for providing this rip.

Mecano: The Half Inch Universe [Completed Works 1978-1982] 2xCD 1996, Lazy Dog Records

Ίσως πολλοί να αναρωτηθούν "γιατί μια ανάρτηση για τους Mecano;" ή και "δεν είναι σχετικά αναγνωρίσιμοι ή και κάπως mainstream;" Η απάντηση βρίσκεται στην ίδια τη μουσική των Mecano και ιδιαίτερα σε αυτή την πρώτη περίοδο από το 1978 μέχρι το 1982 που περιλαμβάνεται στο διπλό cd του 1996 από την Θεσσαλονικιώτικη δισκογραφική Lazy Dog. Επίσης, θα έλεγα πως μια δευτερεύουσα απάντηση είναι πως το συγκεκριμένο cd παίζει εδώ και τρείς μήνες στο mp3 player μου και η μουσική τους για ακόμη μια φορά συντροφεύει τα καθημερινά μου μικρά ταξίδια. Να προσθέσω πως οι εκ πρώτης ακοής ακατάληπτοι στίχοι πλέον απέκτησαν νόημα. Οπότε έγινε επιτακτική ανάγκη να μοιραστώ αυτή την "επανανακάλυψη" του θρυλικού αυτού Ολλανδικού σχήματος.
Οι Mecano υπήρξαν κατά την πρώτη περίοδο τους πρωτοπόροι για την γενιά του post-punk καθώς εξερεύνησαν ενδελεχώς το συγκεκριμένο είδος αλλά και προχώρησαν πιο πέρα με τρόπους καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας που συμπεριλάμβαναν εκτός από τη μουσική, τη ζωγραφική καθώς και τη δημιουργία της ανεξάρτητης δισκογραφικής εταιρείας Torso. Έπιμελούνταν μόνοι τους τα καταπληκτικά artwork των δίσκων τους και επιπλέον μπήκαν στη διαδικασία να μάθουν να παίζουν νέα όργανα, κατ' αυτόν τον τρόπο διευρύνοντας τα μουσικά στεγανά μέσω πειραματισμών.
Έκτοτε κύλησε πολύς καιρός και από την χώρα των Mecano ξεπήδησαν πολλά σχήματα (και παράλληλα με αυτούς και μετά από αυτούς) κάποια από αυτά έχουν φιλοξενηθεί στις σελίδες των 10.000 Ματιών και άλλα που θα αναρτηθούν στο μέλλον. Η γένεση και η μετέπειτα πορεία των Mecano ήταν καθοριστική για την Ολλανδική και κατ' επέκταση την Ευρωπαϊκή ανεξάρτητη new wave/post punk σκηνή.
Ελπίζω να απολαύσετε τη συλλογή "The Half Inch Universe" η οποία δεν θα ήταν δυνατό να υπάρξει χωρίς τη συμβολή της Lazy Dog Records. Στις σαρώσεις περιέχονται οι στίχοι των τραγουδιών της περιόδου αλλά και ένα κείμενο-χρονολόγιο για το συγκρότημα και τις  τότε δραστηριότητες του που αξίζει να το διαβάσετε γιατί μας δίνει μια άποψη των Mecano που ίσως να μην γνωρίζαμε.

ENG: One might say "why post about Mecano now?", or "aren't they a mainstream band?" The answer lies in Mecano's music, most particularly that of the early years from 1978 to 1982. That music is compiled in a double cd issued in 1996 by Lazy Dog Records of Thessaloniki, Greece.
A secondary answer is that I've been listening to these songs on my mp3 player for the past three months. In addition, the lyrics that seemed unintelligible at first, they eventually made sense. All in all, it became a compulsion to share the re-discovery of this legendary Dutch band.
Mecano of the first period not only had been pioneers of the post punk generation, but they also took it further in various ways of artistic creativity including painting and the formation of the independent label Torso. They have created their own artwork for their records and learned to play new instruments in order to widen their music perception and experiment.
Since then, many bands have sprung out of the land of Mecano, some of them have been posted in our pages and others will be posted in the future. The birth of Mecano was determinant for the Dutch and European new wave/post punk scene ever since.
I hope you'll enjoy "The Half Inch Universe" double compilation which wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for Lazy Dog Records. I have included scans of the lyrics to the songs and a timeline-biography of Mecano and their activities out of the cd booklet. It's worth reading all that, there's always things to discover.

The Flowers of Romance: The Pleasure and the Pain LP 1993, Wipe Out Records

Κάπως αργοπορημένα για το 2014 επιστρέφουμε στους Flowers of Romance και στο δεύτερο ολοκληρωμένο άλμπουμ με τίτλο "The Pleasure and the Pain" κυκλοφορίας του 1993 (βγήκε αμέσως μετά από το εξαιρετικό "Love Means Death" e.p.), ξανά από την ανεξάρτητη Wipeout Records. Το δεύτερο άλμπουμ βρίσκει τους Flowers of Romance με αλλαγές μελών, αλλά και με ολοένα αυξανόμενη δυναμική παράγοντας ακόμα πιο ώριμες συνθέσεις. Φυσικά ο ιθύνων νούς Μιχάλης Πούγουνας φροντίζει για όλα τα παραπάνω και φυσικά το  αποτέλεσμα είναι και το αναμενόμενο.
Ακούγοντας ξανά αυτό το άλμπουμ μετά από καιρό, καταλήξαμε πως περιέχει κάποια από τα πιο αγαπημένα μας κομμάτια. Φαινομενικά η πρότερη δυναμική του "Dorian Grey" που έχει καταλαγιάσει, είναι πλέον μεταμφιεσμένη ως έμπνευση και ωριμότητα, δίνοντας βαρύτητα στη σύνθεση και τον στίχο με αποτέλεσμα να παγιώσει τους F.O.R. ως ένα από τα πιο αξιόλογα σχήματα της gothic rock μουσικής. Όσον αφορά τα ίδια τα τραγούδια, δεν είναι εύκολη η επιλογή των πιο επιφανών, απλούστατα για το λόγο πως το κάθε ένα είναι μοναδικό και δικαίως έχει τη θέση που του αξίζει στα αυλάκια του "The Pleasure and the Pain". Ξεκινώντας από το εκρηκτικό "Love Commandos" στο υπεραγαπημένο "The Ocean Floor", την μικρή παραμυθένια στορία του "Gerda and Kay", η πρώτη πλευρά καταλήγει στο ομώνυμο "The Pleasure and the Pain". Το "Who's Playing Jesus" δίνει μια πολιτική-υπαρξιακή χροιά, ενώ τα "Chryssalis", "The Royal Hunt of the Sun" και "Winter Waltz" μοιάζουν να μοιράζονται μια επικού τύπου μελαγχολική προσέγγιση. Τα τρία τελευταία κομμάτια θεωρούμε πως κατά κάποιο τρόπο μοιράζονται κοινή θεματολογία και πως ίσως εάν έλειπε κάποιο, θα αποδυνάμωνε την τεράστια δυναμική αυτού του δίσκου.
Απολαύστε το "The Pleasure and the Pain", ειλικρινά πρόκειται για έναν από τους πιο αξιόλογους δίσκους του είδους.

With a somewhat late kickstart for 2014 we have returned with our favourites, the Flowers of Romance's second full length LP entitled "The Pleasure and the Pain" released in 1993 (right after the exceptional "Love Means Death" e.p.) through Wipeout Records. Even if there are new members in the line-up, the band is more poweful and mature at its compositions. The mastermind is Mike Pougounas who takes care of the music and the lyrics towards a pleasurable outcome.
It's been a while since we've listened to this LP, but when it happened, we realised that it contained some of our most favourite songs. What seemed as the primal strengh that dominated in the "Dorian Grey" LP now has given way to mature inspiration with emphasis on perfect song writing, thus proving the Flowers of Romance to be one of the most notable bands of the gothic rock genre. As far as the songs themselves, it isn't easy to pick the best one, due to the fact that every song is unique and has its rightful position in "The Pleasure and the Pain". What to say about the eruptive "Love Commandos", the beloved "The Ocean Floor", the fairy tale story of "Gerda and Kay" and the same titled "The Pleasure and the Pain" that closes the first side. The other side starts with the political-existential theme of "Who's Playing Jesus", whereas "Chryssalis", "The Royal Hunt of the Sun" and "Winter Waltz" seem to share a common approach. We consider these three last songs to have similar themes and it would have weakened the album, if there was at least one track short. Hope you enjoy "The Pleasure and the Pain" as it is one of the most notable records of the kind.

Πέντε (5) συγκροτήματα σε κοινή συναυλία με σκοπό τη βοήθεια του Μητροπολιτικού Κοινωνικού Ιατρείου Ελληνικού

Η μουσική είναι αυτή που μας ενώνει αλλά αυτό δεν είναι τίποτα αν δε νοιαζόμαστε για την κοινωνία.

Μπορεί να ακούγεται ως άλλη μια κίνηση και όντως τέτοια είναι. Αυτό που δύναται και μπορεί να κάνει το ελληνικό underground το ποιεί με το χέρι στην καρδιά και χωρίς πολλούς φανφαρονισμούς.

Είχαμε διαπιστώσει πολλοί από εμάς (μουσικοί, ηχολήπτες, μουσικοί δημοσιογράφοι) ότι το Μητροπολιτικό Κοινωνικό Ιατρείο Ελληνικού είναι ένας φορέας που επιτελεί όχι μόνο αναγκαίο στην κοινωνία ρόλο αλλά κινείται και με μια παροιμιώδη θέληση και αυταπάρνηση για ανυστερόβουλη προσφορά προς την κοινωνία. Την ίδια στιγμή οι ελλείψεις στα φάρμακα είναι σε όλους γνωστές, γι αυτό και αποφασίσαμε μερικά (5 για την ακρίβεια) συγκροτήματα που έχουμε μεταξύ μας φιλικές και μουσικές σχέσεις να κάνουμε κάτι προς βοήθεια του φορέα.

Έτσι 5 μπάντες, οι Μαύρες Κωμωδίες, Stonemouth, New Zero God, The Illusion Fades και οι Penny Dreadful να κάνουμε μία συναυλία της οποίας τα έσοδα θα πάνε εξ ολοκλήρου στο Μητροπολιτικό Κοινωνικό Ιατρείο Ελληνικού για να αγοραστούν φάρμακα τα οποία θα διατεθούν για τις ανάγκες των ασθενών του Ιατρείου.

*Η συναυλία θα γίνει την Τετάρτη 29 Ιανουαρίου στο Holy Wood Stage (Λεωφ. Βουλιαγμένης 289, Αγ. Δημήτριος).

*Η τιμή του εισιτηρίου είναι 3 euro.

*Οι The Illusion Fades υπάρχουν από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 90 και έχουν συνολικά 7 επίσημους δίσκους, εκ των οποίων ο τελευταίος στη γερμανική Pandaimonium

* Oι Μαύρες Κωμωδίες ξεκίνησαν το 2010 από τον Μιχάλη Γαλαίο (πρώην Ερεβος, Lost Bodies) και στο ηχητικό rock/ψυχεδελικό τοπίο τους χρησιμοποιούν στίχους, μεταξύ άλλων, από Baudelaire, Rimbaud και Καζαντζάκη.

* Οι Penny Dreadful απηχούν τον Αμερικανικό Νότο αλλά και τον Αυστραλέζικο ήχο των 90s ενώ στους στίχους τους κυριαρχούν σκοτεινοί χαρακτήρες. Το ντεμπούτο τους με τίτλο Deadwood κυκλοφόρησε τον Οκτώβρη του 2013.

* Oι New Zero God σχηματίστηκαν το 2006 από πρώην μέλη των Flowers Of Romance και Nexus. Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει 3 full length δίσκους, ένα 7” (Destination Unknown) και τα digital singles Second Chance και The Night Calls Your Name (digital).

* Οι Stonemouth γεννήθηκαν το 2012. Το ιδιότυπο μουσικό κράμα των Stonemouth  αποτυπώνει βιώματα και απόηχους της έκρηξης των ηχοχρωμάτων του ‘80 και του ‘90.

Party Boys: No Aggro LP 1984, L' Invitation Au Suicide

Να τι θεωρούμε ένα ξεχωριστό τρόπο να αποχαιρετήσει κανείς το 2013! Το άλμπουμ "No Aggro" των Party Boys δεν έχει ανάγκη από πολλά λόγια, απλούστατα γιατί ο δίσκος αυτός μιλάει από μόνος του, αλλά και μέσω της φήμης του φυσικά. Ήταν υποχρέωσή μας να τον αναρτήσουμε για σας αφού μάλιστα είναι κάπως δύσκολο να εντοπιστεί αυτόν τον καιρό διαδικτυακά. Άλλωστε οι περισσότεροι από εσάς - και γιατί όχι όλοι; - πρόκειται να εκτιμήσετε δεόντως τη χειρονομία μας καθώς αυτό το θρυλικό άλμπουμ ουσιαστικά περιέχει την "πρώτη ύλη" από την οποία φτιάχτηκε μεγάλο μέρος της αμερικάνικης ανεξάρτητης rock σκηνής. Πέρα από το γεγονός πως οι Party Boys κατάγονται από το Los Angeles δεν θα πούμε περισσότερα, αφού στο διαδίκτυο θα βρείτε αρκετές πληροφορίες για αυτούς. Γεγονός είναι πως το άλμπουμ τους αυτό κυκλοφόρησε αρχικά το 1981 από την Independent Projects, η δε ψηφιοποίηση μας έγινε από την επανέκδοση της Γαλλικής L'Invitation Au Suicide που κυκλοφόρησε το 1984.
Απολαύστε ξανά τους γνώριμους χαοτικούς ρυθμούς: ό,τι ακούγεται σαν Joy Division, μα δεν είναι. Ό,τι μοιάζει με ακούσματα των Savage Republic, ό,τι θα μπορούσε να είναι Normil Hawaiians, όμως δεν είναι...
Πράγματι, το LP "No Aggro" ξεχειλίζει από κλασικά post punk διαμάντια και με το άκουσμά τους, όποια μουσικά ακούσματα έχετε γευτεί μέσω του blog μας θα ενωθούν μεμιάς.
Σας ευχαριστούμε που εμπιστεύεστε και επισκέπτεστε το 'Ten Thousand Eyes' όλα τα προηγούμενα χρόνια. Υποσχόμαστε περισσότερη μουσική στο 2014.

ENG: Here's what we consider a special way to bid 2013 a farewell! Party Boys' "No Aggro" LP needs no introduction simply because it is an album that speaks for itself and its reputation. It has been our obligation to post this legendary album for you since it's been a-hard-to-find on the net nowadays. Not to mention that most of you - and why not all of you - are going to appreciate the posting of "No Aggro" as it is full of that raw material that the American independent rock scene is made of. Let alone the fact that they came from the Los Angeles area, we aren't going to say much considering that there's lots of info about them on the net. Originally released on Independent Projects in 1981, our rip comes from the L'Invitation Au Suicide re-release of 1984.
Be happy to listen to that familiar chaotic rhythm once again, what sounds like Joy Division but it isn't, what has been the place where Savage Republic were nurtured, what could have been the Normil Hawaiians, yet it isn't...
Indeed, "No Aggro" is full of classic post punk, tribal driven gems and upon listening to this LP, most of the music you have already experienced through our blog, eventually will come together. Thank you all for trusting and visiting 'Ten Thousand Eyes' for all the past time - we promise you more music in 2014.

Dazibao: Les Musiques De La Honte LP 1987, V.I.S.A. Records

Οι Dazibao αποτελούν ένα ιδιόμορφο post punk σχήμα από τη Γαλλία με καταφανείς Αλγερινές καταβολές στη μουσική και τους στίχους τους. Ανεβάσαμε για σας το πρώτο ολοκληρωμένο LP με τίτλο "Les Musiques De La Honte" (The Music of Shame) το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 1987 από την ανεξάρτητη δισκογραφική VISA. Κύριο γνώρισμα των Dazibao είναι ο επιβλητικός ρυθμός (μπάσο/ντράμς) σε συνδυασμό με την καθαρή και παγερή κιθάρα, πλαισιωμένα με φωνητικά που σε στοιχειώνουν. Το άλμπουμ αποτελείται από δέκα τραγούδια που προσδίδουν ποικιλία, με τα καλύτερα από αυτά (κατά τη γνώμη μας) να είναι τα "Chameleon", "Allah El Watan El Malik", και "220 Days", χωρίς να υποτιμάμε τα υπόλοιπα. Την προσοχή μας επίσης τράβηξαν και δύο ακουστικά κομμάτια, τα "Rosy" και το εξαίσιο "Sherqui". Καλή σας ακρόαση!

ENG: Dazibao were a peculiar post punk formation from France with evident Algerian roots in their music and lyrics. For your plasure we have uploaded their first LP "Les Musiques De La Honte" (The Music of Shame) which was released in 1987 via the independent label VISA. Dazibao's main features are the imposing rhythm section combined with the freezing-clear cut guitar that frame some impressive haunting vocals. The album consists of ten music gems which prove the band's diversity. The best ones (to our opinion) are "Chameleon", "Allah El Watan El Malik", and "220 Days", not to underestimate the rest. There are also another two songs which grabbed out attention for their acoustic output, "Rosy" and the splendid "Sherqui". Have a good listening to this one!

Noise Promotion Company: Catalog LP 1988, Ano Kato Records

Όπως έχουμε πει για τους Θεσσαλονικιούς Noise Promotion Company, πρόκειται για ένα από τα πιο αξιόλογα συγκροτήματα της Ελληνικής new wave/post punk σκηνής της δεκαετίας του 80. Το Μάϊο που μας πέρασε ανεβάσαμε το πρώτο τους LP με τίτλο "Silence!", στο οποίο διακρίναμε μια ιδιαιτερότητα σε funk/70's rock/new wave ηχοχρώματα. Φαίνεται πως στο πρώτο άλμπουμ συναντήθηκαν όλες οι επιρροές που είχε το σχήμα των NPC. Σήμερα αναρτούμε το δεύτερο (και δυστυχώς, τελευταίο) LP τους με τίτλο "Catalog" το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε το 1988, επίσης από την Ano Kato Records.
To "Catalog" είναι σαφώς πιο ώριμο και πιο εστιασμένο όσον αφορά την μουσική κατεύθυνση και ξεκάθαρα κινείται σε new wave/post punk φόρμες. Πρωταγωνιστούν οι πάρα πολύ καλές κιθάρες που κυριολεκτικά "ζωγραφίζουν", χτίζοντας εξαίσιες post punk συνθέσεις όπως τα "Four Hundred Flags", "Fanny Mays", "Walking Bomb". Στα "Friends", "Marnie" και "Melt in the Crowd" η διάθεση γίνεται πιο σκοτεινή και μελαγχολική. Φυσικά, δεν λείπει και η προσήλωση στη funk και στα 70's rock όπως συμβαίνει με το χαρακτηριστικό "I Wanna Be Nothing". Συνολικά είναι ένα άριστο και άκρως απολαυστικό άλμπουμ κυρίως λόγω της ζωντάνιας και της ενέργειας των άριστων μουσικών αλλά και των εμπνευσμένων συνθέσεων. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: We have already mentioned Noise Promotion Company from Thessaloniki in a previous post as being one of the most noticeable bands of the greek new wave/post punk scene of the 80's. Back in May we posted the first of the two LPs entitled "Silence!" where we illustrated the band's persistence on funk, 70's rock related and new wave sounds. It appears that they had combined all their influences in that first LP. Today we are posting their second -and last- LP entitled "Catalog" which was released in 1988 through Ano Kato Records.
"Catalog" LP is clearly more mature than the preceding "Silence!" as it displays new wave and post punk music forms. There is great work invested in the guitar play that build exceptional compositions like "Four Hundred Flags", "Fanny Mays", "Walking Bomb" all in the post punk vein. In "Friends", "Marnie" and "Melt in the Crowd" there is a darker and moodier sound. Nevertheless, there's also an edge to the 70's funk as it shows in "I Wanna be Nothing". In total, "Catalog" is a pleasureable album due to its vivacity of the songs and the inspiration of the band. Have a good listening to this one.
