Σας ευχόμαστε καλή χρονιά. Είναι κρίμα που η πρώτη ανάρτηση θα είναι νεκρολογία δύο θρυλικών μουσικών που υπήρξαν σημεία αναφοράς της μουσικής από τα μέσα του 20ού αιώνα και μετά. Ίσως δεν χρειάζεται να αναφέρω πως και οι δύο τους ήταν το ίδιο σημαντικοί για την εξέλιξη της rock μουσικής τουλάχιστον.
Το 2015 μας άφησε με την απώλεια του Ian Fraser Kilmister (Lemmy) που έφυγε στις 28 Δεκεμβρίου αφήνοντας αυτόν τον κόσμο πιο φτωχό. Οι περισσότεροι θα τον θυμούνται για τα τραγούδια του στους Motorhead και άλλων σχημάτων που υπήρξε μέλος τους, αλλά και για το εμβληματικό παίξιμο στο μπάσσο και τα μοναδικά φωνητικά που εν μέρει καθόρισαν το σκληρό rock και το heavy metal από τότε.
Δυστυχώς και το 2016 ξεκίνησε με μία απώλεια. Ο David Bowie άφησε αυτή τη Γη στις 11 Ιανουαρίου. Ο David Bowie επηρρέασε τη σύγχρονη μουσική - εννοείται και τη μουσική που φιλοξενούμε σε αυτό το blog. Επηρρέασε τα περισσότερα είδη και υποείδη της rock μουσικής από το 1970 και μετά. Ήταν η αντίληψη του περί μουσικής δημιουργίας που καθόρισε και έδωσε μορφή στη μουσική όπως την καταννοούμε σήμερα. Είμαι πεπεισμένος πως η punk rock, η post punk και η new wave μουσική δεν θα υπήρχαν χωρίς τον David Bowie, ή τουλάχιστον δεν θα υπήρχαν με αυτή τη μορφή.

ENG: We wish a happy new year to you all. Too bad this first post is an obituary for two legendary musicians who have been landmarks of music ever since the second half of the 20th century. Needless to say that both were equally important for the development of rock music.
2015 left us with the loss of Ian Fraser Kilmister (Lemmy) who departed on December 28, leaving the wold a poorer place. Most fans of every genre of rock music will always remember his songs from Motorhead, among others. Needless to mention that the special way he played the bass and sang defined hard rock music and heavy metal ever since.
2016 kicked off with yet another loss; David Bowie left this Earth on January 11. Bowie's influence on most of contemporary rock music has been enormous - that includes the music that's been hosted here. He's influenced all genres and subgenres since the 1970's and on and his perspective defined and formed music as we know it today. I am certain that punk rock, post punk and new wave wouldn't have been without Bowie - at least not in the form we've known them.

The Phones: Two Hearts, Two Heads LP, 1982 Phones Records
[Αυτή η ανάρτηση αφιερώνεται στην Μαργαρίτα, στο τέλος μιας δύσκολης χρονιάς]
Απομένουν λίγες ημέρες από το τέλος του 2015 και θα θέλαμε να σας προσφέρουμε άλλο ένα ξεχασμένο διαμάντι της new wave/post punk σκηνής που περιμένει εδώ και αρκετό καιρό να αναρτηθεί.
Τα παραπάνω ήταν μια αρκετά γενική εισαγωγή στην ανάρτηση ενός άλμπουμ που πραγματικά ακούμε πάρα πολύ συχνά, το "Two Hearts, Two Heads" που κυκλοφόρησε από τους The Phones το 1982. Άν και αποφασίσαμε να γράψουμε κάτι για τους Phones, εντούτοις δεν γνωρίζουμε σχεδόν τίποτα για αυτό το σχετικά άγνωστο Ολλανδικό σχήμα. Όμως συνειδητοποιούμε πως δεν έχει προβληθεί ικανοποιητικά στο ίντερνετ. Είχε αναρτηθεί περίπου πέντε χρόνια πριν-τον Ιανουάριο του 2010 στο blog "A Viable Commercial" blogspot. Αν και γνωρίζουμε ότι ο σύνδεσμος εκεί είναι ακόμα ενεργός, αποφασίσαμε πως το "Two Hearts, Two Heads" χρειαζόταν μια πιο φρέσκια ματιά και προφανώς, πιο φρέσκια ψηφιοποίηση.
Η μουσική στα αυλάκια του δίσκου είναι βασικά new wave και post punk. Αυτό πρακτικά σημαίνει πως δεν πρόκειται μόνο για μουσική που είναι θεωρητικά απλή, αλλά είναι και ταυτόχρονα βαθιά συναισθηματική. Σε κανένα από τα εννέα τραγούδια που βρίσκονται εδώ δεν λείπει η πρωτοτυπία ή επαναλαμβάνει το ίδιο μοτίβο. Όλα τους λίγο-πολύ συνδυάζουν το ξεκάθαρο μουσικό ύφος και τους ανά την περίσταση διφορούμενους στίχους φτάνοντας σε ένα απολαυστικό αποτέλεσμα. Είναι τόσο απλό το να εντρυφήσει κανείς στην βελούδινη μελαγχολία των φωνητικών για να ανακαλύψει πως είναι σχεδόν θεϊκά. Επιπρόσθετα με κάθε νέο άκουσμα, το άλμπουμ αυτό θα γίνει από τα πλέον αγαπημένα σας ώσπου να φτάσει να γίνει η ύπαρξή του αναγκαία και ουσιαστική.
Θα ήταν μάλλον εύκολο να περιττολογούμε για αυτόν τον εξαιρετικό δίσκο για αρκετή ώρα και από αυτό και μόνο να καταλάβετε πως αξιολογούμε το "Two Hearts, Two Heads". Όμως αναφερόμενοι ξανά στον blogger goutroy, θα συμφωνήσουμε μαζί του μεταξύ των άλλων και στο ότι αυτός ο δίσκος είναι ακριβώς ο λόγος που δημιούργησε το (δικό του) blog για να μοιράζεται μουσική.

Only a few days remaining before the end of 2015, and we're treating you with yet another forgotten gem of the new wave/post punk scene. It's been waiting for a long time to be posted.
The above was a vague introduction for an album that we love to listen to quite often, the 1982 self-released "Two Hearts, Two Heads" by The Phones. Having decided to write about them, we still don't know much about this less known Dutch band, but we understand that it hasn't been properly promoted. It only appeared (as far as we know) on a post of "A Viable Commercial" blogspot in January 2010. Even though the link is still active, we've decided that "Two Hearts, Two Heads" needed a fresh look and obviously, a fresh rip.
The music inside the grooves of this LP is basically new wave and post punk; by nature that is not only simple in principle but also profoundly emotional. None of the 9 songs appearing here lacks originality or repeats itself as they are the combination of both straightforward music and equivocal lyrics aiming at an enjoyable outcome. It's as simple as that to delve into the velvety gloom of the vocals and discover that they're almost divine. More importantly, this album will be one of your favourites and will grow even better with every listen, until it becomes essential.
We could ramble on about this extraordinary album and thus let you know how much we adore it. We definitely agree with goutroy on many aspects concerning this LP, one of the most important being that this very LP "is exactly the type of album that I created this blog to share".

Jack Of All Trades: Just Before, Unfair Loss LP, 1995 Ikaros Music
Είναι ήδη Δεκέμβρης και εμείς σας παρουσιάζουμε το ολοκληρωμένο άλμπουμ των εκπληκτικών Jack of All Trades με τίτλο "Just Before Unfair Loss" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1995 από την Ikaros Music. Αν θυμάστε, η πρώτη ανάρτηση της χρονιάς αφορούσε πάλι τους Jack of All Trades και το ομώνυμο μίνι άλμπουμ.
Από μουσικής άποψης το LP είναι στο ίδιο ύφος με το μίνι άλμπουμ που προηγήθηκε, δηλαδή μιλάμε για απολαυστικές συνθέσεις που συνοδεύονται από εξίσου όμορφα αιθέρια φωνητικά. Επιπλέον, ο δίσκος περιέχει και μια διασκευή στο "Waiting for My Man" των Velvet Underground ξαθώς και στο "Another Time" των Pearls Before Swine.
Εδώ πρέπει να πούμε πως ο δίσκος αφιερώνεται στον Παναγιώτη Κυρίτση, κιθαρίστα του συγκροτήματος ο οποίος πέθανε προτού δει την κυκλοφορία αυτού του δίσκου. Συνέπεια αυτού αποτελεί το οτι κανένα από τα τραγούδια δεν έχει ηχογραφηθεί μετά το 1993. Απολαύστε λοιπόν αυτό το καταπληκτικό νεοψυχεδελικό δημιούργημα.

ENG: December is here and so are we, presenting the full length LP of the astonishing Greek band Jack of All Trades, entitled "Just Before Unfair Loss" released through Ikaros Music in 1995. If you recall, the very first post of 2015 was about their eponymous mini LP where we included a few things about the band as well.
In terms of music, the LP is in the same vein and style of it's predecessor; a few enjoyable compositions accompanied with equally beautiful ethereal vocals. What's more, it includes two well known covers; Velvet Underground's "Waiting for My Man" and Pearls Before Swine's "Another Time".
Here is the place to mention that the album is dedicated to Panagiotis Kyritsis, the guitarist of the band who died before seeing this LP released. As a consequence, none of the songs comprising this album has been recorded later than 1993. Enjoy listening to this great new-psychedelic opus!

No Corridor: Chiaroscuro e.p., 1986 + The Backlash e.p., 1990 both on Ai! Records
Το συγκρότημα της σημερινής ανάρτησης λέγεται No Corridor, παίζουν post punk και κατάγονται από την Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Δυστυχώς δεν έχουμε καμία πληροφορία για το παρελθόν των No Corridor, παρά μόνο ότι επανενώθηκαν το 2011 και από τότε κάνουν ζωντανές εμφανίσεις.
Η δισκογραφία τους απαρτίζεται από δύο κυκλοφορίες, δύο e.p., το πρώτο που είναι και το πιο έντονο σε ύφος ονομάζεται "Chiaroscuro" και βγήκε το 1986. Το δεύτερο e.p. ονομάζεται "The Backlash" το οποίο βγήκε το 1990 και ακούγεται πιο ώριμο και μεστό. Όπως και υποννοεί ο όρος "Chiaroscuro", πράγματι η μουσική των No Corridor περιέχει αντιθέσεις όσον αφορά τη διάθεση και το ύφος των συνθέσεων, άλλοτε σε πιο φωτεινά και άλλοτε πιο σκοτεινά ηχοχρώματα για να πετύχουν την επιθυμητή ατμόσφαιρα. Τέλος, ευχαριστούμε τον φίλο "Foreign Affairs" που μας παρείχε το e.p. "The Backlash" σε ψηφιακή μορφή.

Blue China: Tomorrow Never Knows 12'' e.p. compilation, 1982 Electric Unicorn
Στη σημερινή ανάρτηση έχουμε ένα Ελβετικό new wave σχήμα, τους Blue China και μια 12'' συλλογή τους υπό τον τίτλο "Tomorrow Never Knows" που κυκλοφόρησε το 1982 από την Electric Unicorn. Είναι προφανές πως το ομώνυμο κομμάτι είναι διασκευή στο πασίγνωστο κομμάτι των Beatles και μάλιστα αρκετά καλή. Επίσης δείχνει και την τάση του συγκροτήματος για πειραματισμούς, όπως για παράδειγμα τα παραποιημένα φωνητικά και οι παραμορφωμένοι ήχοι που αποδίδουν τελικά το προσωπικό τους ύφος.
Σύμφωνα με την ιστοσελίδα definitiv-zuerich.ch στην οποία αναφέρεται κάπως εκτενέστερα η δισκογραφία τους και άλλες πληροφορίες, οι Blue China ήταν το μοναδικό σχήμα της Ζυρίχης που ξεπήδησε από την Πλουραλιστική Εκκλησία (προτεσταντικό κίνημα). Επιπλέον, η μουσική τους ήταν το προϊόν εντατικών σπουδών πάνω στην μοντέρνα μουσική αλλά και διορατικότητα πάνω στην παραδοσιακή μουσική. Φαίνεται πως πρώτο λόγο σε όλα αυτά είχε ο Rudi Dietrich, ιδρυτής και κεντρική μορφή του σχήματος. ENG: In today's post we have a Swiss new wave band called Blue China and their 12'' compilation entitled "Tomorrow Never Knows" issued on the Electric Unicorn label in 1982. Apparently, the title track is a Beatles cover and it is wonderfully done. In addition, it shows the band's preference towards experimentations; muffled vocals and distorted sounds from known instruments seem to landmark their unique style. According to definitiv-zuerich.ch, Blue China were the only band from Zurich that came out of the Pluralist Church. All the more, they were the product of intensive studies on pop music and visionary folk music. The founder of the group Rudi Dietrich must've played a major role in forming the band's style. We hope you'll discover and enjoy the music of this unique Swiss band. Have a good listening to it!

The Revenge: Wartime LP, 1985 Solide Plaque/Play It Again Sam & Sweet And Sour LP, 1987 Solide Plaque
Η ανάρτηση αυτής της εβδομάδας περιλαμβάνει μια Βελγική μπάντα, τους Revenge, και τα δύο τους άλμπουμ "Wartime" (1985) και "Sweet and Sour" (1987). Το συγκρότημα έτυχε της προσοχής του Jean-Jacques Burnel των Stranglers που έκανε την παραγωγή και στα δύο άλμπουμ. Επίσης, άλλο ένα μέλος των Stranglers, ο κημπορντίστας Dave Greenfield, συμμετείχε στις ηχογραφήσεις και των δύο δίσκων.

ENG: This week's post features a Belgian band called The Revenge and it includes two releases; "Wartime" LP issued in 1985, and "Sweet and Sour" LP issued in 1987. Both releases were produced by Jean-Jacques Burnel of The Stranglers. Also, Dave Greenfield (another Stranglers member) assisted with his keyboard playing in both albums.
The Revenge play a garage style post punk and obviously this was aided by the presence of the two members from The Stranglers. Furthermore, "Wartime" as is the earliest album of the two has got rough and raw songs, whereas "Sweet And Sour" is mellower and adds psychedelic themes. Πρώτα απ' όλα έχουμε την Niki Mono, μια Βελγίδα καλλιτέχνιδα γνωστή για τη συνεργασία της με τους Snowy Red, The Neon Judgement και τους The Aryan Aquarians. Επίσης, συμμετείχε και στο καταπληκτικό soundtrack "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven." Ο μοναδικός της ολοκληρωμένος δίσκος "Contradictions are A Luxury" αποτελείται από καταπληκικά αλλά και 'αντικρουόμενα' κομμάτια γεμάτα από διαφορετικές επιρροές και ήχους. Πρόκειται για έναν συνολικά έξοχο δίσκο που δυστυχώς δεν έχει αναρτηθεί στο παρελθόν. Καλή ακρόαση!

Also, she participated in the fantastic soundtrack release of "Fuck Your Dreams, This Is Heaven." Her sole full album "Contradictions are A Luxury", is an LP consisting of great and ironically contradictory songs. Προφανώς δεν έχουμε βρεί καμία πληροφορία για αυτήν, όμως υποθέτουμε πως κατάγεται από τη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Η μουσική της είναι ένα σύμπλεγμα new wave και post punk και γενικά έναν δυναμικό ήχο. Επίσης, βρίσκουμε να υπάρχει και κάτι άλλο ξεχωριστό στη μουσική της που δεν μπορούμε να το προσδιορίσουμε ακριβώς. Για αυτή λοιπόν την μουσική ασάφεια αλλά και επειδή δεν έχει αναρτηθεί πουθενά αλλού στο παρελθόν μπαίνει στη σημερινή ανάρτηση. Καλή ακρόαση!
ENG: Secondly, here's an artist whose existence we didn't know until we came across her second album "Shine the Light". Apparently, we haven't found any info at all, but we assume she's from the U.K. Her music is a combination of new wave and post punk influences resulting in a powerful outcome. Further than that, there's something different about her music that we can't really make out. For this ambiguity and for the fact that it hasn't been posted elsewhere it's here. Enjoy!

Αργότερα το 1987 μερικά μέλη των Chow Chow δημιούργησαν τους Won Ton Ton, ένα εμπορικό pop-new wave σχήμα. Πάντως, το "Hide" είναι new wave/post punk προδιαγραφών με χαρακτηριστική rhythm section, παρόμοια με πολλά συγκροτήματα που προέρχονται από την περιοχή του Βελγίου και των πέριξ χωρών. Καλή ακρόαση!

Later in 1987, a couple of their members went on to create the pop-new wave band Won Ton Ton which had a more commercial outlook. Chow Chow's "Hide" miniLP is a new wave/post punk set of songs with a distinct rhythm section quite common in most bands that originated from Belgium and The Netherlands. Enjoy!

Οι Greenfield Leisure ήταν ένα new wave σχήμα από την περιοχή Orpington, ένα προάστιο του Λονδίνου. Είχαν μικρή δισκογραφία με δύο ep που περιλαμβάνει και το "Those Far-Off Summers". Επιπλέον συμμετείχαν και στη θρυλική συλλογή "East of Croydon" (1981). Και τα δύο αυτά ep ανέβηκαν στο blog DIE or DIY? με αρκετές πληροφορίες και για το συγκρότημα.

Βεβαίως οι Bron Area ξεχωρίζουν λόγω του ήρεμου και μεστού ήχου που τους διακρίνει. Αφού τελείωσαν το πανεπιστήμιο, τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος μετακόμισαν στο Λονδίνο και συνέχισαν να γράφουν μουσική. Πήραν το όνομα τους από τη πρώτη νουβέλα του Αμερικανού συγγραφέα Dashiell Hammet που εκδόθηκε το 1929. Κυκλοφόρησαν κάποια singles και δύο LP από τα οποία το "Strange" είναι το πρώτο. Στα περισσότερα τραγούδια του άλμπουμ έκανε παραγωγή και συμμετείχε ο Adrian Borland των Sound, ενώ στο κομμάτι "Heaven" έκανε παραγωγή ο Pete Shelley των Buzzcocks. They took their name after "Red Harvest", U.S. author Dashiell Hammet’s first novel published in 1929. 4. Mute Drivers: Lighten Up Volume One LP (Irradiated Records-1987)
Δεν είμαστε βέβαιοι αν πρόκειται για αστείο, αλλά στη σελίδα τους στο discogs αναφέρει πως οι Mute Drivers όντως εργάστηκαν ως διανομείς για την διάσημη δισκογραφική Mute Records. Δεν έχουμε περαιτέρω στοιχεία, εκτός από τη σύνθεση του σχήματος, που αποτελείται από τους David Rogers και Steve Wright. As you realise, we don't have much info on this duo consisting of David Rogers and Steve Wright. Despite being not so well known, they released a few records from 1987 to 1991. Their sound is based on a distinct and aggressive bassline working perectly with the percussions resulting in an altogether enjoyable set of post punk songs.

Δεν έχουμε περαιτέρω στοιχεία, εκτός από τη σύνθεση του σχήματος, που αποτελείται από τους David Rogers και Steve Wright. Fourwaycross: Fourwaycross LP, 1988 Nate Starkman & Son
Στο παρελθόν, είχαμε αναρτήσει κάποια άλμπουμ από post punk σχήματα της Δυτικής Ακτής των Η.Π.Α., όπως τους Sleepers και τους BPeople και γνωρίζουμε καλά τη σημασία της ύπαρξής τους στο παγκόσμιο μουσικό γίγνεσθαι. Καιρό τώρα θέλαμε να ανεβάσουμε τους Fourwaycross και επιτέλους το κάναμε. Και για να είμαστε πιο συγκεκριμένοι, η σημερινή ανάρτηση αφορά την πρώτη ομότιτλη κυκλοφορία τους, η οποία αρχικά εμφανίστηκε σε κασέτα το 1985 από τη δική τους δισκογραφική, Motiv Communications και επανακυκλοφόρησε το 1988 σε βινύλιο από την Nate Starkman & Son.
Το εξαιρετικό αυτό ντεμπούτο αποτελείται από οκτώ κομμάτια διανθισμένα με όργανα και μελωδίες που δεν έχουμε συνηθίσει στην post punk όπως για παράδειγμα το τσέλο που ακούγεται στο εισαγωγικό κομμάτι και μας προϊδεάζει για τη συνέχεια. Επιπλέον, το φλάουτο διατρέχει έξυπνα τις νευρικές post punk γραμμές και εμπλουτίζει τις συνθέσεις, δίνοντας μια άλλη προοπτική. Αυτοί οι πειραματισμοί έχουν όντως νόημα αν σκεφτεί κανείς πως από συνθετικής άποψης οι Fourwaycross δεν ήταν ποτέ στάσιμοι και διαρκώς άλλαζαν τον ήχο τους από άλμπουμ σε άλμπουμ.. Σας παρακινούμε να ακούσετε και τις επόμενες ενδιαφέρουσες κυκλοφορίες τους.

We have always wanted to post something on Fourwaycross and finally we have. Getting into the point, today's blogspost is about Fourwaycross' first same-titled LP. Initially it was released on tape in 1985 on their own label Motiv Communications, and was reissued in 1988 on Nate Starkman & Son.
This exceptional debut is full of songs adorned with the aid of instruments and tunes we haven't been accustomed to in post punk music. The cello on the introductory track sets the mood up for what comes next. In a few songs there's the flute enriching and blending into the edgy post punk compositions. Experimentations like these actually make sense if you take in account that Fourwaycross kept evolving their music constantly in everything they did from then on. We urge you to listen to their albums after this one.

Μέσα στα πέντε χρόνια που λειτουργούμε το blog, σκεφτήκαμε αρκετές φορές να μνημονεύσουμε τον Ian Kevin Curtis (1957-1980) ανεβάζοντας μια ανάρτηση, σχεδόν ο,τιδήποτε. Πράγματι το πράξαμε μία φορά, αν και είναι ήδη φανερός ο θαυμασμός στο πρόσωπο του "ιδανικού αυτόχειρα" κάθε φορά που παρουσιάζουμε τη μουσική άλλων παρόμοιων καλλιτεχνών που -αναμφίβολα- επηρρεάστηκαν από τη δουλειά των Joy Division. Όμως ο Ian Curtis ως τραγουδιστής και στιχουργός τους ήταν μια εξέχουσα περίπτωση και χωρίς αυτόν οι J.D. ίσως να μην ήταν όπως τους γνωρίσαμε, ή και να μην υπήρχαν καθόλου. Αυτός όπως και ο Jim Morrisson έζησαν "κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού" ("Possessed by a fury that burns from inside"). Ο πρόωρος θάνατος του τόν έκανε ήρωα στα μάτια κάθε έφηβου και έφηβης που ψιθύρισε, τραγούδησε τους στίχους που συνεχίζουν και θα συνεχίσουν να στοιχειώνουν τις ζωές μας.
Ο Ian Curtis ανέβηκε πρόωρα στο πάνθεον της αθανασίας για να μείνει εκεί για πάντα, μέσα από τα "The Eternal", "Decades", "Twenty-Four Hours", "Disorder", "Atmosphere", και πολλά άλλα τραγούδια, άφθαρτα στο διάβα του καιρού γιατί αφηγούνται βαθιά ανθρώπινες ιστορίες και όχι τον αυτοκτονικό παροξυσμό ενός επιληπτικού όπως κάποιοι υποστηρίζουν. Η καινοτόμος μουσική των J.D. και οι προσωπικοί στίχοι του Curtis θα είναι παντοτινά μαζί μας, κυρίως μέσω των μουσικών στους οποίους επέδρασαν άμεσα τα παραπάνω. Τέλος, υπάρχουν και αυτοί που διασκεύασαν μερικά από τα τραγούδια, κάποια από αυτά με εξαιρετικά καλό αποτέλεσμα.
Στην προηγούμενη ανάρτησή μας για τον Ian Curtis ανεβάσαμε μια συλλογή με διασκευές από Ιταλικά συγκροτήματα, η οποία τότε "κατέβηκε" κάπως απότομα (τώρα όμως την ανεβάσαμε ξανά). Σήμερα, ανεβάζουμε άλλη μία συλλογή με διασκευές από δώδεκα συγκροτήματα, αυτή τη φορά από τη Νορβηγία. Ανάμεσά τους βρίσκονται και κάποια αναγνωρίσιμα σχήματα όπως οι Beyond Dawn και οι Theatre of Tragedy που δίνουν τη δική τους ενδιαφέρουσα εκδοχή στις συνθέσεις των Joy Division. Καλή ακρόαση.

ENG: Running this blog for the past five years, it has been our intent to mention Ian Kevin Curtis (1957-1980) in a relevant post. Indeed, we have done this once. Nevertheless, our admiration towards such an outstanding "ideal suicide" cannot be subtle even when we post about similar artists who have undoubtedly been influenced by Joy Division. Ian Curtis as J.D's lead singer and lyricist was an exceptional figure; Joy Division may not have been the same without him, or they may not have been at all. He lived his short life like Jim Morrisson, true to his own spirit (Kata ton Daimona Eaftou/"Possessed by a fury that burns from inside"). Curtis' premature passing turned him into a hero for lots of people, mostlly adolescents; it is possible they have whispered or sung Curtis' haunting verses sometime in their life. Needless to say, these lyrics will keep on "haunting" our lives.
Ian Curtis rose up the pantheon of immortality to stay there forever; songs like "The Eternal", "Decades", "Twenty-Four Hours", "Disorder", "Atmosphere" and others witness that. These songs will remain timeless because the lyrics narrate true human tales and emotions and not the suicidal fits of an epileptic man, as some people argue.
Curtis' verses and Joy Division's novel music will always be here. Ever since the band's rename to New Order, there have been numerous musicians who were influenced by them. Also, there have been others who have covered J.D's songs with a few being successful at doing that.
On that previous post on Ian Curtis we had uploaded a compilation made of Italian artists who covered some Joy Division songs. You know that the link didn't stay up for too long-but now it's back on. Today, we have another Joy Division related compilation, this time including twelve bands from Norway. Some of them like Beyond Dawn and Theatre of Tragedy are better known. Despite fame or success, these bands transmit their own interesting versions of (now) classic Joy Division songs. Enjoy.

Thanasis Zlatanos: Datura LP, 1993 Graffiti
Όπως είχαμε υποσχεθεί αρκετούς μήνες πριν, ετοιμάσαμε και το δεύτερο δίσκο του Θανάση Ζλατάνου με τον τίτλο "Datura". Το άλμπουμ κυκλοφόρησε το 1993 από τη δισκογραφική Graffiti. Πρόκειται για ένα βήμα ακόμη πιο πέρα από την ηλεκτρονική μουσική και πιο κοντά στην ατμοσφαιρική και ακουστική new age/instrumental με μεγαλειώδη προοπτική. Σκεφτείτε πως το κομμάτι "The Crystal Sight" παίρνει το χώρο ολόκληρης της πρώτης πλευράς με σχεδόν είκοσι λεπτά διάρκεια και με τουλάχιστον τέσσερις διαφορετικές αλλαγές θέματος. Αν μη τι άλλο, πρόκειται για ένα ενδιαφέρον εγχείρημα, ενώ η δεύτερη πλευρά αποτελείται από εξίσου ενδιαφέροντα και ποικίλα ακούσματα όπως είναι το "Gordian Knot", κατά τη γνώμη μας το αποκορύφωμα του "Datura". Καλή ακρόαση, είμαστε σίγουροι πως πολλοί θα ανυπομονείτε να το ακούσετε.

ENG: As promised several months ago, we've prepared the second album by Thanasis Zlatanos entitled "Datura". The album was released in 1993 through the Graffiti label. Its sound is a step further away from electronic music and at the same time a step closer to atmospheric and acoustic new age/instrumental with grand perspective. Have in mind that the song "The Crystal Sight" is almost twenty minutes long featuring at least four different themes. Overall, "Datura" is a bold attempt and the second side proves to be as interesting and diversive as the first, namely in "Gordian Knot" which in our opinion is the highlight of the album. Enjoy this one, especially those who have been expecting it for quite some time.
