Less Words/More Music Issue #14

Άθελά μας τόσο καιρό φτιάχναμε φανταστικές αναρτήσεις στο μυαλό μας, ώσπου έγινε πραγματικότητα η δέκατη τέταρτη έκδοση του "Less Words/More Music" με τρείς εξαιρετικές συλλογές που βρέθηκαν στο δρόμο μας πρόσφατα.
ENG: Αll this time we've been inadvertently planning imaginary posts through introspective routes. The fourteenth issue of "Less Words, More Music" is a product of our imaginary posts, only this time it's real. Presented in the fourteenth issue are three outstanding compilations that we've recently come across.

1. Various/5 Miles to Midnight mLP [Pax Records-1981]
Αυτή τη συλλογή την είχαμε δεί μόνο στο μπλογκ "A Viable Commercial" αλλά αυτό ήταν πολύ καιρό πριν. Στο οπισθόφυλλο αναφέρει πως περιέχονται οι The Doormen και I Scream Brothers που έχουν από δύο συμμετοχές και οι Mortuary In Wax με μία. Επίσης αναφέρεται πως υπήρχε και τέταρτη συμμετοχή από τους I Suggested Darkness αλλά το κομμάτι τους δεν μπήκε τελικά στο δίσκο λόγω τεχνικών δυσκολιών. Πάντως τα τρία συγκροτήματα που θα ακούσετε (The Doormen, I Scream Brothers και Mortuary In Wax) έρχονται από το Sheffield και πειραματίζονται με την post punk. Δεν μπορεί να είναι σύμπτωση πως στα δύο κομμάτια των I Scream Brothers έχουν κάνει την παραγωγή οι Cabaret Voltaire. Απολαύστε λοιπόν μουσική που ακόμα ακούγεται φρέσκια.
ENG: This is a compilation that we've only seen posted on the "A Viable Commercial" blog, but that was a long time ago. However, there's some info on the mini album cover writing that it consists of five songs; The Doormen and I Scream Brothers have two songs each, whereas Mortuary in Wax has only one. There's also another band mentioned, called I Suggested Darkness but they didn't make it to the pressing of the compilation due to technical setbacks. The music comes from Sheffield and is experimental post punk and it can't be a coincidence that the two songs by I Scream Brothers were produced by Cabaret Voltaire. Enjoy some music that still sounds fresh.

2. Various/The Wonderful World of Glass (volume one) LP [Glass Records-1981] 

Αυτή είναι πασίγνωστη συλλογή και εδώ είναι ο πρώτος τόμος, με συγκροτήματα από τον κατάλογο της θρυλικής Glass Records. Έχει post punk, new wave, minimal synth, καθώς και αθάνατα πειραματικά σχήματα. Μην την προσπεράσετε επειδή πρόκειται για καλή ψηφιοποίηση από βινύλιο που έχει αρκετή φθορά.
ENG: This is the first volume of a well-known and classic compilation and it contains the early roster of the legendary Glass Records. There is post punk music, there's new wave, there's minimal synth as well as a few undying experimental acts. Don't miss out, since it is a nice rip despite originating from relatively worn media.

3. Various/Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks mLP [Abstract Sounds-1985]
Η συλλογή "Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks" μπορεί να μοιάζει λιγότερο σημαντική σε σχέση με τις προηγούμενες, αλλά στην πραγματικότητα είναι αρκετά ενδιαφέρουσα καθώς αποτελείται από ευρύ φάσμα μουσικής της δεκαετίας ΄80: post punk, anarcho punk, new wave, ακόμη και απαγγελία. Αν και ο δίσκος δεν κρατάει πάνω από 30 λεπτά, δεν είναι από τις συλλογές που ξεχνά κανείς.
ENG: Compared to the previously mentioned 80's releases, "Never Mind The Jacksons... Here's The Pollocks" might seem less essential, but indeed it's an appealing one as it comprises bands from a wide range 80's rock; post punk, anarcho punk, new wave, even spoken word. Even though the whole album doesn't really last more than 30 minutes, you won't forget it until after you've listened to it.

Here's the thirteenth issue of Less Words/More Music with four bands from the U.K., and one from Germany. You'll find all the music crammed in just one rar file for convenience. Have a good time!


1. Belfegore: Belfegore 12'' ep [Pure Freude-1983]
Για αρχή οι Belfegore, ένα post punk/gothic σχήμα από την Γερμανία οι οποίοι κυκλοφόρησαν δύο άλμπουμ και ορισμένα singles/eps. Το πρώτο LP "A Dog Is Born" (1983) σφύζει από ενδιαφέρουσες post punk συνθέσεις, ενώ το δεύτερο LP τους, το ομότιτλο "Belfegore" (1984), δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα πρωτότυπο καθώς έχει πιο εμπορικό προσανατολισμό. Εμείς όμως σήμερα ανεβάζουμε το πρώτο τους ep που επίσης έχει τον τίτλο "Belfegore" και κυκλοφόρησε το 1983 πριν από το δεύτερο LP. Το μουσικό ύφος του ep είναι πιο κοντά σε αυτό του "A Dog Is Born", δηλαδή σκοτεινό και εμπνευσμένο. Σε περίπτωση που δεν τους γνωρίζετε, ακούστε τους!
ENG: For starters, here's Belfegore, a German post punk/gothic band who released two LPs and a few singles/eps. The first LP "A Dog Is Born" (1983) bustles with experimental and bold songs, whereas the second LP "Belfegore" (1984) lacks originality as it is more commercial oriented. Today we're posting their first 12" ep, also entitled "Belfegore" which was released in 1983 prior to the second album. The style of the ep is closer to that of their first album; dark and inspired. In case you've never heard of them, go ahead and listen!

2. Look Back In Anger, Flowers 12'' ep [Criminal Damage Records-1984]
Οι Look Back in Anger είναι από την πόλη Waterlooville του Hampshire στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Πρόκειται για ένα σχήμα post punk/goth με γυναικεία φωνητικά κοντά στο ύφος των Twisted Nerve, των Death Cult και των Stunt Kites. Στη σύντομη καριέρα τους έβγαλαν το mini LP "Caprice" (1984) και ακόμη τρία singles/eps. Εμείς ανεβάζουμε το τελευταίο τους ep "Flowers" που απαρτίζεται από τρία εμβληματικά post punk τραγούδια. Στα blog "Systems of Romance" και στο "My Life's a Jigsaw" έχει σχετική ανάρτηση για το mini LP "Caprice". Καλή ακρόαση! 
ENG: Look Back in Anger come from the U.K. and more specifically Waterlooville a town in Hampshire. They were a post punk/goth band with female-fronted vocals similar to Twisted Nerve, Death Cult and Stunt Kites. Apparently, they were short-lived and they released the mini album "Caprice" (1984), as well as three more singles/eps. We're posting their last 12'' ep entitled "Flowers" which consists of three iconic post punk tracks. 3. DCL Locomotive, King Midas In Reverse 12'' ep [Reflex Records-1984]
Το ακρωνύμιο DCL αντιστοιχεί στα Dada Cravat Laboratory (Το ντανταϊστικό εργαστήρι των Cravats) και προφανώς πρόκειται για ένα project άμεσα σχετικό με το φοβερό σχήμα των Cravats, μάλιστα πριν από το μετασχηματισμό τους σε The Very Things. Πάντως το "King Midas In Reverse" είναι ένα δυναμικό ep με τέσσερα κομμάτια στο ύφος και τον ήχο των Cravats. Να αναφέρουμε πως το "King Midas In Reverse" είναι σύνθεση των Hollies και εδώ είναι διασκευή από τους DCL Locomotive. Καλά να περάσετε με τους DCL!
ENG: DCL stands for Dada Cravat Laboratory and they are obviously a band/project related to the great "jazz-punk" band The Cravats before their (trans)formation to The Very Things. "King Midas In Reverse" is a powerful four-song ep very similar to the sound of The Cravats. Let's not forget to mention that the center-piece track "King Midas In Reverse" is a Hollies cover. Have fun with DCL!

4. Into A Circle: Inside Out 12'' ep [Abstract Records-1985]
Οι Into A Circle είναι άλλο ένα new wave/post punk σχήμα από τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Αποτελείται από πρώην μέλη των Getting The Fear αλλά και των Southern Death Cult. Οι Into A Circle κυκλοφόρησαν ένα άλμπουμ και μερικά eps/singles στη σύντομη καριέρα τους. Το ep "Inside Out" ήταν το δεύτερο κατά χρονολογική σειρά. Ακούγοντάς το, συνειδητοποιεί κανείς πως ενώ το ομώνυμο κομμάτι είναι σε ύφος post punk/goth, τα υπόλοιπα κομμάτια έχουν μια αιθέρια -σχεδόν ποπ χροιά- με εμφανείς επιρροές από τα ψυχεδελικά 60's. Πιστεύουμε να σας αρέσουν!
ENG: Into A Circle is another new wave/post punk band from the U.K. The band consisted of former members of Getting The Fear and Southern Death Cult. (http://killyourpetpuppy.co.uk/news/getting-the-fear-demo-1984/). Into A Circle released an LP and some eps/singles during their short career. The "Inside Out" 12'' ep we're posting at present was their second one. While you listen to the ep, you realise how diverse their music is because the title track is quite post punkish, almost goth, whereas the rest of the songs have an ethereal poppish feel to them with a few 60's psychedelia influences. Hope you like them!

5. Arch Criminals: Hang 12'' e.p [Uberschall Records-1987]
Και οι Arch Criminals ήταν ένα βραχύβιο συγκρότημα από το Essex της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Αν και έβγαλαν μόνο το ep "Hang!" ήταν αρκετά δραστήριοι παίζοντας ζωντανά σχεδόν σε όλη την Ευρώπη, εμφανίστηκαν στο BBC για τον John Peel και γενικά έκαναν άπειρες πετυχημένες ζωντανές εμφανίσεις. Οι Arch Criminals είναι ένα άξιο σχήμα της post punk μουσικής που φτιάχνει τραγούδια με πρωτοτυπία και δυναμισμό. Απολαύστε τους!
ENG: Arch Criminals were also a short-lived band from Essex, U.K. Despite them having released only "Hang" 12'' ep, they toured around Europe, appeared on John Peel's show on BBC and had numerous other live appearances. They were definitely a worthy post punk outfit and the four songs of this sole release are distinctive for their originality and powerful rhythms. Enjoy!

Welcome to the twelfth issue of "Less Words/More Music". Today we've gathered a few post 12inch eps that we believe will appeal to you. Also, for your convenience, we have 'squeezed' the music into one compressed file. Therefore, you can have it by following any of the links below.


1. Ellery Bop: Fire In Reflection 12" ep [Desire-1983]
Οι Ellery Bop ήταν post punk/indie σχήμα από το Liverpool της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Πραγματικά δεν έχουμε βρεί πολλά για αυτούς, αλλά θα τους ακούσετε και θα βγάλετε τα συμπεράσματά σας. Στη σελίδα της wikipedia αναφέρει πως στις ζωντανές τους εμφανίσεις ήταν περισσότερο δραστήριοι και δυναμικοί. Χωρίς φυσικά να έχουμε προσωπική άποψη επ' αυτού, έχουμε μόνο το ep τους "Fire In Reflection" στο οποίο περιέχονται μερικά αξιοπρόσεκτα και 'ζωηρά' κομμάτια τους. Απολαύστε το!
ENG: Ellery Bop were a post punk/indie band from Liverpool, UK. Actually there isn't much info about them, but you can listen for yourselves what their sound was like. Wikipedia mentions that they sounded more energetic on stage. Not knowing whether that is a fact, "Fire In Reflection" ep contains a few notable and lively songs. Enjoy!

2. Bone Orchard: Princess Epilepsy 12" ep [Jungle-1985]
Οι Bone Orchard ήταν ένα βραχύβιο, post punk/gothic rock (batcave) σχήμα με θηλυκή παρουσία στα φωνητικά με καταγωγή από το Brighton της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας. Παρά τη αρκετά σύντομη δραστηριότητά τους από το 1983 έως το 1985, κατάφεραν να εδραιώσουν το μοναδικό ύφος τους αν και συχνά τους σύγκριναν με τους Birthday Party. Η πρώτη πλευρά του 12ιντσου ep "Princess Epilepsy" έχει έντονο, σκοτεινό και παθιασμένο ύφος. Ομοίως ενδιαφέρον είναι και το "Same Old Ball and Chain", ένα αργόσυρτο blues κομμάτι που καλύπτει την δεύτερη πλευρά που ίσως αποτελεί τη δική τους εκδοχή στο "Ball and Chain" της Big Mama Thornton. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Bone Orchard were a short-lived, female fronted, post punk/gothic rock (also labeled as 'batcave') band from Brighton, U.K. Despite their short term activity (1983-1985) they managed to establish a unique style for themselves even if they were often compared to Birthday Party. The first side of the 12" e.p. "Princess Epilepsy" sounds intense, dark and passionate too. Equally intriguing is the song "Same Old Ball and Chain", a slow blues-like song - perhaps their version of Big Mama Thornton's "Ball and Chain". Enjoy!

3. Furyo: Furioso 12" ep [Anagram-1984]
Οι Furyo ήταν μουσικό σχήμα από το Luton της Μ. Βρετανίας και δημιουργήθηκαν τους Steve Abbot και Steve Harle, πρώην μέλη των U.K. Decay. Αρχικά ονομαζόντουσαν Meat of Youth και αφού προσχώρησε και ο Albie de Luca από τους Gene Loves Jezebel, τότε μετονομάστηκαν σε Furyo. Το ενδιαφέρον με τους Furyo ήταν πως το ύφος τους ήταν αρκετά διαφορετικό από αυτό των U.K. Decay ή των Gene Loves Jezebel, ή οποιουδήποτε άλλου σχήματος που αναφέρεται ως 'batcave'. Ειδικότερα, είχαν μια έντεχνη και θεατρική προσέγγιση στη μουσική τους με πολλά κλασικά και μπαρόκ στοιχεία. Όσοι από εσάς δεν γνωρίζετε τους Furyo θα σας ξαφνιάσει το πόσο πολύ εξέλιξαν την post punk/gothic μουσική τους. Μην το χάσετε!
ENG: Furyo was a band from Luton, U.K. and was created by Steve Abbot and Steve Harle after U.K. Decay had stopped existing. At first they were called Meat of Youth, and after Albie de Luca from Gene Loves Jezebel joined the band, they renamed themselves Furyo. What's very interesting about Furyo is that their style was quite different from that of U.K. Decay or Gene Loves Jezebel or even any other 'batcave' band. More specifically, Furyo had an artistic and theatrical approach with many classical and baroque music elements. For those of you unfamiliar with the band, you'll be amazed how these musicians took their punk/post punk/gothic style lots of steps further. Definitely this one is not to be missed out. Enjoy!

4. Dustdevils: The Dropping Well 12" ep [Rouska-1987]
Οι Dustdevils ήταν ένα Νεοϋορκέζικο post punk/noise rock σχήμα με θηλυκή παρουσία στα φωνητικά με διάρκεια ζωής πάνω από μια δεκαετία. Μέλη των Dustdevils έχουν συνεργαστεί και με άλλα γνωστά σχήματα όπως οι Pavement και οι Sonic Youth. Εδώ φιλοξενούμε το πρώτο τους 12" ep με τίτλο "The Dropping Well" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1987 και αποτυπώνει τον χαρακτηριστικό τους θορυβώδη ήχο που επιτυγχάνεται με τη χρήση ενός τείχους παραμορφωμένης κιθάρας. Αν είστε ήδη εξοικειωμένοι με το συγκεκριμένο είδος, σίγουρα γνωρίζετε σε τι αναφερόμαστε. Εάν όμως όχι, τότε θα εκπλαγείτε ευχάριστα. Απολαύστε τους!
ENG: The Dustdevils were a female fronted post punk/noise rock band from in New York City, U.S. and they were active for more than a decade. Members of the Dustdevils have also worked with Pavement and Sonic Youth. In today's post there's "The Dropping Well", their first 12" ep, which was released in 1987 and illustrates their characteristic noisy sound utilising a wall of distorted guitar. Should you be familiar with their music, you know what we mean. If not, then you're in for a new experience. Enjoy!

In this elleventh issue of "Less Words/More Music" we've prepared a few seven inch rips for you. Due to the small size of the mp3 files, we have 'squeezed' them into one zip file. Therefore, you can have them by following any of the links below.


1. Coprus Delicti: The Gooze 7'' [T.O.N. Records-1985]
Σύμφωνα με το μπλόγκ phoenix hairpins, οι Corpus Delicti είναι ένα αμερικανικό post punk σχήμα με καταγωγή μάλλον από την Δυτική Ακτή και ίσως πιο συγκεκριμένα από το Hollywood. Το επτάϊντσο single "The Gooze" είναι στην πραγματικότητα μια διαφημιστική κυκλοφορία για το επόμενο άλμπουμ τους που τελικά δεν κυκλοφόρησε. Πριν από το "The Gooze" είχαν βγάλει το e.p. "The Joy Of Living" (το οποίο θα βρείτε στο μπλόγκ phoenix hairpins). Όπως και νά'χει, η μουσική των Corpus Delicti είναι καθαρόαιμη post punk και ελπίζουμε πως και τα δύο κομμάτια θα εκτιμηθούν δεόντως.
ENG: According to phoenix hairpins blog, Corpus Delicti were a U.S. post punk band, probably originating from the West Coast, specifically the Hollywood area. "The Gooze" 7'' is actually a promo release from a forthcoming LP which was never released. Prior to "The Gooze" they released an e.p. entitled "The Joy Of Living" available at phoenix hairpins blog No matter what, their sound is straightforward post punk and we hope that both songs will be greatly appreciated. Enjoy!

2. Cream 8 - The Crimson Dance 7'' e.p. [Resurrec.-1993]
Οι Cream 8 είναι ένα Γερμανικό goth rock σχήμα από την δεκαετία του 1990 και το ύφος τους είναι περίπου κοντά σε αυτό των Sisters Of Mercy της μετά-Wayne Hussey εποχής. Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από την wikipedia, οι Cream 8 εμπνεύστηκαν το όνομά τους από τη φανταστική νουβέλα "The Five Gates Of Hell" του Rupert Thomson, που εκδόθηκε το 1992. Στο βιβλίο περιγράφεται μια νεκροφόρα η οποία είχε πάνω της γραμμένη τη λέξη "Cream 8". Για την ιστορία, το συγκρότημα ξεκίνησε σαν προσωπικό project του Boris Brosowski αλλά μέχρι το 1997 είχαν πλέον γίνει κανονικό σχήμα. Ο ήχος τους βασίζεται στην κιθάρα και το synth με τα επιβλητικά φωνητικά του Brosowski να προσθέτουν στο θετικό αποτέλεσμα. Το επτάϊντσο e.p. "The Crimson Dance" είναι η πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία και αποτελείται από τέσσερα όμορφα gothic rock κομμάτια στο ύφος που προαναφέραμε. Τέλος, νομίζουμε πως ίσως οι Cream8 είναι ακόμη ενεργοί εν έτει 2016. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Cream 8 are a 1990's German goth rock band in the vein of The Sisters Of Mercy post Wayne Hussey era. According to wikipedia, the band inspired its name by Rupert Thomson's fiction novel "The Five Gates Of Hell" published in 1992. More specifically there was a hearse with the name Cream 8 described in the book. Cream 8 started as a personal project of Boris Brosowski and by 1997 they had become a full band. Their sound is mostly guitar and synth driven with Brosowski's imposing vocals to add effect and style. "The Crimson Dance" e.p. is their first release and comprises four beautiful gothic rock songs. We believe that you will appreciate their music. Last but not least, it is possible the band is still active in 2016. Enjoy!

3. Saturnalia: Inside The Devil's Circle 7'' and  Girl On The 8th Floor 7'' [Burning Worlds Records-1982]
Αν και δεν έχουμε βρεί απολύτως καμία πληροφορία για τους Saturnalia, μάς είναι προφανές πως πρόκειται για σχήμα της new wave/post punk/goth από τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Με τη βοήθεια των synth και των φωνητικών έχουν αποκτήσει χαρακτηριστικά σκοτεινό ήχο και ενώ η μουσική τους δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα πρωτοποριακή, το συγκρότημα φαίνεται να προσπαθεί να ξεχωρίσει. Συνεπώς, τα τραγούδια που περιέχονται στα δύο επτάϊντσα (που αποτελούν το σύνολο της δισκογραφίας τους) είναι απολαυστικά στο έπακρο. ENG: Apparently, Saturnalia were a new wave/post punk/goth band from the U.K. We haven't been able to locate any info about them online. They have a distinct dark sound aided by heavy synths and appropriate vocals. While their music isn't groundbreaking or innovating, they seem to have made a great effort to distinct themselves. Consequently, the songs comprising the two 7'' releases (their full discography) are quite enjoyable. "ForeignAffairs" ripped the two 7inches and took the photos, so we wholeheartedly thank him for sending us the data for posting. Enjoy!

Less Words/More Music Issue #10

Έφθασε και η δέκατη εκδοχή της ενότητας Less Words/More Music και είναι η πρώτη για το 2016. Συμπεριλαμβάνονται δύο μπάντες από τη Σουηδία, οι Laughing και οι Man Klan, αλλά και μία μπάντα από την Μεγάλη Βρετανία, οι M4Alice. Επίσης, έχουμε και τη μοναδική κυκλοφορία των Fur Bible, ενός σχήματος από τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες. Σε όλα τα προαναφερθέντα σχήματα ο κυρίαρχος ήχος είναι post punk/deathrock και gothic. Ορμήστε και απολαύστε τη μουσική.
Here's the tenth issue of Less Words/More Music and the first one for 2016. Included are two bands from Sweden, Laughing and Man Klan as well as two bands from the U.K. All of the above are in the post punk/deathrock and gothic genre. Dig in and enjoy.

1. Laughing: Kort Tid Av Lycka e.p. [S-Skivor-1984]
Οι Laughing είναι ένα post punk σχήμα από τη Σουηδία. Κατέστη απολύτως αδύνατο να εντοπίσουμε ο,τιδήποτε για αυτούς, επομένως όποια πληροφορία από τους αναγνώστες μας θα ήταν ευπρόσδεκτη. Άσχετα με αυτό, η μουσική τους είναι υπέροχη με σκοτεινά post punk -σχεδόν goth- τραγούδια. Ο τίτλος του μοναδικού τους δίσκου σημαίνει "Μια μικρή περίοδος ευτυχίας". Από όσο γνωρίζουμε δεν έχει αναρτηθεί ποτέ πριν. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Laughing are a post punk band from Sweden. It's been absolutely impossible to locate any data on them, so any feedback from readers is welcome. Despite the lack of trivial information, their music is awesome with dark post punk and goth style songs. Apparently, "Kort Tid Av Lycka" [means "Short Period of Happiness"] is their sole release and as far as we know, it has never been posted elsewhere. Enjoy!

2. Man Klan: Boys From This Territory e.p. [Wire Records-1985]
Οι Man Klan είναι ένα new wave/post punk και έρχονται επίσης από τη Σουηδία. Παρ' όλο που είναι σχετικά άγνωστοι, εντούτοις ο μοναδικός μεγάλος τους δίσκος "Flesh Machine" (1987) έχει αναρτηθεί στο μπλόγκ Systems of Romance. Γεγονός είναι ότι οι Man Klan έχουν γυναικεία φωνητικάκαι οι τίτλοι και οι στίχοι των δυναμικών τραγουδιών τους έχουν αμφίσημη σημασία. Eμείς αγαπάμε τη μουσική τους και πιστεύουμε πως και εσείς θα κάνετε το ίδιο. Απολαύστε τους.
ENG: Man Klan are another new wave/post punk band from Sweden. They are relatively obscure too, except for the fact that Their 1987 "Flesh Machine" LP is already posted on Systems of Romance. They were a female fronted band with strong songs and really ambiguous song titles and lyrics. The "Boys Of This Territory" e.p. which we're posting today was released two years prior to the aforementioned LP. All in all, we love their music and we think you will too. Enjoy!

3. M4Alice: Shiloh e.p. [Plastic Head Records-1988]
Οι  M4Alice είναι Βρετανικό σχήμα που παίζει σκοτεινή post punk. Φυσικά δεν έχουμε βρει τίποτα για αυτούς, όμως θεωρήσαμε πως πρέπει να αναρτηθεί η μουσική τους. Παλιότερα υπήρξε μια ανάρτηση για τους M4Alice στο thepostpunk80sunderground χωρίς επιπλέον πληροφορίες. Όπως και νά'χει, ο ήχος τους είναι σκοτεινός, παράξενος και κάποιες φορές τραχύς. Αφιερώστε λίγο χρόνο και ακούστε τους.
ENG: M4Alice are a British post punk/goth band of which we know nothing about, but we feel should be posted since it's not posted elsewhere. Well, thepostpunk80sunderground blog made a post about it a long time ago, but there wasn't much info there. Nevertheless, M4Alice's sound is dark and at times weirder and harsher. 4. Fur Bible: Fur Bible e.p. [New Rose-1985]
Οι Fur Bible ήταν ένα βραχύβιο σχήμα/project που δημιούργησε ο Kid Congo Powers μέλος των Gun Club, των Cramps, των Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, και της Patricia Morrisson, μέλος και αυτή των Gun Club, αλλά και των The Sisters of Mercy και των Damned. Αφού έκαναν αρκετές ζωντανές εμφανίσεις τελικά κυκλοφόρησαν το ομότιτλο e.p.. Η μουσική των Fur Bible δεν είναι πολύ διαφορετική από τη μουσική των προαναφερθέντων συγκροτημάτων, π.χ. έχουν ένα σκοτεινό rockabilly ύφος όπως των Cramps. Ο ίδιος ο Kid Congo Powers δίνει περισσότερες πληροφορίες για το συγκρότημα. Απολαύστε τους.
ENG: Fur Bible were a short lived band/project created by Kid Congo Powers (The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds) and Patricia Morrisson (The Gun Club, The Sisters of Mercy, The Damned) in 1985. 1. Niki Mono: Contradictions Are A Luxury LP [Antler Records-1989]
Πρώτα απ' όλα έχουμε την Niki Mono, μια Βελγίδα καλλιτέχνιδα γνωστή για τη συνεργασία της με τους Snowy Red, The Neon Judgement και τους The Aryan Aquarians. Επίσης, συμμετείχε και στο καταπληκτικό soundtrack "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven." Ο μοναδικός της ολοκληρωμένος δίσκος "Contradictions are A Luxury" αποτελείται από καταπληκικά αλλά και 'αντικρουόμενα' κομμάτια γεμάτα από διαφορετικές επιρροές και ήχους. Πρόκειται για έναν συνολικά έξοχο δίσκο που δυστυχώς δεν έχει αναρτηθεί στο παρελθόν. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: First of all here's Niki Mono, an Belgian artist who's known for working with various music acts such as Snowy Red, The Neon Judgement and The Aryan Aquarians. Also, she participated in the fantastic soundtrack release of "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven." Her sole full album "Contradictions are A Luxury", is an LP consisting of great and ironically contradictory songs. There are various sounds and influences alternating throughout this magnificent and so rarely posted album. Enjoy!

2. Katie Perks: Shine The Light LP [Plastic Head Records Ltd-1989]
Δεύτερη κατά σειρά είναι μια καλλιτέχνιδα της οποίας την ύπαρξη δεν γνωρίζαμε ώσπου συναντήσαμε αυτόν τον δεύτερο δίσκο της με τίτλο "Shine the Light". Προφανώς δεν έχουμε βρεί καμία πληροφορία για αυτήν, όμως υποθέτουμε πως κατάγεται από τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Η μουσική της είναι ένα σύμπλεγμα new wave και post punk και γενικά έναν δυναμικό ήχο. Επίσης, βρίσκουμε να υπάρχει και κάτι άλλο ξεχωριστό στη μουσική της που δεν μπορούμε να το προσδιορίσουμε ακριβώς. Για αυτή λοιπόν την μουσική ασάφεια αλλά και επειδή δεν έχει αναρτηθεί πουθενά αλλού στο παρελθόν μπαίνει στη σημερινή ανάρτηση. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Secondly, here's an artist whose existence we didn't know until we came across her second album "Shine the Light". Apparently, we haven't found any info at all, but we assume she's from the U.K. Her music is a combination of new wave and post punk influences resulting in a powerful outcome. Further than that, there's something different about her music that we can't really make out. For this ambiguity and for the fact that it hasn't been posted elsewhere it's here. Enjoy!

3. Chow Chow: Hide mLP [Antler Records-1984]
Τέλος, οι Chow Chow είναι άλλο ένα σχήμα από το Βέλγιο για το οποίο γνωρίζουμε ελάχιστα. Κυκλοφόρησαν το μίνι άλμπουμ "Hide" και ένα 12-ιντσο την ίδια χρονιά, το 1984 και μετά διέλυσαν. Αργότερα το 1987 μερικά μέλη των Chow Chow δημιούργησαν τους Won Ton Ton, ένα εμπορικό pop-new wave σχήμα. Πάντως, το "Hide" είναι new wave/post punk προδιαγραφών με χαρακτηριστική rhythm section, παρόμοια με πολλά συγκροτήματα που προέρχονται από την περιοχή του Βελγίου και των πέριξ χωρών. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Chow Chow is another Belgian act of which we know little about. They only released the miniLP "Hide" and a 12'' single in 1984 and then disbanded. Later in 1987, a couple of their members went on to create the pop-new wave band Won Ton Ton which had a more commercial outlook. Chow Chow's "Hide" miniLP is a new wave/post punk set of songs with a distinct rhythm section quite common in most bands that originated from Belgium and The Netherlands. Enjoy!

1. Greenfield Leisure: Those Far-Off Summers e.p. (Strange Orchestra Records-1982)

Οι Greenfield Leisure ήταν ένα new wave σχήμα από την περιοχή Orpington, ένα προάστιο του Λονδίνου. Είχαν μικρή δισκογραφία με δύο ep που περιλαμβάνει και το "Those Far-Off Summers". Επιπλέον συμμετείχαν και στη θρυλική συλλογή "East of Croydon" (1981). Και τα δύο αυτά ep ανέβηκαν στο blog DIE or DIY? με αρκετές πληροφορίες και για το συγκρότημα.
ENG: Greenfield Leisure was a new wave band from Orpington, a suburb of London. They had a rather short discography with two eps including "Those Far-Off Summers". In addition, they took part in the legendary "East of Croydon" compilation (1981). Both eps have also been posted on the DIE or DIY? blog with additional info on the band.

2. Bron Area: The Trees And The Villages LP (Glass Records-1983)
Οι Bron Area ήταν ένα διάσημο new wave σχήμα από το Coventry της επαρχίας West Midlands. Στις αρχές σχετιζόντουσαν με τους Eyeless In Gaza όπως μπορείτε να διαβάσετε σε αυτή τη βιογραφία των Bron Area στην ιστοσελίδα των Eyeless In Gaza! Βεβαίως οι Bron Area ξεχωρίζουν λόγω του ήρεμου και μεστού ήχου που τους διακρίνει. Επιπλέον, ο τίτλος του δίσκου "The Trees And The Villages" αλλά και τα ένδεκα τραγούδια που περιέχει υπονοούν μια προσέγγιση και μια προσήλωση στον απλοϊκό, επαρχιακό τρόπο ζωής. Ο δίσκος αυτός που κυκλοφόρησε στην θρυλική Glass Records αποτελεί και την μοναδική μεγάλη κυκλοφορία τους από μία έτσι κι αλλιώς μικρή δισκογραφία που επιπλέον αριθμεί δύο 7ιντσα και μια κασέτα. Τέλος, οι Bron Area εμφανίστηκαν και στην πρώτη μεγάλη συλλογή που έβγαλε η Glass Records το 1981 με τίτλο "Wonderful World of Glass Vol.1".
ENG: Bron Area was a famous new wave band from Coventry, West Midlands. Back in the days they were affiliated with Eyeless In Gaza as you can read in this biography. They are distinct for their mellow sound which is their own signature. The LP title "The Trees And The Villages" implies they celebrated the rural and simple life with simple and altogether beautiful songs. The album which was issued on Glass Records was their sole Long Play release out of a short discography consisting of another two 7inch singles and a cassette. Finally, Bron Area appeared on the "Wonderful World of Glass Vol.1" legendary compilation issued by Glass Records in 1981.

3. Red Harvest: Strange LP (Aftermath Records-1989)
Οι Red Harvest ήταν ένα new wave συγκρότημα από την περιοχή του Norwich στην Ανατολική Αγγλία. Αφού τελείωσαν το πανεπιστήμιο, τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος μετακόμισαν στο Λονδίνο και συνέχισαν να γράφουν μουσική. Πήραν το όνομα τους από τη πρώτη νουβέλα του Αμερικανού συγγραφέα Dashiell Hammet που εκδόθηκε το 1929. Κυκλοφόρησαν κάποια singles και δύο LP από τα οποία το "Strange" είναι το πρώτο. Στα περισσότερα τραγούδια του άλμπουμ έκανε παραγωγή και συμμετείχε ο Adrian Borland των Sound, ενώ στο κομμάτι "Heaven" έκανε παραγωγή ο Pete Shelley των Buzzcocks. ENG: Red Harvest was a new wave band from Norwich, East England. After finishing university, the band members moved to London to further explore music tastes. They took their name after "Red Harvest", U.S. author Dashiell Hammet’s first novel published in 1929. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashiell_Hammett) The band released two LPs and a few singles, and "Strange" LP is their first. Apparently, most of the album was produced by Adrian Borland of the Sound (he also played the guitar). Additionally, the song "Heaven" was produced by Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks. 4. Mute Drivers: Lighten Up Volume One LP (Irradiated Records-1987)
Δεν είμαστε βέβαιοι αν πρόκειται για αστείο, αλλά στη σελίδα τους στο discogs αναφέρει πως οι Mute Drivers όντως εργάστηκαν ως διανομείς για την διάσημη δισκογραφική Mute Records. Δεν έχουμε περαιτέρω στοιχεία, εκτός από τη σύνθεση του σχήματος, που αποτελείται από τους David Rogers και Steve Wright. Ασχετα με το αν τελικά απέκτησαν φήμη, κυκλοφόρησαν μια σειρά από άλμπουμ και singles από το 1987 έως το 1991. Ο ήχος τους είναι χαρακτηριστικός και βασίζεται στο επιθετικό μπάσο που συνεργάζεται άψογα με τα κρουστά χτίζοντας ένα απολαυστικό post punk άλμπουμ.
ENG: We're not sure if it's an in-band joke but discogs says they used to be one-time delivery drivers for the famous Mute label. As you realise, we don't have much info on this duo consisting of David Rogers and Steve Wright. Despite being not so well known, they released a few records from 1987 to 1991. Their sound is based on a distinct and aggressive bassline working perectly with the percussions resulting in an altogether enjoyable set of post punk songs.

Less Words/More Music Issue #7

Βρισκόμαστε στην έβδομη ενότητα του "Less Words/More Music" και ασχολούμαστε με διαφορετικούς ήχους, κυρίως προερχόμενους από τις Η.Π.Α. και την Αυστραλία. Έχουν περάσει περίπου δύο μήνες χωρίς καμία ανάρτηση. Έχουν υπάρξει πολλές αλλαγές τριγύρω από τότε. Διατηρούμε την ελπίδα αλλά και την επιφύλαξη πως οι αλλαγές στην Ελλάδα θα είναι για το καλύτερο.
We're on the seventh issue of Less Words/More Music and we're dealing with a variety of sounds, mainly from the U.S. and Australia. It's been a couple of months since we haven't posted anything. There have been a lot of changes around since our last post. We hope that the changes in Greece will be for the better despite any reservations we might have.


1. Clay Idols: Every Day Starts Like This mLP (Glass Records-1988)
Οι Clay Idols έρχονται από το Los Angeles (ΗΠΑ) και το μίνι LP "Every Day Starts Like This" αποτελεί την πρώτη τους κυκλοφορία στην Glass Records το 1988. Ο ήχος τους είναι εναλλακτικός με γλυκά και ακουστικά κομμάτια. Όμως εκτός από τις πληροφορίες που συνοδεύουν το δίσκο, δεν γνωρίζουμε τίποτε άλλο για τους Clay Idols.
ENG: The Clay Idols come from Los Angeles, U.S.A., and "Every Day Starts Like This" mLP is their first release on Glass Records in 1988. Their music is alternative rock style with mellow and acoustic songs. Apart from the Glass Records release notes, we haven't found anything else on the band.

2. The Shy Strangers: Indian Name mLP (Pravda Records-1986)
Άλλο ένα συγκρότημα από τα Μεσοδυτικά των Η.Π.Α, οι The Shy Strangers με μία και μοναδική κυκλοφορία στην Pravda Records αυτό το μίνι LP "Indian Name" του 1986. Το ύφος τους είναι εναλλακτικό και ελαφρώς νεο-ψυχεδελικό και θυμίζουν παλιούς R.E.M. Και πάλι, χωρίς άλλες πληροφορίες.
ENG: Here's another U.S. band from the Midwest. "Indian Name" is The Shy Strangers' sole release on Pravda Records. They have an alternative rock and neo-psychedelic outlook and they sound similar to early R.E.M. Again, no further information available. Enjoy.

3. Olympic Sideburns: I've Been Away 12'' (New Rose-1985)

Οι Olympic Sideburns αποτελούν ένα σημαντικό τμήμα της Αυστραλέζικης garage-punk σκηνής και έρχονται από την Μελβούρνη. Το 12 ιντσο "I've Been Away" δινόταν δωρεάν μαζί με το πρώτο ομώνυμο άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος. Η Γαλλική New Rose το κυκλοφόρησε ξεχωριστά το 1985. Επίσης, περιέχει και μια καταπληκτική διασκευή στο "7 And 7 Is" των Love.
ENG: The Olympic Sideburns comprise a seminal part of Australia's garage-punk rock scene and they come from Melbourne. "I've Been Away" twelve-inch single was given free with their first omonymous LP. The French label New Rose has released this 12'' separately in 1985. Includes a great cover on Love's "7 And 7 Is", too. Enjoy!

4. Vicious Kites: Sold mLP (Fire and Hope-1988)
Άλλη μία Αυστραλέζικη μπάντα για σήμερα, οι Vicious Kites που προέρχονται από την πόλη Brisbane και το στυλ τους είναι  new wave/post punk. Αφού πρώτα κυκλοφόρησαν δύο ενδιαφέροντα 7ιντσα, έβγαλαν και το μίνι άλμπουμ "Sold" to 1988. Συγκεκριμένα το "Sold" δεν αναφέρεται στο Discogs. Ευχαριστούμε τον φίλο "ForeignAffairs" που μας έδωσε το μίνι LP στην ψηφιακή του μορφή.
ENG: Another Australian band for today, Vicious Kites come from Brisbane and their style is new wave/post punk. They had already released two 7'' interesting singles by the time they released "Sold" mLP in 1988. Apparently, there's no info on Discogs about "Sold" mLP. Thanks to "ForeignAffairs", a friend of ours who sent it to us in digital form.

1. Pink Military: Blood & Lipstick 12'' e.p. (Eric's-1979)
Οι Pink Military ήταν βραχύβιο new wave/post punk σχήμα από το Liverpool της Αγγλίας. Το συγκρότημα δημιουργήθηκε το 1978 από την τραγουδίστρια των Big In Japan. Αρχικά είχαν κυκλοφορήσει το ζωντανό e.p. "Buddha Waking Disney Sleeping" και με ελαφρώς διαφορετικό όνομα (ως Pink Military Stand Alone). Στη συνέχεια και αφού σταθεροποίησαν το όνομά τους σε Pink Military, κυκλοφόρησαν το εξαιρετικό e.p. "Blood & Lipstick", και ακολούθησε το ολοκληρωμένο LP με τίτλο "Do Animals Believe In God?". Από τα δύο τελευταία επιλέξαμε να αναρτήσουμε το "Blood & Lipstick" το οποίο περιέχει κομμάτια γεμάτα με τη σπίθα της πρώιμης δημιουργίας, καθώς και πειραματισμούς. Καλό θα ήταν να προσθέσουμε πληροφοριακά πως μέσα από τους Pink Military ξεπήδησαν αρκετοί μουσικοί που αργότερα έγιναν γνωστοί, μεταξύ άλλων οι Tim Whitaker (Deaf School), Martin Dempsey (The Yachts/It's Immaterial), Chris Joyce (of The Durutti Column/Simply Red) και τον Budgie (The Slits/Siouxie & the Banshees). Αργότερα άλλαξαν το όνομα τους σε Pink Industry και κυκλοφόρησαν μια σειρά από άλμπουμ και singles.
ENG: Pink Military were a short-lived new wave/post punk band from Liverpool, England. They were formed in 1978 by Jayne Casey, the former singer of Big In Japan. At first they released a live e.p. entitled "Buddha Waking Disney Sleeping" under the name Pink Military Stand Alone. Subsequently, they changed their name to Pink Military and released "Blood & Lipstick" e.p. succeeded by a full length album entitled "Do Animals Believe In God?". We chose to post the "Blood & Lipstick" e.p. as it contains the early spark along with a couple more experimental tunes. We should also mention that Pink Military have included quite a few well-known musicians like Tim Whitaker (Deaf School), Martin Dempsey (The Yachts/It's Immaterial), Chris Joyce (of The Durutti Column/Simply Red) and Budgie (The Slits/Siouxie & the Banshees). Pink Military changed their name to Pink Industry and went on to release a few more albums.

2. Five or Six: Four from Five or Six 12'' e.p. (Cherry Red-1982)
Οι Five Or Six είναι από τα συγκροτήματα για τα οποία δεν βρίσκει κανείς πολλές πληροφορίες στο διαδίκτυο. Οι περισσότεροι τους ξέρουν ή τους αναφέρουν για τη συμμετοχή τους στην πασίγνωστη συλλογή "Pillows and Prayers", όμως στην πραγματικότητα οι Five Or Six παρέδωσαν αρκετά σημαντική και ενδιαφέρουσα μουσική στη μικρή διάρκεια ζωής τους. Τα δύο άλμπουμ και πλήθος singles/e.ps βγήκαν μεταξύ 1981 και 1982. Από αυτά θα αναρτήσουμε σήμερα το τελευταίο τους με τίτλο "Four From Five Or Six" το οποίο περιέχει καταπληκτικά κομμάτια. Μην το χάσετε!
ENG: Little info can be found on this experimental new wave/post punk group from U.K. Most of you should remember them from "Pillows and Prayers" compilation but Five Or Six have made some interesting and significant music throughout their short-lived existence. All releases including 2 LPs and a few singles and e.ps came out only a two-year period (1981-1982). Of those e.ps, the last one entitled "Four From Five Or Six" is the only one we can offer at the moment and it contains great music. Don't miss it!

3. The Legendary Pink Dots: Curious Guy 12'' e.p. (Play it Again Sam-1986)
Οι Legendary Pink Dots είναι από τα πιο γνωστά συγκροτήματα στο underground new wave/experimental rock. Φτιάχτηκαν από τους Edward Ka-Spel and Phil Knight στο Λονδίνο το 1980. Τέσσερα χρόνια αργότερα μετακόμισαν στο Άμστερνταμ και συνέχισαν να γράφουν μουσική εξερευνώντας νέους ήχους. Έκτοτε, έχουν κυκλοφορήσει πολλά άλμπουμ, έκαναν εκατοντάδες ζωντανές εμφανίσεις και ακόμη απέχουν από αυτό που αποκαλείται mainstream. Το 12'' e.p. "Curious Guy" βγήκε το 1986 από την ανεξάρτητη Play It Again Sam και είναι μία από τις πιο σημαντικές κυκλοφορίες τους που μετά από τόσα χρόνια εξακολουθεί και μας στοιχειώνει.
ENG: They are one of the most popular bands in the new wave/experimental rock underground. They were formed in London in 1980 by Edward Ka-Spel and Phil Knight. Four years later they moved to Amsterdam to further explore music paths. They've released tons of music, took part in hundreds of live shows but they're still away from the mainstream. "Curious Guy" 12'' released in 1986 through Play It Again Sam is one of those early original releases that maintain that haunting feeling.

4. Bonemen of Barumba: Driving the Bats Thru Jerusalem 12'' e.p. (Fever Records-1982)
Οι Bonemen of Barumba ήταν ένα βραχύβιο post punk συγκρότημα από το Chicago των Η.Π.Α. και δημιουργήθηκαν το 1980. Κυκλοφόρησαν δύο e.p. καθώς και ένα LP. Σας παρουσιάζουμε το δεύτερο e.p. με τον παράξενο τίτλο "Driving the Bats Thru Jerusalem" που βγήκε το 1982. Από τον ήχο τους καταλαβαίνει κανείς πως ενώ ήταν απόλυτα σοβαροί σε αυτό που έκαναν, το διασκέδαζαν αρκετά. Από τα κομμάτια του e.p. τα "Pity It Ain't" και "Thick Promise" τραβούν αμέσως την προσοχή, ενώ τα άλλα δύο "Talk Is Fat", "Toombah For Ronnie" θέλουν το χρόνο τους.

Of those two e.ps we are presenting you the second one, having the weird title "Driving the Bats Thru Jerusalem" issued in 1982. This is a band that was serious about their music but wanted to have fun, too. Less Words/More Music Issue #5

Οι παρατεταμένες καλοκαιρινές διακοπές αλλά και μια βλάβη στον Η/Υ μάς απέτρεψαν από το να αναρτήσουμε ο,τιδήποτε. Κάπως βιαστικά, σε αυτή την πέμπτη ενότητα του "Less Words/More Music" θα σας παρουσιάσουμε τρείς μπάντες από την Ολλανδία.
ENG: We need to do some catching up after extended summer vacation and PC breakdown. So we're presenting you with three Dutch bands on this 5th issue of "Less Words/More Music".


1. Agents of Decay: Searching for Pleasure 12" e.p. (Pudding Records-1985)
Οι Agents of Decay κατά πάσα πιθανότητα κατάγονται από την πόλη Volendam και έχουν κυκλοφορήσει μόνο αυτό το πολύ καλό e.p. Χωρίς να είναι κάτι το επαναστατικό από άποψη συνθέσεων, η μουσική τους είναι εξαιρετική και ρέει σε ένα πολύ όμορφο σύνολο πέντε υποδειγματικών new wave/post punk συνθέσεων. Ακούστε το οπωσδήποτε!
ENG: Agents of Decay most probably originate from a town called Volendam and this good e.p. is their sole release. Not being extremely revolutionary on musical terms, this is excellent and direct music that flows through a beautiful set of five exemplary new wave/post punk songs. Don't miss this one!

2. Kiem: Kiem LP (Plexus Holland-1984)
Οι Kiem είναι ένα βραχύβιο σχήμα από το Rotterdam. Σύμφωνα με το discogs το όνομα τους είναι ακρωνύμιο του "Klank Improvisatie Elektronische Muziek" (στα ελληνικά σημαίνει "Ηχητικός Αυτοσχεδιασμός Ηλεκτρονικής Μουσικής"). Όπως υποννοεί το όνομα, η μουσική τους αποτελείται από πειραματικούς αυτοσχεδιασμούς προς μια industrial κατεύθυνση με ψήγματα από new wave, rock, αλλά και jazz. Επίσης συναρπαστικό είναι πως ο ντράμερ (Cees Meurs) χρησιμοποιεί τα μεταλλικά απομεινάρια ενός ρυμουλκού πλοιαρίου ως τύμπανα. Μπορείτε να το φανταστείτε σε συνδυασμό με σαξόφωνο και φωνητικά; Αν όχι, ακούστε το. Επίσης, χωρίς να θέλουμε να συγκρίνουμε, γενικότερα δεν σας θυμίζουν κάτι από Einsturzende Neubauten; Ευκαιρία να το ανακαλύψετε λοιπόν.
ENG: Kiem are a short lived band from Rotterdam. According to info from discogs their name is an abbreviation of "Klank Improvisatie Elektronische Muziek" which means "Sound Improvisation Electronic Music". As their name implies, their style is improvisational and experimental and of a somehow industrial sounding fragments of new wave, rock, as well as jazz. It is also fascinating that the drummer (Cees Meurs) uses a metal-kit for drums which used to be part of a wrecked tow-boat. Can you imagine this alongside improvisational saxophone and random vocals? If not, then listen to it. Not to say they're alike, doesn't that sound a bit like Einsturzende Neubauten? Let's find out then!

3. Sammie America's Mam - Sammie America's Mam LP (Wereld Rekord-1983)
Οι Sammie America's Mam αναφέρονται στο discogs ως δημιούργημα του τραγουδιστή Tom America, και πως είναι σχήμα με συνεχείς αλλαγές στο όνομα και εκτεταμένη δισκογραφία. Πάντως, αυτό είναι το ομώνυμο υπό την ονομασία Sammie America's Mam. Φαίνεται πως κατάγονται από την πόλη Tilburg και η μουσική τους είναι σε ύφος new wave με αρκετά πειραματικά στοιχεία δημιουργώντας ένα σύνθετο και αρκετά ατμοσφαιρικό στυλ. Πρόκειται για ένα άλμπουμ που θέλαμε να ανεβάσουμε από καιρό καθώς είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μας, λόγω της παράξενης και ιδιότροπης ατμόσφαιρας που το διακατέχει και που πραγματικά το άκουσμα του συνεπαίρνει τον ακροατή.
ENG: The info about Sammie America's Mam on discogs says that it's a band from Tilburg and that the singer Tom America is a central figure. Anyway, Sammie America's Mam is merely a reincarnation of the original name of a band with a rather long discography. Apparently their music style is new wave with several experimental aspects indicating a complex and atmospherical sound. Not to mention that it is an album we meant to post a long time now as it is one of our favourites because of the moodiness and atmosphere it runs through and is really overwhelming.

Less Words/More Music Issue #4

1. Whipping Boy: Whipping Boy 12'' e.p. (Cheree Records-1990) 

Οι Whipping Boy έρχονται από το Δουβλίνο (Ιρλανδία) και πράγματι είναι το συγκρότημα που έκανε μεγάλη εμπορική επιτυχία με το single "We Don't Need Nobody Else" το 1995. Το e.p. που παρουσιάζουμε εδώ κυκλοφόρησε το 1990 και αποτυπώνει τις προφανείς επιρροές από τους Velvet Underground, τους Sonic Youth και τους The Fall. Στο ομώνυμο αυτό e.p. ο ήχος των Whipping Boy προσομοιάζει με ένα κιθαριστικό τείχος στο οποίο ενυπάρχουν διάσπαρτοι ψυχεδελικοί χρωματισμοί, οι οποίοι είναι κάπως πιο ακατέργαστοι σε σχέση με τους The Jesus And Mary Chain που είναι της ίδιας εποχής. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Irish band Whipping Boy come from Dublin and they are the very same group that made a success with the single "We Don't Need Nobody Else" in 1995. Despite that posterior success, the earlier e.p. we present today was released in 1990 and apparently shows how the band was heavily influenced by The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and The Fall. In the same titled e.p. the music of the W.B. seems like a guitar-wall-of-sound imprinted with scattered psychedelic configurations. Altogether, their sound is somewhat crude related to similar bands of the period such as The Jesus And Mary Chain. Enjoy!

2. Venus In Furs: Love Lies 12'' e.p. (Backs Records-1986)
Οι Venus In Furs είναι λίγο-πολύ γνωστοί στους οπαδούς της new wave/post punk αλλά και στους αναγνώστες των Δέκα Χιλιάδων Ματιών. Είναι το μουσικό όχημα  μέσω του οποίου οι Emery Times και Skot Lucy εξέφρασαν τις εκπληκτικές μουσικές τους ανησυχίες απαριθμώντας συνολικά πέντε ολοκληρωμένα άλμπουμ και αρκετά singles και e.ps. από 1983 έως 1990. Το κομμάτι "Love Lies" προέρχεται από το τρίτο τους LP "Real Moral Fibre" του 1986 και είναι ένα τυπικό δείγμα του ύφους των V.I.F. Για τους μη γνώστες, ο ήχος τους ακόμη και σε γρήγορους ρυθμούς είναι μελαγχολικός και υπνωτικός και σχεδόν εθιστικός. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Venus In Furs are well known among the fans of new wave/post punk and the readers of Ten Thousand Eyes. The main members of the band, Emery Times and Skot Lucy expressed their musical intellect through V.I.F., counting a total of five LP's and several singles and e.ps from 1983 to 1990. "Love Lies" is a typical song from V.I.F. and comes from the third album "Real Moral Fibre" of 1986. For those who aren't familiar with V.I.F., their sound is melancholic and hypnotic, almost addictive even at fast tempos. Enjoy!

3. The Wasp Factory: Bait 12'' e.p. (Midnight Music-1989)
Από τον πολυποίκιλο κατάλογο της βρετανικής Midnight Music έχουμε τους The Wasp Factory και το ιδιότροπο e.p. τους "Bait". Για τους The Wasp Factory δεν έχουμε βρει απολύτως καμία πληροφορία. Εικάζουμε πως είναι Βρετανοί και πως ενδεχομένως πήραν το όνομα τους από την ομότιτλη νουβέλα του -επίσης Βρετανού- Iain Banks που κυκλοφόρησε το 1984. Η μουσική πάντως των Wasp Factory είναι ένα είδος πειραματικής post punk.
ENG: Out of the varied roster of the british label Midnight Music here's The Wasp Factory and their cranky "Bait" e.p. We haven't unearthed any info on them. We guess they are British and most probably got their name after Iain Banks' same titled novel of 1984 release. Now for the band's music style, they experiment with post punk throughout. Enjoy!

Less Words/More Music Issue#3

1. Various/Eurowave (for Rednecks) LP (Parsley-1982)

Η συλλογή "Eurowave (for Rednecks)" δεν φαίνεται να έχει αναρτηθεί σε κάποιο blog ως τώρα. Αφού την ξεθάψαμε από ένα σωρό αρχεία που είχε ψηφιοποιήσει ο Unspeakable αρκετά χρόνια πριν, είπαμε πια να την ανεβάσουμε. Κυκλοφόρησε από την Parsley Records στα 1982 και περιέχει 13 εξαιρετικά new wave κομμάτια από γνωστά αλλά και άγνωστα συγκροτήματα του Βελγίου. Μεταξύ τους οι Arbeid Adelt!, Red Zebra, T.C. Matic και Luna Twist. Να περάσετε καλά.
ENG: "Eurowave (for Rednecks)" hasn't probably been posted before. We unearthed the files from Unspeakable's vault and here it is, posted at last! It was released on Parsley Records in 1982 and contains 13 excellent new wave songs from some bands we know a little about and others of whom we know nothing about. Among the familiar names are those of Arbeid Adelt!, Red Zebra, T.C. Matic and Luna Twist. Enjoy!

2. Various/Start Swimming LP (Stiff America-1981)
Η δεύτερη συλλογή για σήμερα με τίτλο "Start Swimming" είναι από την ηχογράφηση μιας πολλά υποσχόμενης ζωντανής εμφάνισης έξι Νεοϋορκέζικων συγκροτημάτων στο Λονδίνο στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 80. Η συναυλία αυτή έλαβε χώρα στο Rainbow Theatre τον Φεβρουάριο του 1981. Προφανώς δεν ήταν μία από τις καλύτερες εμφανίσεις και ένα από τα συγκροτήματα, οι Polyrock, δεν θέλησαν να συμπεριληφθούν σε αυτή την κυκλοφορία. Έτσι ο δίσκος περιέχει κομμάτια από τους Bongos, Raybeats, dB's, Bush Tetras και τους Fleshtones. Αρχικά η συλλογή είχε ανέβει στο blog "No More Forgotten Music" αλλά τώρα το link είναι ανενεργό. Επίσης, δείτε και την άποψη ενός από τα συγκροτήματα (dB's) για εκείνη την εμφάνιση. Καλή ακρόαση.
ENG: Today's second compilation bears the title "Start Swimming" and comes from a most promising live appearance of six bands from New York in London. The concert took place at the Rainbow Theater in February 1981. Apparently, it wasn't one of the best concerts and one of the bands, Polyrock, didn't want to get included in this release, so the album contains The Bongos, The Raybeats, The dB's, Bush Tetras and The Fleshtones. "No Longer Forgotten Music" had originally posted about this LP but now the link is inactive. Futhermore, check what one of the bands (The dB's) had to say about that particular concert in 1981. Have a good listening to this one!
